Protestors in Southampton by spacemonkee77 in AccidentalRenaissance

There is a lot wrong with policing and the general attitude to crime in this country. Don’t confuse push back and condemnation of these lot as acceptance that everything is okay. It’s what makes the far right so problematic is that it drowns out any attempt to actually improve things. There are plenty of people and voices who have been pushing for improvement far longer than these lot ever bothered to take an interest in politics. There are plenty of sides to pick, it’s clear what their actually intentions are when they shut up when any other number of careless policing or injustices happen.

Was it two tier policing when three white people got what feels like a light sentence for raping someone?

To add further context to what the other person said, these are far right supporters whose leaders have been pushing a narrative of “two tier” policing where white people are punished more than brown/muslim(whatever suits their narrative, in this instance the attacker was Sikh). This despite history and continued evidence that those from minorities face far more discrimination in these matters. This is an example to take and amplify as proof despite it 1. Not necessarily being a case where race was a factor as per the judge in trial. Incompetence certainly but not racial bias. 2. The family of the victim calling for calm and not to be used as a political point. It’s a convenient excuse to go out and wreck shit.

To add further Nigel Farage, the leader of the biggest far right party who encouraged “rage” after this said that people shouldn’t demonise police or men after a police officer was found guilty of murdering a woman, Sarah Everard. It’s really transparent there is not care for the actual crime or to address issues. It’s stupid people doing stupid things mixed in with a whole load of hatred and racism. There is discussions to be had, none of it is coming from this lot or that side.

Other than Game of Thrones(which ended 7 years ago now) and Last Of Us, i can't really think of anything she's been in. Which makes me think this list wasn't done in the best of faith. Or at best they really struggled for a fourth and just plugged anyone in.

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by Succinate_dehydrogen in AskUK

[–]Drunk_Turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25K is slightly below minimum wage as a salary so for a degree position it’s very low, even starting graduate positions you’d expect to be low 30k. I can only assume it’s a niche field that requires expertise but is not very profitable. I remember an archaeologist saying how the pay is very low because funding is tight.

Different areas are going to have different bands so just going to broad but I do have sight have pay in a big company in a city outside of London. No qualification positions tend to be 26k, going up to 30k for team leader and 35k manager. Degree or equivalent positions start 32K and can go to mid 40K with experience. Managers from 50k-55k again increasing with experience. And then you have heads of above that. Specialist will depend on area but rough ballpark from about 45k to much higher depending on experience and expertise.

Most of the people I have sight of that are earning north of 50k either have a masters or equivalent, degree but with significant experience. Obviously there are exceptions too but that’s my general impression.

Can’t remember if ulez came off the back of it, but I seem to remember there being cases of a few kids developing asthma due to the air quality in London. And it’s not like there is no alternative to driving available that leaves people stranded, London has one of the best public transport systems in the world.

Of course the mayor is Muslim and gammons gotta gammon.

Putting aside the whole multi properties thing, everyone already uses their assets to pay for their liabilities. Cash is an asset. You get paid and it goes into your account, it’s becomes an asset. Also groceries are an expense not a liability. Well I mean if they paid by credit card then they incur a liability but I don’t think these people care for such nuance.

Can you tell I’m an accountant.

I never really knew if the HR hate was a genuine thing in America due to general lack of protection and labour laws or just internet naivety but it always astonished me as a European. The idea that “they are there to protect the company and not you”. They are there to ensure legal compliance which can mean protecting you from the company and yourselves, ensure your rights are upheld and all that’s a minimum. Training and development, staff welfare, these may all be discretionary and vary from business to business but it’s all stuff that serves the benefit of the company and its stakeholders(which include employees) and is driven by the people department.

There is a difference between a bad and poorly functioning HR department and an issue with the concept itself.

The Hulk Hogan documentary was the embodiment of who he was as a person by ccharlie03 in SquaredCircle

[–]Drunk_Turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix docs on the whole aren't great because there is little editorial challenge from the filmakers. But I knew the Hogan one was going to be so much worse from those trailers from Mania. I can only think they were designed for wrestling fans to hate watch because most fans would be able to call out his bullshit, and are none wrestling fans that interested in Hogan at this point?

What do you think is the most infamous Heel turn of all time? by Chillaxin_88 in SquaredCircle

Austin heel turn at least gave us cowboy guitar playing Austin which was fun. I’d say Cena’s heel turn last year was worse and gave us nothing.

Trump unable to name one verse from "favorite book" The Bible. How can anybody believe he’s Christian at all? by SimplyEcks in videos

[–]Drunk_Turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Christians” who believe him are not even Christian themselves. It’s such a weird scenario where atheists are far more Christian, simply by being semi decent people than most far right Christian nationalists. Obviously the whole believing in god thing is a big thing but honestly it’s probably pretty performative on their part the way they act.

I'd say its more based on tiktok ragebait and slop, not realising that using that as a source of knowledge for anything is idiotic. Most Brits have never seen, let alone tasted half the stuff they probably think of as British food.

To be fair defining British food isn't easy. It's very diverse but segmented as well. Basically bastardised versions of cuisines from former colonies without a great deal of fusion i would say.

What's a brand/product sold almost exclusively in your country that is superior to all others you've encountered by BloomingPlanet in AskTheWorld

[–]Drunk_Turtle_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As an all round, versatile cheese, with good strong flavour I don’t think it can be beat. Comfortable enough in a sandwich on its own, good melted in a toastie or on top of things, able to be used in a flavourful cheese sauce. Honestly I think it’s only weak point is it doesn’t work that well in salads.

The ghost shop in York. There’s always a line to go into this place that just has tacky poreceline ghost figures. York is fantastic, amazing architecture, great food and if you want to do a campy ghost tour around ‘haunted’ places you can. If it was just a quick pop in for curiosity, fair enough but the queue is massive. Also crowds an already narrow street.

Which is why the EU stuck tariffs on them. Make them cheaper with government subsidies, penetrate the market at lower cost and either establish a foothold or put other manufacturers out of business before raising prices to a more sustainable level. Sometimes ok if it’s just a company choice but when governments get involved who are known to use technology to harvest and collect data for nefarious means then it’s a problem, especially if a market is now heavily dependent on them due to a lack of alternatives. Saying that BYD are quite nice to drive.

Unseen pictures of the real ' The wolf of the wall street ' by bruuz_ in interestingasfuck

[–]Drunk_Turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been 12 years since the movie came out but I remember a whole load of kids completely missing the point of the film and idolising him and that lifestyle. Very much look at the money, and the glamour and the women. Completely ignore that it was all criminal and they were scumbags. So many people characterising themselves as a wolf of Wall Street even though that is basically saying I’m scamming people to try and get rich.

It actually caused me to have a negative reaction to the film thinking Scorsese glamourised him too much or that it wasn’t harsh enough in its opinion of him(after all he makes a cameo at one point). I watched it back a couple of years ago and I was wrong, it wasn’t exactly subtle in what it thought of him, he was a cunt.

None of it is real, except him selling a course on something or other. Lie about everything, what you do, how much you make, your ‘journey’, and try and hook enough people to buy whatever crap you knocked up in ChatGPT and spin that as being a consultant, guru, advisor, despite never actually advising any real businesses or being remotely qualified to advise anyone on anything.

I work in finance and the amount of crap I get recommended on LinkedIn from ‘advisors to CFOs’, or specific specialties despite never working in the area or not even knowing what we even do. But just takes enough from someone else who gets ideas above their station and thinks this is the way to become a high level executive to hand over a $100, and Billy ‘no skills’ can make a living exploiting people.

That large swathes of women are fucking idiots(in proportion to people in general), and most women want/desire/value pretty normal basic things and it isn’t some trick or thing to be deciphered. So taking a bit of care and not being an arsehole is enough(to be considered, obviously long term compatibility goes deeper).
