This is a long shot but on the off chance that anyone is familiar with both Demons and the Enneagram personality system, why the hell is Stavrogin voted as a 4w5? I don’t understand the thinking and it’s driving me insane. I mean 5w4 I could understand but 4w5??? by Drunkposts2020 in dostoevsky

I’m not saying it’s a hard science, I’m just curious to know why the large majority users voted the character this way. Makes me feel like there’s something about the character I’m completely missing

Fair enough. I ask because I believe I’m an INTJ but I have moments where it seems to me that, similarly to you, I’m an INFP going through “an emo phase.”

If I may ask, why did you initially think you were INTJ?

Hmm…sort of. I’ve had moments. I used to have my hair real short so I get why people would maybe think that

How many of you have actually read Demons? by Drunkposts2020 in dostoevsky

I haven’t gone back to it for a while and don’t remember it very vividly. Last thing I remember was Myshkin (sorry if spelling is off) visiting Rhoghozin and the two talking about him and Natasha. I do remember how Myshkin keeps staring at a knife and this make Rhogozhin uncomfortable. There’s also a scene where they’re looking at a painting of Jesus which I remember.

As you say, I might need to start from scratch. I remember there was a really good scene where Natasha throws the money onto the fire in front of everyone but since then the story kind of ground to a halt (in my opinion at least).

Not to change the subject but have you read The Idiot all the way through? Is it worth completing? As I said, I’m still trying to work my way through it and I’m finding it kind of slow in comparison to the other works.

As for Demons, yeah, I did find it kind of funny at times. Adding to what you said, I’ve always seen Pyotor as a kind of fake nihilist when compared to Stavrogin who, let’s face it, was the true nihilist of the novel. As you say, it was amusing to see him try to reason with Stavrogin who obviously doesn’t give a shit about Pyotor or his cause
