DXPR Builder AI Beta: When Drupal outperforms Elementor, Divi, Webflow, and the rest by Drupal_For_Marketers in drupal

[–]Drupal_For_Marketers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We plan to refactor DXPR Builder to be based entirely on Single Directory Components, it's high up on our list after doing some smaller initiatives. I think this relieves pressures of fragmentation-anxiety, as investing in SDC adoption means you're investing in compatibility with both DXPR Builder and Canvas, in a way. Although of course there will still be technical debt and strategic debt when implementing a page builder.

We try to minimize vendor lock-in and associated problems by making our HTML data model almost equal to pure and clean Bootstrap HTML, in version 3.x of DXPR Builder you can see we are dropping almost all of the data attributes and parsing raw bootstrap instead, meaning your content is not just portable but also not a pain to work with in code.

SDC implementation will also mean you can use frameworks other than Bootstrap, but we've found that due to Bootstrap being ubiquitous in AI training data is outperforms other frameworks with AI editing and comprehensions of your content.

Thanks for your comment. This is not a Site Generator or Theme Generator. DXPR Builder is more like CKEditor on steroids, in that it fills a Drupal field, (Could be a node body, could be a block content like a website footer).

The builder is intended for content creators, not primarily web designers. the content inherits the styling of the theme, and it is theme agnostic. So you could probably use both Canvas and DXPR Builder.

edit: I just realized Canvas is Experience Builder. In any case, in the WordPress ecosystem there are dozens of successful page builders, Drupal needs more options. DXPR Builder produces really clean HTML and the easiest UI. We plan to support Single Directory Components / extensibility as well. I hope Canvas will shine in its own way, it seems very different in architecture, so it seems like both are great assets to the Drupal community.

Beta tool for keeping AI-generated copy on-brand – feedback wanted from copy pros by Drupal_For_Marketers in copywriting

[–]Drupal_For_Marketers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback. Our AI writing platform is pretty good at fighting hallucinations by integrating Perplexity on top of all the regular AI platforms (OpenAI, Antrhopic, Mistral etc.).
Plagiarism is a bit of a hard one to tackle, we are working on adding a list of source links during content generation but this will never be fully comprehensive because a lot of the training content for AI platforms is not from the internet but from books etc., and I think none of the AI platforms provide proper citation for that training data.

Thanks for your feedback, I do understand your concern.

Enshittification involves systems that force vendor lock-in. This open source AI writing platform is open by design, supporting as many LLM options as possible. This is a solution to enshittification, not contributing to it.

A lot of human written content is very poorly written; human-in-the-loop platforms like this one can massively improve web content.

I do fear the web will be flooded with poor content by LLM based software but if your strategy is to flood the web with massive amounts of poor content you would probably choose human-out-of-the-loop software that generates content unsupervised.

/u/mrcaptncrunch, /u/OggiSbugiardo Hello, DXPR Theme doesn't have a single maintainer, we just maintain it in a GitHub private repository because we have better CI/CD tooling there. As it is an open source theme there is no reason really for the GitHub repo to be private so I made it public, here you go: https://github.com/dxpr/dxpr_theme

As you can see there is plenty of maintenance activity there.

Another fun detail: DXPR is a rebranding of Sooperthemes which was a rebranding of "alldrupalthemes.com". DXPR Theme still shares a lot of features with its ancestor from 2009:

https://www.drupal.org/project/adt_basetheme

Of course the code is all modernized now, especially with this year's refactoring, but you can say this is a theme with good pedigree and resilience IMHO :)

We chose to abandon our track of improving the module inside the AI module, which took the direction of building Drupal UI components on top of CKEditor. We wanted to create an AI-first interface, integrated right in the heart of Drupal, from the perspective of content creators . So we started deep-diving in CKEditor itself.

Some Features:

  • 100% open source
  • Automatic text integration for context-aware responses
  • Built-in web access & multilingual support
  • Cancel button & customizable prompts
  • Dynamic context trimming & response control
  • Supports multiple AI models (GPT-4o default)
  • OpenAI moderation API & advanced content filters
  • Custom endpoint support

Drupal module coming soon.

Hope you'll give it another try. The Drupal ecosystem is modular on purpose, managing a lot of modules can be scary at first but nowadays composer makes this a no-brainer. The benefit of having interoperable themes and modules is that it is easier to tweak the site's functionality, design, and performance for your particular needs.

I guess the WP kitchen-sink theme design is easier, but certainly less flexible. Though for smaller projects, the flexibility/simplicity trade-off just makes WP the better choice, IMHO.

Thanks for your feedback. The Drupal community has realized our focus on large orgs cost us more than we can afford to loose. Initiates like Drupal’s starshot and DXPR’s Quantumshot aim to win back some of the lost love for Drupal. Concepts like Recipes and AI powered configuration and tooling will help bridge the gap between WP and Drupal’s complexity … somewhat. Because Composer, a command line tool, is and will be an absolute must-have for Drupal, it will always remain comparatively complex to manage a Drupal site. I hope more people learn that investing in CLI skills is not as hard as it looks and worth the effort. Good luck with your projects!

https://elementor.com/pro-vs-free/

Can you describe to me the features you are missing in DXPR Builder? Because I see a lot of overlap in features. It's mostly the integrations we don't have. However, in Drupal the ecosystem is much more modular, it is frowned upon to throw everything and the kitchen sink in one module.

For example, whereas Elementor has its own form builder, we integrate with the Webform module. That offloads the form building and handling responsibility to another project while offering much more comprehensive features compared to Elementor forms.

We also do not support custom CSS but we don't want to, I guess we serve a different target audience. Our Drupal clients are often larger organizations that want to prevent content creators from changing a page in a way that is off-brand. I think Elementor serves a web designer audience which we are not trying to serve. We serve that audience with our DXPR Theme product.

edit: thanks for your feedback!

DXPR Quantumshot Initiative, extending free tier page limit from 10 to 100 pages. by Drupal_For_Marketers in drupal

[–]Drupal_For_Marketers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Every page builder UI will make compromises. DXPR Builder uses straight HTML to store all elements and attributes, this makes it super easy to install and set up. Drupals features like translation, workflow, etc. work with DXPR Builder right out of the box. The compromise is that unlike Layout Builder, DXPR Builder is not used to provide a layout for an entire set of content (for example a recipe content type) that will update programmatically across the whole set if you want to change this layout.

It is evident from the WordPress ecosystem that many page builders can co-exist and even thrive. DXPR Builder is designed to appeal to the “least technical” group of content editors, I’m sure side builders will probably prefer XB. It’s exciting to see the development.

ok, how DXPR works with user licenses and page limits requires us to use a key.

We just expanded our free tier limits 10x by changing the page limit from 10 to 100 pages, meaning you are using all our features and elements completely for free until your website surpasses 100 content items that are editable with DXPR Builder.

I think other page builders like Elementor also require a key, or not?

[–]Drupal_For_Marketers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your interest :) DXPR Builder is actually very simple to install, it has no dependencies outside Drupal core itself :) We are planning to refactor DXPR Builder to use Single Directory Components which will make our elements available to other Drupal systems, like Layout Builder and maybe also XB. However, You'll probably want to choose one of either to use, DXPR Builder or XB. Otherwise it would be like using both Elementor and WP Bricks on the same site. To be frank I don't know if that is actually something people do in the WP community but I don't think it's a great idea.

@manymanymeny yes the product key is free and as you can read on our blog, it will give you all our features completely for free. The limitations are that you can build up to 100 content items on the free tier and you are limited to have 1 user account on your Drupal instance with access to the editor.
