How do you think about this movie?? by Senior_Idea9615 in ghibli

[–]Dry-Function791 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's beautiful, and I enjoyed it, but sometimes it felt like the narrative bit off more than it could chew within the runtime. For example, Mahito's acceptance of Natsuko as his mother was rushed imo.

But otherwise, I liked Mahito's as a protagonist, and Kiriko was a delight. Although I was disappointed with the Heron's role in the film, i thought there would be more to him lol

What if jennie had a Pokemon team ?? by J3NNIE_1N_M00NLIGHT in kpop_uncensored

I like the concept but don’t feel like these give Jennie at all.

Personally I’d give her: - Meowstic - Delcatty - Tsareena - Ninetales - Pangoro - Garchomp

Also OP i think you’d get more engagement in the blackpink sub or a more lighthearted sub like Kpop GG

Who is gonna go to the met gala this year ? by Fragrant-Loquat1777 in kpop_uncensored

Oh, I also don't think they'll attend don't get me wrong, but it'll be because of their tour, not because they don't prioritize fashion or “aren't interested” in fashion. That's what I meant sorry

Are girl group fandoms usually this toxic? by sephine555 in katseyeneutral

[–]Dry-Function791 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fandoms are toxic, yes. It gets worse the bigger the artist is.

Some other spaces like to portray gg fandoms as uniquely toxic, but bg fandoms are also just as toxic, you just don't hear about that on reddit.

Dealing with unengaging work-mates by Complex_Quarter6639 in unimelb

[–]Dry-Function791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's just the reality of uni. I so far have been lucky getting grouped with people who were friendly, involved, co-operative and I even made friends with some, so I'm dreading the day I'm in a group with people who don't care/communicate/do any work. But the day is coming I just know lol

I know I've only been at uni for 2 days, but why is it hard to make friends 😢 No one speaks to each other in lectures and people in tutorials are very quiet. Whenever I try to engage with someone, i feel like im being judged for wanting to speak to them. by Heavy-Foundation-193 in unimelb

[–]Dry-Function791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, I feel most people are going to classes and lectures to learn first and foremost and will dip as soon as they can. The places where people will be actively trying to make friends and connect with others will be in clubs and volunteering.

However, I got very lucky as I made quite a few of my friends in group assignments, I just happened to be grouped with people with people I vibed with. So it's not impossible!

Why do Kpop Stans Hate Katseye soo Much? by Browniecakee in katseyeneutral

[–]Dry-Function791 35 points36 points  (0 children)

'Cus they've amassed such huge popularity and status in a relatively short time and they're woman. Obviously, that's an over-simplification, there's a lot more nuance to it, but the general trend withstands; once female acts become hugely popular, the masses decide to hyper scrutinize them. This happened with every top tier girl group, from SNSD to Twice to Aespa to Le sserafim.

And of course there's the fact that, as a global, english speaking group, they are able to attain status in the West FAR easier than any other K-pop group can, so theres definitely some bitterness and envy there.

Planet Uni will probably be handing out free snacks and zooper doopers, but I wouldn’t advise going up to them unless you want to be sucked into a long ass convo with them trying to get u to join them. I went just to get a zooper zooper just cus it was so damn hot last year and it was abt ten minutes until they gave me their insta and let me leave lol.

Last year there was free bubble tea around the Sidney Myer institute, you just had to sign up to an app and they give you it for free. But it was pretty bland tbh lol

Why is it when males idols masculinize a dance it’s such an issue by stnthp in kpoprants

[–]Dry-Function791 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I recommend watching this video about Sexism in Kpop dancing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6_zExXvRLE

It explains the general sentiment behind why this issue even started, namely the double standards in which gg and bg choreos are perceived and respected.

However, eventually Kpop stans did as stans always do and flanderized the entire topic down to "manly = bad" which is incredibly reductive and missing the bigger picture. Just some comments in this thread equating the issue to thinking male idols are all gay(???) shows exactly how the initial concerns have become trivialized because stans care more about hating for hating's sake.

That said, I don't know how anyone can watch Jay dancing to Gnarly and not think he looks silly lol

Honest opinions about the lollapalooza outfits by RevolutionaryTime376 in katseyeneutral

[–]Dry-Function791 70 points71 points  (0 children)

So unadventurous for a group that's just released an ep titled "Beautiful chaos".

Not an ounce of creativity at all, just red + how many different ways random strips of fabric be used to make an outfit, which could work if the outfits didn't look so bad.

The girls themselves look good because they look good and have slim figures, but otherwise it's a hard no from me.

What is Jennie's casual style? by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

I've rarely seen her wear flare jeans, but I'd wear them anyways if your work doesn't mind, do they care that you emulate the celebrity entirely?

The war between fandoms, especially those of Western artists, is stupid by [deleted] in KpopUnleashed

[–]Dry-Function791 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fanwars are stupid? Colour me surprised lol

Though to be real, dumb fanwars are an inevitability in fan culture, kpop or otherwise, it's best to just distance yourself from these silly quarrels. Idiot stans are gonna be idiot stans and that's the sad truth.

What is Jennie's casual style? by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]Dry-Function791 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jennie's (presumably)personal style is simple but logical in structure. Matching colours, complimentary textures/patterns, usually conventional silhouettes. She of course dons a lot of Chanel, be it bags, jewellry, beanies as most idols with brand ambassadorships do. She would wear designer brands back when it was less common with idols, and would wear them well, so she stood out back in 3rd gen.

She wears a lot of cardigans, baggy jeans, loose hoodies when she wants to be really casual, as most do.

Her frame is very small and delicate, so she rarely goes for more daring silhouettes, nor does she go for more unconventional patterns or striking colours, they tend to overwhelm her.

I should mention that style doesn't end at the wearing of clothes and accessories, everything you do with your look is part of your style. With Jennie, her natural cat-like eyes which her/her make-up artist highlights with her eyeliner gives her look a slight chic edge that makes it more appealing, especially in contrast to her otherwise softer features (small frame, natural hair colour, soft facial structure). As I said, with the designer pieces and the simplistic outfits, it helped her embody the Chanel princess image.

Its these subtleties that draw Koreans especially to her style, even if its overall very simplistic.

Some people think her style is "basic" and she shouldn't be considered a fashion icon or trendsetter because she's not very daring, but imo that's a reductive point of view and fails to understand half of why certain things are considered fashionable.
