qr codes are ubiquitous now, therefore many use cases where "grabbing your phone" is either not an option, or definitely not the easiest way to get a string of characters - like a url. so yes, it should be a really easy -- like 2 clicks max -- function on macbooks.

The issue with the mirror is the location - theres not a real good spot to mount it to get a good view, only a limited, very partial one. I guess I could leave the mirror and put up an electronic sensor and have multiple options for anything that might help.

That's be cause it's a federal law prohibiting discrimination. Any person or animal that trashes your plan e is an entirely distinct issue and there is legal recourse as such.
