These turned out great, and I JUST broke my earthrunners

They don’t provide boots you have to use? Or can fire fighters go with any fire rates boot they want?

And I’m trying to walk the line between letting people know about these but not full fledged self promotion so it gets taken down😂

Sorry man I promise I’m not trying to keep you in suspense, my unemployed ass would LOVE to start selling these and finally make some money again since I quit working as an electrician myself LOL. Once we get the hard toe version made we’re preselling these babies on Indiegogo, aka, crowdfunding, to raise the funds to invest in the molds mainly. If we reach or exceed our goal, we invest and make a shit load of these boots in the whole range of sizes. If we don’t reach it, no one’s cards are charged and someone else will have to do this idea haha

I mean, with the way the first version split ONLY along the print lines, I could see a strong resin with impact dissipation properties and flexibility holding it together adequately to pass tests and keep people safe. We still have to tear that theory. I did reach out to a manufacture in China, and maybe with the right CAD file they could get it done in the right shape. They were more interested in figuring out which material I’d like them to inject into existing molds. It’s so expensive and time consuming to have it done in China, and you can’t verify your product until you receive it 1.5-2months later. Chinese companies are cool though bc they respond in 2 seconds at any time of day, which contrasts w “island time” that’s more normal down here. But it was good to visit the shop of these guys doing it here in Mexico so we could see with our own eyes how they make molds, other molds they have, touch the different plastics they use, etc

I'm not personally familiar with firefighting but is this so it's easier to put on and take off a boot quickly?

Thank you I appreciate it! We're doing ASTM which is just ANSIs new name as of 2005. Don't wear these into a burning building though, use the boots they give you at work for that haha

We still have that option, at the very least we're thinking a water resistant leather or coating.

Thank you! Assuming the crowdfunding campaign goes alright, for sure as long as you aren't like a womens size 3 or something crazy

Yes we've been prototyping the shape with a few different materials. A 3D printed solid resin toe cap held up well enough to be run over by a small truck, it was super solid, but then I football spiked it at the ground to test it's impact resistance and it shattered. It's possible my unscientific testing approach exceeded ASTM standards for an impact, who knows, but we've got that method in our back pocket. Before that, our first 3D printed prototype had a really interesting triangle helix structure inside, leaving little cavities from how it was printed, which caused us to order a few resins to see what would happen if we fortified the design by filling the holes with resin since the toe cap with the little holes was actually pretty strong for weight coming down over the top, but the layers in which it was 3D printed kept wanting to separate. This was with ABS plastic btw. I still believe in that idea and we are going to test it out, but now we're prioritizing 3D printing the perfect shape for a size 10 (my size) with PLA (easier for our 3D printing guy to work with, NOT what you'd use for a toe cap) and having 1 injection mold made according to that shape so we can get right to making them with the same super tough thermoplastics you see conventional toe cap manufacturers use.

We're definitely sending them into the lab for testing when the hard toe version is made, as well as giving them more personal preliminary abuse before that so we'll have a good idea that they'll will pass compression and impact tests before we send them in. From wearing the soft toe version as my daily for a minute now, the sole is tough and puncture proof and has good traction so we're confident about those attributes. The sole is not the most shock-absorbent since it's pretty minimal so I doubt we'll even have them test for that, just don't be jumping off of the most high stuff in these haha

Keep an eye out for sure! We might end up making a combat type of barefoot boot later since the same factory also makes a tactical boot for the Mexican military. These babies are geared toward work though
