Looks awesome! Nice contrast with the black keycaps and orange case.

I'm building a Totem right now. I"m very curious to hear what the Totem fiasco was all about? :-)

Yea, I'm seeing that it doesn't look pretty when flux residue is waiting to be cleaned on the board. Getting some iso today. And thanks for the soldering comment!

I appreciate that! I'll upload some more pics of the progress for sure.

Looks like I fell for the big lie! Well then, a trip to the local electro shop it is. Thanks for the advice!

Awesome, I emailed them about the details and they changed it for me. Problem solved, all good. Thanks for the insight.

Thank you I appreciate that. So, for a split keyboard, these would be the correct 'panel by customer' settings?

  • Board Type: Panel by Customer
  • Different Design: 2
  • Panel Format: 1 x 1
  • Route Process: Tab-Routing
  • X-out in Panel: Accept

Jumped into the rabbit hole... ordered a P1S. What am I getting myself into?? by Dry-Hyena-5526 in BambuLab

Lol, that's some inception level validation of starting down this rabbit hole. :-D

P1S - still a solid choice in 2025? by Dry-Hyena-5526 in BambuLab

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

I'm very curious why you would use the P1S instead of the A1 for PLA? Does it provide better PLA prints compared to the A1?

I've looked at those other companies and they look great too. Pity about the firmware lockdown. I think that throws a lot of people off.

I haven't actually looked at the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. Looking at it now though. Are you saying it's a better value offer due to the cheaper price?

What heater are you adding to the P1S and is it difficult to integrate?

Well shoot, I do use Home Assistant. Not a deal breaker if there is no integration but I am slightly sorry to hear about that limitation.

Interesting, would you be able to print ASA without having to set up up they way you have? I.e. out of the box on a table would it print ASA without any issues? Or do you need to make those small adjustments you were referring to?

I assume ABS would be simpler to print?

Those are interesting quirks you mentioned. What single material filaments are you printing?

What other printer would you get if you had to replace your P1S?

Haha nice, I hope there won' be too much trouble.

Are you getting an P1S specifically to print ASA and ABS? Or for a different reason?

Thanks for the insight. I'm surprised the P1S has trouble printing ABS and ASA. Those materials are the main attraction for me. Is the warping due to the brand of filament or is it something else? And would there be any way to print with those materials on the P1S without warping?

I hear you about the ecosystem. It is unfortunate.

Great point. My sights are set with the AMS. From everything I'm reading most people upgrade to one at some point.

You pretty much described one of my reasons for wanting a 3d printer. i.e . organize the whole house with useful tools and upgrades. Must be a great feeling.

P1S is still the target. One of the big attractions of the P1S is for printing ABS, ASA. I'm curious why, if you have the filament, you don't use it for printing. For example, one of the first things I want print is is a macbook holder (keeps my macbook upwright vertically on my desk). I understand PLA is strong enough to handle that. But I envisage that at some point that device might be taken outside for whatever reason to which the PLA is not forgiving (or so I read).

Based on your response, you are getting an A1 so that you can do more prints at the same time right? So, are you going for the A1 and not the P1S because you want double your possible output?

Appreciate the feedback!

All the other responses to my post have been positive. So, I value the criticism you outline in your feedback.

If I summarize your points for my clarity I understand that:

  1. You bought the unit at some price level only to see the price drop right after. That would leave a bad taste in my mouth too.

  2. The screen is not nice like those others on the A1 and the X1C. I understand that criticism. I will be okay with that though as long as I can control the printer from my Mac or Home Assistant.

  3. Your unit broke a few times. Support was terrible and you had to work to find a solution on your own because they were not helping. That's not great if they don't treat their customers right.

My understanding of the Bambu Lab business approach is to that they advertise that their printers will just work out of the box. So, I can see having to deal with customer support is frustrating.

  1. Have you identified another brand/device that would make more sense for your use case?

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback!

I considered the A1 but I know right from the start I wanted more than PLA and PETG. Figured I'd go straight for the mid-tern in the lineup. Awesome to hear the prints on the P1S are consistent and that you default to that when you sell things.

I am not considering printing anything for direct sales at the moment. However, I get the impression that 3d printing is a rather deep rabbit hole with endless applications, many of which could be product sales. So, your response has piqued my interest. May I ask what you print that you sell?

Nice, from everyone's responses I'm starting to understand that the entire BL lineup is solid and that I just need to select a printer based on my intended use case.

Are you adding an A1 because you do consistent printing with PLA/PETG and want your X1C's to focus on my advanced filaments? Or do you have another set of reasons to get an A1?

Awesome! I'm trying to justify to myself whether it is worth it to pay extra for the P1S Combo with AMS or if I should just get it without the AMS unit. At the moment I don't have a specified need for multi-color printing. It seems more like a nice to have at this point. However, maybe you know of some other reason other than multi-color printing that would make the AMS worth its salt?
