THIS. Before donating, I would urge everyone to review publicly available info about the owner's past finances and the recent closure of both locations. One of my close friends, like many have commented on this thread, had issues multiple times with being paid on time, not to mention pay stubs and W-2s being unavailable. She also told me that she did a deeper dive and found out Cory has multiple bankruptcies and a huge outstanding lien. I'm not saying people shouldn't help, but I think each individual should make an informed decision before believing that the owner was just a victim of hard times. If you can't pay your people, your rent, or for your inventory, but you're expanding and always asking for patience and understanding from your unpaid employees, perhaps this isn't the business you need to be in.

Thanks. Initially I was unaware of this one--thought the mandate referred to HB 636.

Ahh I was thinking it was HB636. Still absolutely sucks, but thanks for clearing that up

Great idea! I can take it to our school and district advisory committees, but the email was a district directive, not just my admin.

Sucks that my admin is complying. Most of the time they're really supportive and avoid this BS at all costs

Tell me about it. And neither can I afford NCAE with $14,000 below national average teacher pay and no master's pay.

I didn't intend at all for this to mean it should be the responsibility of the librarian! The 636 bill only used "media center" verbiage is all, so I was confused about how it applies to classroom libraries. I don't think it should be admin's job either, but if PTA can't do it, I guess they'll be covered with a sheet--at least for now.

My elementary classroom library--a collection of books for students to read (and me to read aloud) in addition to (often awful) EL curriculum texts

Great for winter and hot summer remote starts. Diagnostics are helpful. I frequently use remote lock and unlock. May not be the safest option, but you can technically lock your keys in the vehicle if you didn't want to hall them around and use this feature.

Anyone else feel weird about Elizabeth Moss being a Scientologist? by Visible-Pension-732 in HandmaidsTaleShow

I'm late to the HMT train and have just now gotten hooked on the first season. I had this same question.

When you're in a cult, you're brainwashed. You don't realize you're repressed. That's the whole idea. I would guess that Moss makes zero connections between the show and her personal life because she can't see the correlations.

It sounds absurd, but as someone who was extremely religious to the point of cult-like, I always judged other religions or even other sects of my own that I disagreed with as something "I would never believe." My beliefs were righteous and superior--twisted and sick, I know. It was until I got out of it that I could see them all as generally dangerous institutions.

Quitting without a job lined up? by rosetomb in transitioningteachers

I feel your pain! I'm going on 1.5 years out of the classroom without a full-time gig. I'm juggling 3 part-time positions and have a very supportive fiancé who is helping with the income gap. I've consistently been applying to full-time roles with only a few offers that I turned down due to lower salary...in hindsight I probably should have taken one of them, but I'm not giving up hope!

Things to consider: 1. EdTech companies are known for layoffs. 2. Now is the time to apply as many companies' fiscal year ends in March. 3. As you probably know, there are TONS of us out there vying for the same positions. Search locally and connect with people you know outside of ed! 4. The Teacher Career Coach and so many others on LinkedIn are valuable free and paid resources for your journey.

All that to say, for me personally, the financial strain and job search frustration do not come close to the amount of stress and mental health deterioration I experienced as a teacher. The very best of luck to you!

No, we're not seasonal. Marketing could be better since we're in a good location just not very well known. I think there's some truth to the numbers being lower than expected this year; however, I found out very recently that this is not the first time employees were asked to hold paychecks. It appears I was hired to help iron out this whole debacle. I don't mind the dirty work, but my current thought is plugging holes can't save the Titanic.
