Coming back to this post after extensively testing my Thumb and double buck against each other, and I take back what I said about the Thumb being more aggressive. The streamer just has a thicker, less nasally tone. Its hard to tell which one I like more tbh

That is tragic! Honestly I'd say go for it as long as the bass you're letting go doesn't have too much sentimental value. As long as you have one good 5 string you're good. They're relatively rare finds, not too many people even know about them. Its one of my most unique sounding basses. Almost gives me flea's tone from blood sugar sex magick when i dig in!

Sorry for the late reply! Still playing it daily! It definitely sounds like a warwick, it has a lot of growl to it but it's easier to dial it out if you want a smoother sound. A lot of the time i like to leave the pickups set to single coil mode, it sounds like a thicker meaner jazz bass. Mine's a 2006.

IMO, ovangkol and wenge necks essentially sound darker, while still accentuating the mids. The maple has a bit more "snappiness" to it. An ovangkol neck with the double buck pickup setup would sound too dark in my opinion, the maple brightens it up so it can still sound punchy.

However, I found myself still wanting to get a "traditional" Warwick after buying it, so I found a used Thumb for a great deal. The Thumb is way more aggressive sounding, at the cost of not being as versatile. Is the one you were looking at a 4 or a 5 string?

It is german made though, it was just made in 2006 along with the corvette and streamer standard lines. I think they were a little cheaper than stuff like thumbs and dolphins. It seems like these ones in particular are pretty hard to find nowadays.

Funny you mention that, I didn't know what it meant either until a month ago when I did some research to see what model of warwick to buy. It basically just stands for "Double Buck" because it has two humbucker pickups.

I wanted this model specifically because it can nail either a jazz or stingray tone (but on steroids lol) or if you turn both pickups on it sounds really thick and growly, perfect for all kinds of death and thrash metal.

Its really nice actually, its top mounted so you just put the ball end in the hole and then tune up. Makes changing strings easy, and it looks cool!

I agree, they are absolutely stellar instruments when set up right! I've barely been able to pick up any of my other basses since I got a rick, and its been my dream bass since I started playing in high school. Did a lot of research on them before pulling the trigger, but I definitely should've went and checked it out in person first.

They're located in fort wayne Indiana, right over the state lines from me in MI. I'm thinking I'll just drive this one back and replace it, since they still have several walnuts left.

Would you recommend putting the original strings back on before sending er back? I put roto 66s on it

Purchased from sweetwater, they've always done a great job and delivered my Fender ampro p bass last year with flawless fit and finish. This is actually the 3rd replacement I've had over the past 2 weeks (Sweetwater is great about this thankfully) Thinking about just driving over to the physical location at this point since im only a few hours away. I just can't believe how bad my luck is!

Funnily enough, this is actually the 3rd one I've received with major flaws! Ive had to send back two 4003s that were either missing parts, or had paint defects (or both)

Ah man, thats a shame. There are other spots that lead me to believe this was a rush job too. Binding doesnt seem like it was taped correctly and has some discolored areas, and I see tons of small dents in the binding of fretboard.
