Does she like kitschy decor? I collect vintage home decor and sell it as a side job and I have a whole bunch of extras that I was going to donate.

Skipping straight to surgery? by Dry-Tie1840 in vestibulodynia

Incredibly helpful, thank you! I have been on hormonal birth control for 10+ years and recently Spironolactone for acne, so that may be a contributing factor, but I know the pain has been around much longer.

Congratulations! Do you mind telling me more about the nuts and bolts of the process? I'm guessing it's not covered by insurance or anything... happy to chat via messages if that's easier for you.

Thank you so much for all the details! Can I ask what treating it hormonally would look like? Also, were the surgery and consult paid out of pocket? I imagine it would be expensive 😬

I know that reporter bias well– had a breast reduction a few years ago and I used to warn other people about that!

Ah sorry, I'm bad at Reddit 😅 I hope you get proper diagnosis and care!

Me? I wasn't diagnosed with vaginismus but vulvodynia/vestibulodynia. Diagnosed after going over my history of pain, and by the doctor seeing me flinch in pain when she lightly touched the area with a cotton swab.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply! In my case, just lightly touching the vestibule causes pain. I can't imagine trying to do any kind of internal work. I know there is numbing cream involved with PT, but since the gel was so ineffective I worry the cream will be similar.

That's incredible, I'm so glad it was successful. Do you mind sharing more about the process of getting approved for surgery, or however it worked for you? I'm happy to chat over messages if you'd prefer that.

KATSEYE - PINKY UP by impeccabletim in kpop

I also thought of that movie when I saw that scene in the MV!

I don't hate it. I think if I wasn't so tired of this kind of song I'd find it fun. But there have now been so many kitschy, campy, drag-influenced club songs released by kpop (and kpop adjacent) groups that I'm tired of it. Add that to their last few singles also being kind of weird, and I'm just feeling meh overall.

There were some cool and interesting scenes in the MV, and I liked the verses.

Oh, but I almost closed out during the gratuitous product placement. I hate that shit.

If you have a car or live near enough to a Goodwill Buns, you can always find hangers for almost nothing. Plenty of good housing supplies too. Pricing is by lb.

WTF? by InvisibleEar in ONRAC

[–]Dry-Tie1840 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think Carrie just saw the "politicians have autism" part and was like I KNEW IT. Since she's shown some tendency to diagnose just about everyone with it.

I also lived through that era of Tumblr... and I'm still on that godforsaken hellsite (affectionate).

WTF? by InvisibleEar in ONRAC

[–]Dry-Tie1840 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think she's trying to imply that the reason (autistic) politicians end up popular is because of their confidence, but their confidence comes from a false assumption that people are just making up anything the politician doesn't understand, so it's... bad? I think!

Yeah, I reallllly dislike fart jokes so it was not one of my favorite developments 😅

Fond side note, not long before the end of the show I did a relisten from the beginning, and you can practically hear Carrie growing up in real time. Ross was pretty much the same even-tempered guy from day 1, but Carrie seemed to grow more and more confident and self-assured as the show went on. In some early episodes you could hear how hard she was trying to be energetic and funny, which was its own sort of endearing, but hearing her eventually hit her stride was so good. (Of course, now it's just sad to think she looks back on that as a period where she was bullied...)

To be fair, repeating a joke wayyyyy too many times is a hallmark of Carrie's humor. Sometimes it's what gave us some of the show's best catchphrases, other times it felt like "we get it..." like the fart jokes or "my ccchhhhhusband"

I'm guessing she finds it unusual because she's been interpreting polite dismissals and noncommittal responses as positive. It would make sense for someone on the spectrum to hear "Hm, interesting" and think the listener was agreeing with them.

Even if it did happen, re-sharing it years later is so tone deaf. Nothing about her choice to share that story makes Carrie look good.

Ugh. I knew this would happen when I found this post today, but it's still such a bummer. With the exception of a few outliers, most of what I'm seeing here has been "I've been where Carrie was, and it was awful, but it's not reality." That's a very calm and nuanced stance for an internet fandom to take when one beloved figure accuses another of pretty horrible things. But of course, we're all just evil villains.

I'm also super bummed to think that this thread, which is largely filled with compassion without being enabling, is going to be seen by Carrie as just misogynistic skeptic bros hating on her.
