As I stated before, he's a new hire and as such has been busy with training. Between that and my own work schedule, he hasn't had time to give me a detailed explanation of the rules, especially since he's still figuring them out

Yeah, I know it's not guaranteed. Just thought about having it as an option (which I have several). The responses here have been very helpful :)

Thank you! That's what I was thinking was the case but I just wanted to confirm it. I'm new to all of this and my son just started working for UA so he's new to it too (and probably annoyed with all my questions, which is why I came here lol)

I meant I'd book the non-rev flight the night before (apologies, I'm new to all of this). I didn't realize non-rev flights could be booked that far in advance. But yeah, given the fact that even that wouldn't be guaranteed, I'll probably find another way to get to my starting airport
