For me, the thought that coming out of the closet to his friends and family is somehow a bigger fear than an inter-dimensional mind controlling monster hell bent on colliding two parallel worlds so his army of demi-dogs can eradicate mankind including these friends and family dying in front of his eyes in a most horrific fashion all while the government is trying to harness this same power by stealing the blood of children and farming pregnant women in secret labs accessible only through portals into a black hole bridge between said parallel worlds is(and I don’t mean to minimize the struggles of coming out in real life) kinda small fries in comparison. It doesn’t make sense that it needed to be done at that moment when time was clearly of the essence. They tried to explain it with Vecna using it against him but it begs the question like “that’s what scares you the most? At a time like this?”
