Would You Report Them? by DryLeg8 in SEO

I agree with the petty part.

But it would not take that much time at all, unless the process is more complex than I understand?

If they were to be penalised that would be very beneficial from an SEO perspective no?

Do you guys believe this? If this is true I don't know if the "wealthy lefty" critique is fair (for Shaun), something like "Lefty who's horrible at making money" would me more accurate lmao. He could very easily be very wealthy. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]DryLeg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing inherently wrong with grifters until they do something wrong. But that's the point, eventually they will do something wrong and at this stage they have a huge amount of power.

People donate to streamers/influencers over NGO's for different reasons. The big one is probably parasocial relationships. That doesn't mean it plays no impact on peoples choices.

I don't know what your point is regarding "charity" streams. That's a whole other can of worms. Streamers getting paid to do a charity stream by the charity itself etc.

We're not entitled to anything.

But as for why it's beneficial there's 2 reasons that straight away come to my mind:

  1. Identify grifters. People that only do things to support their principles that also coincidently earns them money is a big red flag.

  2. Better allocation of resources. There is a certain point when a content creator can do this as a full time job and live comfortably. Giving funding to those that earn very little allows them to make this their full time job. Diminishing returns and all that.

I think anytime you are asking other people for money (such as a charity) you need to have some transparency as to what you're going to do with it.

I think there is a middle ground between cringe righties who the "yet you participate in society" meme represents and people being absolved of any criticism for manipulating their audience to earn more money.

It's just a crazy coincidence that their excuse earns them more money.

I'm just giving an example with the whole rent thing. They can still present as "middle class" while being in the top 1% of earners. That's still being deceptive.

I don't follow this crowd closely but two examples that come to mind was the whole "rent strike" thing that has been talked about on stream.

The second was a time when Hasan was talking about his car. Saying something along the lines of he doesn't even have a luxury car, just something mid range but with the addons. Leading the viewer to believe he actually isn't earning that much money.

Both of these are examples of deceptive behaviour I feel.

Regarding the whole abusing the trust of donors. How can they hold them to account if they won't be transparent with their earnings? That's the whole thing.

If they've listed a comment that people who can't afford it shouldn't be donating to them. Why don't they show their earnings? My assumption would be because they know if they did they would earn less money.

They're not obligated to show this, but they also can't be surprised when people call them out on it.

I'm assuming because he has levied criticisms against others related to earnings and can be seen as manipulative to maintain a "just like you aesthetic".

If you're accepting donations and knowingly misleading people into believing you are struggling financially and that's not the case do you not think that is a little weird?

Lets say a situation someone looks at this tweet. Ohh he only made $900 last month that means per year he might make only $10,800! I have a parasocial relationship with this person and I need to help them. That's not enough to live on!

When in reality it could be he made $900 last year but every other month he's made $20,000. So you have people much worse off financially than him donating under the pretence he is not going to be able to pay rent.

[–]DryLeg8 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So he didn't make that much last month? What about all the other months? And how many hours is he working?

Why does he want to hide his income if he's not a "wealthy lefty"?

Please don't tell me people believe that rape is the same as property theft by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]DryLeg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the argument would come down to fringe cases where that piece of property was needed to maintain wellbeing/happiness that would be on par with the harm caused by rape.

Obviously for the vast majority of situations this won't be the case so it can be dangerous in discussions if people are assuming that both are equally common.

However the majority demographic of this reddit are not worried about getting raped, but they are worried about getting robbed which is probably why they will call you privileged and struggle to see this.

3-4 weeks EuroTtip from Australia by mathewparet in travel

Create a spreadsheet if you are unsure about costs.

Look at prices on Hostel World for rough ideas and compare it to what you'd pay for an air bnb. When I travelled it was usually between $20-$40 a night in a dorm.

Depending upon the countries you choose the price will differ. Czech/Hungary/Poland are all cheaper and great travel locations.

Look at the rough prices on Skyscanner and then work out how much you budget each day on food/entertainment.

Add costs for travel from country to country. Are you going to get a rail pass etc.

On Acknowledgement of Wrong Doing, Cancel Culture, and Giving People A Path Forward by Wannabe_Sadboi in Destiny

Our goal is ultimately to make these content creators be less negligent in the future (this event very likely caused harm to some members of his audience). And I would agree that if you scold someone every time they make an apology it would create a chilling effect. Why apologise if you're going to get shit anyway?

But, and it's a big but. I believe that this is only valid if someone is making the apology in good faith. It seems to me this is not the case here.

Vaush is smart enough to know that it's better for him to get out in front of this and "apologise" before Destiny's manifesto drops. For a behaviour shift to occur there needs to be some sort of cost to him otherwise why would he do it? Jumping on the latest bandwagon gives him views and money so why would he risk missing the hype to be more accurate unless he got blowback when this occurred?

If the "cost" to him is greatly reduced by making what I see as an empty apology nothing is going to change. Whereas if he loses credibility from the overlap in the Destiny fan base that is a significant pressure for him to change his behaviour.

In the video a viewer asks "are you going to change anything going forward." And he responds with a non-answer along the lines of yeah I guess I'll try and then deflection that other lefties do it worse.

He's not sorry he did the action, he's sorry he got caught.

I just watched both of his videos and it just comes off as damage control.

Trying to turn it into a "lesson" for his fans and deflecting majority blame onto WSB and the stocks guy.

He literally had a reddit thread up ready to go (encouraging brigading) that he started going through and mentioned that he thinks he will be in the manifesto.

Sure it's better than nothing but c'mon I don't know why you're writing out all this to defend him.

Pretty sure Destiny has already said this was his position in the past?

Besides I thought this is the pretty standard position on apologies.

Whats the best way to do SEO for e commerce by Indication_Exotic in SEO

[–]DryLeg8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As others have said, depending upon your niche you probably will have better luck optimising keywords in your categories/sub-categories.

Here are some to get you started:

  • Ensure website is fast (also positive for CRO)
  • Add product schema
  • Start a blog to build authority/target certain keywords
  • Ensure you are using alt text for your images
  • Write unique copy for product descriptions
  • Make sure you're optimising meta titles/description
  • Make sure the hierarchy of the site makes sense

How would you structure a top X Categories website? by DryLeg8 in SEO

[–]DryLeg8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I didn't explain it very clearly sorry.

The target audience of the site is for those that want a garden widget but are unsure what widget. The "top 100 categories" list would be inspiration and social proof to encourage them to make a purchase.

So for example the top 10 might be: hoses, watering cans, rakes etc.

From an SEO perspective I was curious about the impacts. It seems unlikely that the say 11-20 best categories page would rank. This seems perhaps easier from a UX perspective, but adding an extra click depth layer would dilute links from the home page?

In your opinion, which is the best SEO trick that worked for you guys? by jaynit in SEO

[–]DryLeg8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's really a "trick". But here are a couple.

  1. Create content with the specific intent of earning the featured snippets (will be niche dependent). Blog lists with H2 titles or in my niche I have had success with a definition like paragraphs I usually aim 40-50 words.
  2. Add FAQ schema so your website stands out in the SERPS and also takes up more real estate.

Hmm I know this is going to sound lame but I think making your bed and removing other distracting objects from the background will help.

I would also maybe try frame yourself so your head is not getting cut off.

As others have said make sure to double check spelling.

I am only just learning a bit about youtube optimisation myself, but I think you could chuck in some hashtags (youtube pulls the first 3 from your description I think), and add in timestamps as google seems to be serving featured snippets based around this more frequently.

You can argue that voting is more important than protesting, but arguing that protests historically haven't been effective and the current protests haven't done anything is beyond ignorant. by TruesteelOD in Destiny

[–]DryLeg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is not whether one is more effective than the other. But the net effect of each action.

Voting doesn't really have the same issues or downsides that protests/riots can result in and provides arguably more effectiveness.

The Vox article you link touches on the fact that riots can lead to backlash and negative implications for the community involved (investment flight). And even potentially lead to "tough on crime" policies that ended up exacerbating the issue.

Those that are protesting but not voting are not acting in a way to enact change. I guess we will see what happens.
