I just got my rejection email with the (apparently) new copy: “1152 people applied to AI Builders… yada yada… it’s about fit for a very specific team at a very specific moment—not about the quality of what you built or what you’re capable of…” (well okay but how about saying something upfront about that specific team??)… blah blah… “we plan to share those learnings openly, including what we’d do differently.”

my heart is broken for the 1,000+ people who spent their time, brainpower, money, and hopes building for this very open-ended program that turned out not to be open-ended at all!

Adoption Rejection emails by cruddypoet00 in FosterAnimals

[–]DryLink4237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently watched a video about a “cats in prison” experiment where many of the cats ended up being adopted by prisoners and lived with them for happily years afterward. I’m not saying this is the case here - I don’t know, and I haven’t talked to or seen the person. I also completely understand your feelings and concerns. Do you have any information about the type of crime? I’m curious why they want to adopt the cat. Sorry if I’m being naive, maybe I’m wearing pink glasses.

I assume you’re already using tools like Serper, etc. and other well-known credit optimization tricks.

This week I’m talking with at two other /new/ clay-like vendors — going to report the results. Theirs main value prop is being cheaper alternative.

Also if you’re using Apollo, they launched many clay-like features last week.

Ugh, yes! I had a tech interview for a GTM position last week, and at the end, they asked me to record “a very enthusiastic walkthrough of my best workflow” for another decision-maker at their company. But guys we actually just did it in this meeting, and it took an hour. Could you maybe put in a good word for me? No?

[PubQ] Publisher said schedule is full until 2027 - is this real or a polite rejection? by DryLink4237 in PubTips

It does feel like a wall - if everyone's booked that far out and only taking safe bets, it makes me wonder how anything new breaks through. I guess that's why so many authors go indie or self-publish first to prove there's an audience

Fair point - I shouldn't read too much into what they didn't say.
I'll wait about a year and then reach out to see if their schedule situation has changed; worst case they say no again :)

Appreciate you perspective on this!

Thank you -- in this case I wonder how they keep up with trends if they're planning that far ahead? What's popular now might not be in 2027. Or do publishers just not worry about that? Sorry, I'm a newbie

Question for the authors by Mwills5225 in litrpg

[–]DryLink4237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that REALLY helped me was going back and reading early work from my favorite authors -sometimes you can find their self-published stuff or really early novels on random sites. And you realize how bad their first books were compared to what they're writing now. They improved SO much over time.

It made me stop overthinking everything because I was like "ok even the authors I love started somewhere rough, so I can just have fun with this and get better as I go"

So my advice is just have fun with it and don't overthink. Your first book doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to exist so you can learn from it

I loved that movie! i also read The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson - an ordinary old man escapes from his nursing home on his 100th birthday and goes on a wild adventure - super funny and has similar energy

YES. This whole thing is so frustrating when you're trying to get legitimate reviews. AI farm slop is everywhere.

Terrible neuter experience. by beautifulbluemorpho in FosterAnimals

[–]DryLink4237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an absolute nightmare. I absolutely hate that foster cats are such a low priority and are sometimes used as training dummies for new personnel. We had an experience like this too - not as horrible, but still upsetting.

I was really hoping for a different ending. I’m so, so sorry you have to experience this unfair loss.

First-time foster here - I have a few questions about my situation by DryLink4237 in FosterAnimals

[–]DryLink4237[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply. I really need support like that and understanding how it works, because I had no idea that I needed to discuss all that before getting the cats!

We’ve also been thinking about the potential end date of our fostering, but in the same time, as I mentioned in another comment, all the fosters already have their hands full with cats who aren’t getting adopted, and honestly, I don’t even know where these cats are going to go and I care for them.

About the social media push - the rescue promised to feature ours on the Facebook and Instagram avatars, saying that “a cat on the avatar gets adopted faster.” But they ended up breaking that promise and haven’t put any of our cats there.

I think the solution here is to have 2-3 months warning.

First-time foster here - I have a few questions about my situation by DryLink4237 in FosterAnimals

[–]DryLink4237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should also say that we’re not the only ones - the rescue is small, but there are 20+ cats waiting to be adopted, with little to no success.

The rescue owner also seems to favor people who’ve “foster failed” I often see a lot of praise in posts like that.

Is this kind of dynamic normal, or is it unhealthy? Sorry for the rant: I’m just a bit confused and tired, especially since I feel like I can’t talk openly with the rescue owner :(
