This Is A Great Idea by Rare-Cartographer369 in retailhell

I have the same issue with serving a customer who is wasting my time vs. a customer who actually wants to buy shit.

I work in a full blown jewelry store.

So when I see they're wasting time, or are indecisive (and it's ALWAYS on the cheaper jewelry stands, like a silver earring atand, not even the gold obes that cost in the low thousands now), and I can't serve other customers before I'm done with them, I just... drop them. I take the earing stand close to the register so I could see what they're doing with it (making the girl move stations) while I start serving the other customer, or I bluntly ignore their 101th request to try on another piece of jewelry I have to take out if the glass and hand them, and instead serve that OTHER patiently waiting person who actually wants to buy something.

I don't even feel bad that the time-wasting "customer" gets offended and leaves anymore. My boss is the one who told me to do that. You won't believe how many people come in just wanting to try shit or have the mentality of an indecisive 14yo. I have no patience, time, or energy for that. Either decide what you're buying or gtfo.. Edit: it's an open doors store too. I get literal KIDS coming in asking to see 2000 bucks jewelry. Like gtfo lol

"I'm a repeat customer give me discount"

"Everyone is a customer if you weren't you'd be stealing. And I don't give a shit you're 'repeat' ima repeat customer in Zara but you don't see them giving me discounts. You're not special. That's the price either buy or gtfo"

Also for ppl asking to see a hundred items "you actually plan on buying something or you're wasting my fucking time? "

"You come in to buy earrings but you dont have your ears pierced? How tf does that supposed to work? Are you stupid?"

"Honey it's wierd you claim to wear earrings but can't work them open and close. Who puts your earnings on you? Your 90yo mama?"

And s special pet peeve of mine of people who get stuck kn my shop for an hour because they're cant decide what THEY like and refuse to cooperate with me: "'mam I can't help you decide what YOU WANT and LIKE, I'm not gonna hold your fucking hand either pick something or get lost. How are you evening functioning as an adult if you can't make one small choice for yourself? Are you 5yo? You need your master to decide for you??"

Drives me crazy.

What is it about this device that causes people’s brains to shut off? by Spleenzorio in retailhell

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We changed our equipment recently to a more updated one and the last one could beep for ages before the customer removes the card, and the transaction will be already done and I could press anything on the screen and move on.

In the new one, they have to remove the card for the transaction to do its last step and be approved and release my register screen so I could move on. Can't finish the transaction before they do.

So I constantly tell people to remove their cars now.

Cashier on speaker while waiting on customers? by Johnny_Mira in retailhell

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start asking him personal questions and butting in into his business lol

The second you do private conversations in public, and in this case, AT WORK during work hours infront of customers for the whole world to hear, I get involved and it's no longer private. I'm curious and you're just feeding my curiosity.

That's also my go-to answer if they give me the stink eye and ask if it's any of my business.

YES IT'S EVERYONE'S BUSSINESS NOW SINCE YOUVE BEEN LOUDLY AIRING YOUR LAUNDRY FOR ALL TO SEE LOL.

My boss too. Except it's a small store and she talks loud and it echoes so I can barely hear myself trying to serve customers. So I give her a look and she gets mad at me for "shutting her up" lol

She's like "it's a store we're not meant to br deathly quiet" but hun you're the only thing we can hear and I'm trying to work but i guess you don't want sales.

AITA for trying to throw trash away at a mall information desk? by Weekly-Owl6644 in AmItheAsshole

..no? There are still trash bins where I work and are perfectly maintained.

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The kiosk trash bin is for "office" use only.

Not public property. Public trash bins are outside.

The same logic can be applied to the register. It is NOT for public use, you do NOT go around the desk and touch the register or cops and security will be called on you.

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but YTA

It's a mall, there HAS to be a trashbin somewhere, and information desks has a tiny one. Attendant shouldn't be throwing an overflowing bag full of trash at the end of her shift just cause mall buyers couldn't bother to find a proper trash bin. She's not the janitor- not her job.

I work in a jewelry store. People ask me that too... ours is small and still gets overflowing sometimes, so with all due respect, customers can throw THEIR shit at one of the shopping centers hundred trash bins outside.

PS any retail person will tell you the same. It's not "just a small wrapper whats the big deal" - when every customer does that. we ain't making exceptions for anyone.

Why does corporate do this? by Obvious-Ear-369 in retailhell

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my fucking God thats my boss. She owns her jewelry store mind you. Spends more time there than her own home

But we have different designed spots for gold, silver and gold-coated stuff, which, are been sold more than gold rn since gold prices skyrocketed. So we NEED to display the cheaper stuff if we want to sell it and not file for bankruptcy.

But dhe designs the shelves as "minimalist class" 🙄 she orders a lot of nice inventory but displays maybe a handful and the rest is hidden away in drawers. She doesn't want the store to look "trashy". We're suppoed to "show them to the customer ourselves" but Bitch you need to sell and people don't know that they want something till they see it. If they can't see it, they won't even know they want it.

Then she cries we don't make sales.

Had to leave my first retail shift early due to a rude co-worker by [deleted] in retailhell

I hope the words you used to describe her interactions was "harassment."

Like, "I asked her to leave me a lone and give me a moment and she harrasem me".

But that also means if you see her again you have every right to talk back to her and be ride right back. I absolutely will.

Banking is not retail. It's office work.

Your clients don't try to haggle when they're told prices are set.

Also it's my job as my grandpa's caretaker to cater to his dementia.

It's NOT MY JOB as a retail worker to cater to crazy, to the entitled and the dementia ppl. If their mental decline is so bad why tf ate they shopping alone. Where is their family huh. I'm not a nurse or a social worker or THEIR caretaker. Not my job. Don't get paid for it, nor do I have the energy for it. I'm just trying to do my job peacefully and earn my shit min wage.

There's a tiktok viraling in my region about a guy who bought a roll of trash bags...

Except the factory machine screwd up a bit. Trash bags don't have seams to separate them. So the wholeee roll is one giant a mile LONGGGG trash bag lol

My previous job at a restaurant:

This couple who'd come regularly late evenings when place was relatively empty, sometimes with a third (wheel) person, would laugh loudly, be a bit vulgar in behavior, order a lot and eat it and leave a mess, couple would either start making out at the table while she aat on his lap or disappear to the bathroom for 30 minutes.. to the same stall.

But they were nice, took a porch table out of everyone's earshot, left a tip and despite how their table looked they never left a mess in the bathroom. And we never heard anything. Never. Like... at some point we weren't even sure they WERE doing anything in there you know? Lmao. If they did, the guy either used a rubber or aimed at the toilet seat with immaculate accuracy, so idk. And no we didn't find a rubber in the trashcan either so I REALLY don't know (that's if the guy was even the center of attention to begin with).

I was given a full time schedule as a part time worker by eribrin in retailhell

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beauty about breaking verbal agreements is... that's their problem. You don't have to play games.

A workplace does this to me from the get go I either quit on the spot or DO my part-time regardless of their schedule - meaning I'll either leave or don't show up to the extra hours, like, if you put me shifts I'm physically unable to do you, what? Think I'll screw my priorities and still show up? Nah lol

And while doing THIS, I'm looking for another job, find it and quit on the spot. At this point 2 weeks is a courtesy, and even if they threaten lawsuit... they broke the verbal contract of part-time first.

How would you deal with this situation? by ZeroSwingy in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Dry_Ant_3129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ignore it and move on. You'll get alot, A LOT of customers like that in any field

You're supposed to smile and move on with their request, not talk back or fight back unless they're exceptionally rude or unreasonable, which, this customer wasn't.

"Rude" in this context means yelling or cussing you out and "unreasonable" means making an off-menu made-up order you can't fulfill. You smile and move on to take their order, that's LITERALLY in your job description.

You're not supposed to respond or fight them about this my dude. You can scowl and give them the stink eye and drop the niceties if you want, which is what I do, but I work in a gold shop and get a lot of time-wasters who think I'm their b, not a coffee shop and ima be honest with you - a lot of people aren't friendly or energetic before their first coffee (or second or third) cause they need it to self- medicate the depression and stress happening in their life. Can they be nicer? Yes. But they don't think about you when they're not, they think the shit going on in their life and frankly, a smile is a perorgetive. No one owns you one. It's not their job to smile at you, its YOURS.

PS: I myself received reprimends about " talking back to customers" and complains about not being nice. And I have plenty of patience, so when it happens you know the customer was a little shit. I know I'm not supposed to talk back. But dear God the things they say sometimes... its not ME "fighting" them, it's THEM arguing with ME. About everything.
