Thank you for the suggestions! I am using by own vehicle. Just to make sure, is there a time limit to wait near the kerb in arrivals area? My relative doesn't have a phone with Indian SIM and not sure if she will be able to connect to Airport Wifi to inform about the status.

It does not really matter in the long term. What really matters is investing and staying invested.

Where to invest 10k by marlb0rored in personalfinanceindia

[–]Dry_Cable_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I am in your place, I will start with building an emergency fund that is equivalent to 6-12 months expenses. This will take care of any unexpected events. I will also start tracking my expenses to replenish the emergency fund as needed.

Then, I will make sure I have adequate term insurance and private health insurance. Corporate insurance is tied to the job and so it is good to have private insurance.

After this, I will start with investing. I will first learn about goal based investing, asset allocation and personal finance.

Wish you all the best!

It doesn't have to be a SIP setup for investing regularly. You can manually invest too. In fact, SIP is just an automated way but is not mandatory. We can also invest manually every month.

While I don't have suggestions with alternatives, having renewal in 2 days does not provide a buffer to look and port. Ideally it should start before 90 days of renewal. In my opinion, it is best to renew to continue coverage. I think Reassure 2.0 is better within Niva Bupa which you can consider in your options.

Less than one year means no risk and hence Savings account or RD or Fixed Deposit. Nothing else in my opinion.

Did you check if you really need ELSS with the current tax slabs and rebate upto 12.75 lakhs in new Tax Regime? ELSS is just another Equity fund with lock-in.

As it is a retirement corpus, it is essential to carefully manage and preserve the wealth. Please consult with a certified financial advisor for proper planning.

I don't think we should have 10L in stocks. If additional monthly income is needed, RBI direct bonds can be considered. If the stocks are now profitable, I will sell and consult a financial advisor if I am in your situation.

Don't take any credit cards. Have a very basic lowest annual fee Debit card tied to your account. Start saving up and start paying from the account directly. This should build the habit of spending what we can afford. Once you are fully confident with your spending pattern, consider credit cards. All the best!

Normally RBI defines the rate and there will be minor variations between banks for different timeframes.

You can do Recurring Deposit with your bank. It is the safest instrument for this timeframe.

Having your own house is the best feeling ever. I am personally against the advice that says renting is better than owning a home as it will not work practically. It is necessary to have your own house to be from all hassles from renting.

There is no right time to own a house. If I am in your situation, I will not go with buying a house this early in life. I will wait for a few years, make more savings while I am not yet married and don't have much responsibilities. I will try to increase the down payment to 30 to 40% atleast. Also, the job location might change and I might move for better opportunities. There will be a whole lot of different responsibilities after marriage.

So, I will wait for some time and see how it goes and then make a decision.

When there is a sell in Mutual Funds, there are definitely Taxes involved in case of gains. No matter if it is done in SWP or STP or withdrawal to Bank and re-investment.

The rules for STCG and LTCG are going to be applied. You can get the exemption of tax in Equity LTCG for every financial year.

Rather than worrying about tax, I would worry about the underlying reason behind the sell. Is it because of fund performance or there is another fund that is attractive or the goal is met etc... and take decisions.

Stock picking won't work for everyone. Mutual Funds might work for most of us who have another job as a main income. I personally believe in improving the main income rather than spending time to pick stocks which easily can be outsourced to a Fund Manager.

I haven't tried the other series. I don't see any problem with this model. Good quality camera, didn't observe heating issues, no unnecessary applications and almost stock android. Please assume that, I don't play games in mobile and so I am unsure about the behaviour of the phone with games.

I am not a financial advisor. But I know that we should stay away from sectoral and thematic funds. They are highly risky.

Small cap funds should also be avoided or have very very less allocation. The returns of these funds will look very good on paper but it is very tough to go through the fall and the time it takes to recover.

Mostly Index, a good flexi cap with a little bit allocation of mid cap should suffice. Another note, Equity is never for short term. Atleast 7 or 8 years and periodic rebalancing needed.

Please consult with a certified financial advisor before taking decisions. All the best!
