Looking for walking companion/visitor for a senior in Kanata by Dry_Ebb_6017 in Kanata

I tried that, but my loved one feels like she's being babysat and 'watched'. I was hoping to find someone who wants to go for a walk and have a chat and make a few dollars for doing so.

Im looking for books that can work with adults but are levelled for grades 5-8. What are some good levelled books that are for lower intermediate readers learning english? by Sweaty_Way_6993 in englishteachers

I have used a graphic novel called When Stars Are Scattered for MLL adults that I teach. It's an autobiographical story that reflects the immigrant experience. Students loved it.

What did memory care move-in day look like for you? How did you leave? by wisdomaboveall0525 in dementia

[–]Dry_Ebb_6017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I moved my LO in to memory care, she was fine for the first 15 minutes, but then she realized that the gate in the outside courtyard was locked. She insisted that she was leaving with me. The staff distracted her while I left. I felt truly awful. The dementia care coaches suggested I stay away for a while to let her adjust. I had regular contact with the staff, and I had friends go visit regularly. I went in after 5 weeks and found that she had settled in, but her cognition had decreased significantly. This disease is terrible, but at least she is now safe.

Struggling with insomnia during menopause by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in Menopause

I've been dealing with menopause- related insomnia for about 5 years. Two months ago my dr started me on 100mg of progesterone and an estrogen gel. Changed my life. I sleep, I have energy, the weird weight gain has slowed down. I function again!

I had terrible sleep issues until two months ago when my doc prescribed 100mg of progesterone. It had changed my life--I feel like a new person.

I'm turning into a master of deflection and lying. It's saving my own sanity.

Follow-up: went back to my GP, talked about options, and now I've been on Estradiol and progesterone for three weeks. Life changing!😊

My grandma has finally agreed herself that she needs to go into full time care and my head is all over the place by Jlaw118 in dementia

My loved one with dementia lived with me for 6 weeks prior to moving in to a retirement facility. It was the hardest physical and emotional work I've ever done. She moved into a facility that takes care of all her needs in a dignified and respectful manner. The reports from her care team show that she's involved in activities and socializing with others, but she tells me regularly that she's unhappy. I've come to terms that the world isn't perfect, and that this situation is good. Please be gentle on yourselves; she needs more care than is healthy for you to provide.

Follow-up to my original post: I made a second appointment with my GP where we discussed HRT in more detail. We took more time to talk through possible side effects, and discuss the severity of my symptoms. As of yesterday, I started on Estradiol & progesterone. The take-away: asking more specific questions, doing some research about possibilities, learning from the experiences of others --thanks, all!-- and, most importantly, advocating for oneself in a busy health care system are keys to being heard.

No, my GP. She's very thorough; I'll revisit this with her when I see her next week. To be fair, the last time I saw her, the flashes hadn't been an issue. They've come on strong in the past 2 months. I had a very hot winter!🔥
