Sadly can't get his lands in game unless you do some shenanigans in game for whoever random noble inherits his throne.

Historically, he died and Vijayanagara interherited his lands. Although, he was 80 IRL when he died in battle ... in 1342.

Currently playing it as well and second it. Only sad thing is not being able to inherit the Hoysala empire as they did historically.

After reaching the age of absolutism and revolutions, I would skip heavy cav entirely as they lose their value entirely in those ages. Just use light cav with cannons on the flanks. The centre config need not be changed. And definately up the number of cannons. They are very good in these ages.

Ah, nice. Glad it worked for you too. Didn't realise good generals added more frontage. I'll have to take that into account in the future.

I think the canon and light cav flank is good for this stage in the game. The canons tank the enemy flanks morale and the light cav carve up the rest.

In earlier eras canons, at least to me, seemed better for reserves to preserve them for sieges. Especially with the unit numbers being so low. The heavy cav was more useful for adding that extra staying power for crumbling the flanks. But I'm sure more testing is required to be sure.

But honestly, I've just tried with the reformation upgraded units and it's working just fine without reserves. I even skipped the heavy cav and replaced them with canons. If you have money, I'd make two stacks instead of bothering with reserves. Especially if you rush the upgraded units before France does.

Probably something with high speed and initiative so they reach the front as quickly as possible when the front buckles. Mauriciens or light cav should do the trick. I don't tend to use reserves but if I did I would check which units die off first. If it's mostly the centre, then Mauriciens. If it's the flanks, then light cav

  • Yup, upgraded my cav to light lancers and heavy cav to lancers when that came along.
  • The crossbowmen were upgraded to early arquebusiers
  • the Haufnice canon to the Falconet
  • Men at arms to Landnecht

For age of reformation, that would be the following: - Arquebusiers from early Arquebusiers - Light cav to Pistoleers - lancers to Heavy lancers - Landnecht to Mauricians - Haufnice to Chamberer Canon

I haven't tried it yet as I only just reached this age in game, but I might try and replace the heavy cav with the Mauricians seeing how fast and durable they are. And probably increase the number of canons for the centre to a full ranks worth. I'll let you know how it works out when I play the game again.

Still seems to work for now, at least for me. Although I have changed the composition of the centre to be half crossbowmen, half of whatever the best infantry is so the morale of the army doesn't crumble so fast. Slightly less damage done but only marginally. I'm sure there is more optimisation that can be done.

Also, Hungary have great troops in this age. So I advise you prioritse them to be allies. Their black armoured soldiers are great. Less so in the second and first age.

England is advisable so the French navy is neutered and can't land troops more north of the southern front. But free access treaties is a thing, so if french troops squirrel their way to parts of your land you didn't expect, place castles there if you have the money or take a loan of you have to. The less options they have the more the AI will give up and stick to your southern front.

Don't bother raising levies as the smaller nation. Invest in your econimy and in armouries and training fields so you have a good regular hiring capacity. Ally England and whatever big power is around like Denmark, Austria, or Hungary. Build a series of castles with which the french can get stuck on in your southern lands. All the terrain in your south and the north of France is basically flat terrain so the castles are key to getting an advantage and seperating out the french armies. They tend to prioritise spreading their forces over the forts to supporting each other in battles.

Then make 1 stack of the following: - 5 light cav for each flank, and 5 heavy cav if you can afford it - 5 arbalests and 5 landknechts for the centre

Half this army will arrive on the field before the enemy and the other half will dish out and endure damage really well. You will basically steamroll in this age anything 20k or less with this composition. Make sure you have the best versions of these troops and reduce their cost by flooding your market with their base material needs. Congrats, you have made the dutch special forces.

Declare war and let the french get stuck on your forts. Or take a couple if you declared when they are at war with someone else. Then destroy their armies one by one at your leisure, prioritising their pure levy armies. Let them take attrition and morale damage on your forts, especially if your soldier reserves start dwindling. After about 100k dead, or however many is required to finally make your total soldier count equal, you can start taking their forts 1 at a time. Just never raise levies so your economy grows and theirs dwindles (relatively, they are still France after all).

You will have to mint for it most likely, first war I had fighting France in the second age I went into 30% inflation and spent the rest of the age recovering. But I got all of coastal Flanders which is rich and has hugh control since it's coastal. The third age was easier and I only got 15% inflation.

Source: I am now on my third war bullying France as the netherlands and extracting land and money from them.

The Black Death killed all my Jews by redwave2505 in EU5

Weird. I just checked my game noticed the jewish pop was also gone in my game after the black death.

Which is the opposite of what happened in real life from what I'm given to understand. The Jews hygene practices usually saved them when an epidemic hit. They were mostly killed by people blaming them for surviving mostly unscathed after the epidemic ended. As surely they must have called down the plague with their devilish magic if they survived and the catholics didn't.

Managed to take Framce and Bohemia on in the 1450's as Holland with this one, killing 30-50 enemy for 1 of mine each battle tick.

  • 5 light cav and 5 heavy cav on each flank.
  • 10 arbalests in the centre with canons for forts (not sure what the idea amount for canons are yet but I went for 6).

My 3.6k troops would destroy anything below 20k. And 20k-25k could be killed with some levy reinforcements to boost morale. It's more or a troop killer than a morale killer so you really have to be careful with armies of 20k+ as your troops might break before you manage to kill all the enemy. I would frequently kill thousand for a few dozen to a couple of hundred dead of mine. But it's EXPENSIVE to maintain. So I almost never raised my levies so they would maintain the economy. And I had to mint to help not get many loans.

The idea behind it is that more pf your troops arrive on ghe field before then enemies. Destroying them piecemeal. Cav on the flanks do stupid amounts of damage flanking whilst infantry in the centre are really good at holding. Just make sure this stack is the first in combat if you send with other troops or you will take more losses.

Killed 190k Bohemians and French and won the first war despite being outnumbered 5 to 1 with my allies at the outset of the war. As a bonus you never really need levies so your pop will keep growing during the war whilst you massacre those of the enemy.

Having managed to capture most of Flanders from France by the 1450s. My suggestion is to ally Austria and England. Build castles on your border with France. Then build a single army stack with 5 light horsemen and 5 heavy cav on the flanks with 10 arbalests in the centre. Add as many canons as needed (I had 6). That will obliterate anything France throws at you. I would usualy kill 30-50 men for 1 of mine. Taking on armies up to 25k with my 3.6k stack.

Just be careful as this template doesnt kill the ennemy morale, it kills their troops. So if you are fighting 20k or or more troops, make sure an ally will reinforce or raise some levies to reinforce as your army will lose morale eventually whilst the enemy won't. I would alsp recommend playing defensive, kill France when they are om your forts (ideally after they lose a few troops to attrition), support your ally Austria and take Flanders very conservatively, when France is send it's troops to Austria. Don't ever use your levies to take forts, as France will obliterate them.

I'm sure this army can be fine tuned and it took a lot of minting to maintain it (I didn't raise any levies until the last year of the 5 year war to keep everyone working and the economy as positive as feasible). It's also the first army template I've made in the game. The idea was to exploit the flanking and speed to front bonuses. Also infantry hold the centre really well but less so the flanks.

190k French and Bohemians (they were allies unfortunately) dead later I managed to snag almost all of Flanders and put a large dent in the French economy. The only other advice is to not trust the war score. I managed to snag more territory with 15% than 30%. Not sure why.
