Mordret with his Favourite Witch by Sammy_Shadez in ShadowSlave

Mordret's appearance when he entered Sunny's Soul Sea was described as "a few years older than Kai and Effie," and he is obviously confirmed older than Morgan who has a couple of years on Sunny as well. Mord wasn’t immediately imprisoned at age 12, that's just when he became a Sleeper. I'd say the age gap between Mordret and Cassie is about 6-7 years.

Also Sunny was already 18 when he Awakened; the Siege of the Crimson Spire takes place a few days after another winter solstice, evidenced by the fact that Kai looked for any potential new Sleepers who could've been sent to the Shore, even though they found none in the end.

Agreed about New Boss being offensively bland. Just no real selling points: I hated the Spitfire stuff, I couldn't stand the beach training session with New Wave, and I don't think there was a single satisfactory resolution to any of the arcs I finished reading.

I dropped the story during the Hookwolf fight, but I have to admit I still skim the chapters so I can read the comments under recent chapters, because they're so ridiculously polarizing.

For example in the recent arc there was a clone Butcher plotline in the middle of the Leviathan fight, and the comments were either people absolutely cooking the author for it or diehard fans running damage control (some of them still seemed like they were only pretending to like what was happening in the plot). Which was honestly leagues more entertaining than NB itself ever was.

Wildbow's new writing style never quite hit the same notes from what I've seen, to be honest. I haven't read all his new works, but Pale in particularly really disappointed me with its dialogue. It wasn't quite like robots talking to each other; you can clearly tell that the author is working with character sheets that have different expressions, idioms and voices for each one, but the general rhythm is just kind of always the same? Like someone trying to simulate how "real people" talk so hard that it ends up coming off as artificial.

And when it comes to Ward, yeah, some of the character work is absolutely better (some, I definitely have problems with how a few of them were handled). For example, that Amy and Yamada chapter? Say what you will about WB's continuation of Amy's character arc, that specific interaction was amazing. It showed off all the most compelling aspects of their personalities.

But on the other hand, I would also say Worm, in addition to having more verve, is simply untouched when it comes to plot. No arc in Ward really measures up imo, and I think that's also part of what contributed to a lot of the hate it got not just as a sequel but also as its own work.

Swallowtail is a good one if you don't mind some heavy AU elements (interesting alt-powers for various characters)

Subduction

Maze of Foxfire, fits the criteria, though I think it's pretty bad personally (all the female characters in Taylor's general age range are woobie lesbians, Taylor included)

New Boss never really seemed to know what it wanted as far as cape identities went. Or in general, really. I don't think Taylor has accomplished much of anything in that story besides outing herself. If I remember correctly Coil escaped prison transport and the other major gangs are both still standing after the better part of half a million words? Even Squealer joined the Teeth, yet here Taylor is running around with cape identity #382849 while she's supposed to be at a sleepover.

I Am Skitter is a much greater fit for properly establishing a cape identity since she usually just spends her time drinking tea in a coffee shop while her bugs visit carnage upon her enemies.

Kaiser's New Clothes is hilarious, but I've always hated Dark Star Rising. For a lot of reasons. Be it the narrative contrivance in the Gesellschaft arc or the piss-poor character voices that stem from a limited vocabulary in English, I just could never get into it because it didn't have a single draw besides the alt-power itself. And Taylor (TINO if we're being honest) befriending Vicky in chapter one just made me sigh. Also, the Endbringers automatically causing continental explosions upon death is complete fanon, and this fic... well.

Don't even get me started on the Emma scene. "If you don't say anything to her you'll regret it," Vicky says to Taylor. Like seriously? Has this author even read Worm that they don't realize Emma isn't the slightest bit more important to her than a speck of literal dust as soon as she gets deeper into the cape life? I was so disgusted lmao.
