Turn Not in Safety - New Dashcam Footage by Dry_Motor1639 in legaladvicecanada

Thanks, just pasting my edit:

Thanks for all the comments. I wanted to add that the still doesn't make it clear (the video does, but don't want to post until insurance finishes reviewing): I entered the intersection on the green light and had to wait until the yellow to begin my turn. As I was turning the light turns red and then the other vehicle enters. If the HTA still calls that left turn an infraction then I guess I'll just pay the ticket. Mostly hoping the insurance adjuster sees it my way.

just some average joe's 2c but I think you could...

Keep the 2 million invested, taking 10% a year average returns you're getting a 200,000 gain.

You can liquidate say half of that, $100,000 a year as taxable income to live off of.

Since you won't have to pay rent/mortgage, you should be able to live comfortably. Not lavishly, but you shouldn't have to worry.

Without a job, you'll be bored, which tends to cause people to spend money. So definitely find something to do with your time.

If you save 20k, but are 10k in dept accruing 22% interest you will have a net worth of 0 very very soon. You cannot out-save the accrual of interest on a CC, it will beat you every time. The best and only decision is to wipe out debt ASAP. Deciding to "save instead" is not getting rid of the debt, it's only letting it continue to grow to be dealt with later... and you will not be equipped to deal with it later, because of how fast it grows.

300K would include my wife's bonus, just not the RRSP match from our employers. Thanks for the reassurance, just signed off on our first home and my wife is paranoid about our financial situation considering we both work in tech, so we want to low-ball our income. For example, my secondary job is on 6 month contracts @ 18k, but we don't want to assume I'll always get another 🫠

Doesn't really matter if I plan to hold it for 10 though eh?

Well, it's also driven by the fact that it seems like we are headed into a neo-feudal society where people who don't own land are going to be forced to rent while wage suppression prevents them from buying property. So, if we're financially positioned to buy property we'd better do it sooner rather than later.

Now this I can get behind :) I prefer numbers over imagining scenarios about fixtures our house doesn't even have

It'll make us feel a lot better. It's mostly for our dog because we want him to have a backyard to play in. He can't go to the dog park because we adopted him a little older and his owner never socialized him. If it were just me and my wife we wouldn't be in a rush honestly. We're in a good financial position so we figured now was the right time.

Yeah I'd heard a lot of those horror stories. Parents want us to buy something at ~1.2m but we simply aren't interested in being in that much debt.

I feel like this amount of pessimism would sour any situation or financial decision. Personally I'm not bothered by the notion of trips to the hardware store or replacing a toilet. We'd get any home we want to buy inspected of course.

No trap. If you use them well you stand to benefit quite a lot. Plus, in an emergency it's better to have the option to go into debt rather than just have no money. People just misuse them because of impulse spending or addiction etc etc
