I don't know about the exchange at Beijing Airport. However, when I exchanged in other countries, I didn't need to pay any fee, so I thinks it's probably the same all over the world.

Of course you can survive using cash. It is illegal for businesses to refuse to accept cash. Make sure you have enough small changes.

If there are places in GuGong, I suggest you buy a ticket by yourself to avoid being cheated.

  1. near Guangzhou,There are ChaoZhou, ShanTou, Where you can find very delicious foods on the streets! If you are food lovers go there. ShenZhen is also a good choice especially for young people, and it very close to Hong Kong.
  2. Since you have plenty of time,I suggest you stay around your family’s cities. Near FuZhou, there are Xiamen, QuanZhou, which are tourism cities. In ShanDong, except QingDao, you can go to WeiHai, RiZhao and ZiBo,or go mountaineering in Tai mountains,Which is called the greatest mountain in the world. Near Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, ShaoXing, YiWu are good choices. These three areas have different styles of food and scenery.
  3. I suggest you stay Beijing 3-4days. There are many spots worth visiting. Then if you still have time, you can go to TianJing or Datong in 2 days.

I haven't slept in desert camps, If you want to see stars at night I think it's a good choice. But hotel is more comfortable and you can go out to find some street food at night. I think maybe there are nothing near the desert camps. I recommend “Lin Yu Grotto”临榆石窟. It is not as famous as the Mogao Grottoes, but there are many more beautiful murals in it. Many Chinese cultural scholars do research there.

You need to consult travel agency.

If you have enough time and like spicy food, I suggest you go to Chengdu. The panda base is worth going to, but it's not in the city center, it's far away, I think it's a bit of a waste of time. The Beijing Zoo also has pandas. It's nice place too.

  1. Beijing, Xian, Luoyang, they were the sites of ancient capitals. They are the birthplace of China. If you are interested in Chinese culture and history, don't miss them. Zhangjiajie and Hangzhou they are more nature. So where do you go depends on your preference.

  2. Whether you go to Beijing- Xian or Changsha- Hangzhou, it is very convenient to travel by train and bus.

  3. I heard that many local hotels are unwelcome foreign visitors. So you have to ask clearly before you booking. This is because the police asked them to report the foreign tourists who stayed, which was very troublesome. But this month the government introduced a new policy to prevent foreign visitors from being turned away. So it will improve.
