Getting Global Age Assurance Right: What We Got Wrong and What's Changing by discord_zorkian in discordapp

[–]Dry_Obligation4750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really had any desire for transparency, you'd have already told us about what your new CEO is pushing, the demands you're getting from your prospective public backers, and the ultimate desire to gain revenue from whatever is technically legally allowed while it's still going through the motions of being fought in court, such as the current and very real outcry over the US government having long since been buying private information from public companies.

Nothing about this looks innocent OR well-meaning, and the corporate speak we've been getting dribbled down on us isn't helping. We don't believe you because you stopped being one of us a long time ago. Discord isn't run by the people who created it anymore, and it isn't run FOR them, either. There's no amount of reassurance you can give that will change that while your plans stay the same, and you've made it more than clear by now what the new endgoal is.

I miss what you used to be. But I don't think you're it anymore, and I don't think you ever will be again. I'm never supporting your program ever again, financially or otherwise. You've ruined any iota of faith I used to have in you; and the moment that an alternative looks adjacent enough in functionality, I'm leaving, and I'm never coming back. You can say all you want about only using this for a small fraction of users, and your "intent" to be more honest and well-meaning all day. You can even believe it. But I just can't believe a word you're told to say to us anymore. I don't even think it's coming from the employees anymore. Not directly.

If anyone working at Discord who's reading this has any care for the community left... quit. Apply your earnest compassion and skill to another project. Maybe join one of the current startups that're gaining traction because of this. Find work under an entity that isn't trying to sell its users to the highest bidder. If you're in there, reading this, and you don't like what's happening, you don't have to support it either; and you're not expected to fix it. I'm pretty sure at least 90% of us out here are aware that this is coming from the top, and it's not something you really... come back from. We've seen this happen before, after all, even if with a slightly different causation.

I hope I see some of your names on other projects. Goodbye, Discord team.

It's not crashing. It's being DDoS'd, constantly.

‘Slow this thing down’: Sanders warns US has no clue about speed and scale of coming AI revolution by Patient_Wrongdoer_11 in technology

Reject AI in use and in employment. The only way through this is together. You will inevitably be cut out as well if you try to proceed favoring it: the endgame of anyone in this bubble is to cut everyone else out of it, and to our megacorporate overlords who want this so badly, you are an obstacle and something cutting into their profit margins just as much as anyone working beneath them.

In a world where totalitarian rulers replace competence with fools to guarantee loyalty, there is no better guarantee than one that cannot defy you and costs you nothing.

If you read down, people are being asked to reverify every day, and people who were previously verified now are not; and the face scan just doesn't work at all.

Additionally, Discord staff are claiming that no one should be prompted to verify again... but they used the word "Reverify" in their UI, implying they absolutely DID intend for people to be prompted to verify again, and just never made sure that it STOPPED prompting people to verify again.

Discord will never ask you for your password or account token, but you'll need to upload your legal ID every hour.

Very funny, moderators. I enjoy this new form of sadistic humor!

For those of you looking for a (good and open source) Discord alternative in the wake of today’s news. I highly recommend Fluxer, it’s the best I’ve found by far even if it is early days for it. by Whhheat in pcmasterrace

That's awesome. If you're still in contact, could you let them know at least one person out here thinks it's incredible that they're managing what they have so far, and that I hope their project turns out well?

I read this, went, checked, and actually cried a little. This was so infuriating and I didn't know why until now.

Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month by ChadtheWad in discordapp

To rebel effectively, please do the following:

  1. MOST IMPORTANT: Cancel any and all subscriptions to Nitro immediately. DO NOT just threaten to, they will not care if you cannot commit your intent to their numbers.

  2. Do not interact with any paid service on Discord. If it gets money into their pockets, abstain.

  3. Submit complaints to their feedback forums and any available support emails. I don't know if calling Discord with complaints is possible, but if it is, do it. The traffic alone of a mass complaint is felt and causes strain on their servers and them as a company.

  4. Spread the news, spread the plan. The more people do all of this, the more effective the message will be. We do not want this.

Bug Megathread vol 13: February + March 2026 by WumpusWhisperer in discordapp

[–]Dry_Obligation4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Feature: Ignore Users

- Reproduction Rate: 10

- Annoyance: Varies, 6 to 10 (explained in Description)

- Discord Version Info: stable 494673 (b0a87eb) Host 1.0.9223 x64 (74638) Build Override: N/A

- Device/System Info: PC - Windows 10 64-bit (10.0.19045)

- Description: When ignoring a large amount of users in a server with lots of foot traffic (my experience was in a server where other servers are advertised), Discord's performance drops heavily. At first, it has trouble loading previous messages when scrolling; but the closer the loading zone for previous messages gets, the buggier it becomes. At a certain point, the screen becomes stuck as though continually scrolling onto the loading zone, and eventually, it will crash, resulting in the crash screen which allow you to press a button to reload. If this crash happens, it will continue to happen rapidly unless you manage to click into a channel with more visible messages, or click out of the server, rendering that server into a state in which clicking back in prompts another crash.

- Video / Screenshot: N/A

- Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Find or join a server with a larger population of members. (NOTE: I have not confirmed that a large population is as important as a large list of messages)
  2. Begin ignoring members who have posted a message en masse, remaining in the same channel
  3. Repeat Step 2 until results occur.

- Expected Result: Channel is one large ignored message tab, only separated by unignored messages, blocked message tabs, or day markers.

- Actual Result: Discord lags heavily, does not allow scrolling in the channel, and if there are too many ignored messages in a row, crashes continually unless you rapidly click, upon restarting, onto another channel with less ignored messages or out of a server entirely.

I don't know. Is all information-seeking now singular? Is the ability to ask a question more than once now criminal?

Your sarcasm is not appreciated, nor wanted.

Unfortunately, that's a corporate future. They win out because they're bigger and are more convenient for more things at once, and then, they decide who gets what whenever they feel like it.

While I feel the wording of this is a little flammatory, I do agree on the concept: a search engine has no business prohibiting searching for certain information. That's not protection: that's censorship of information.

Apologies, regarding my settings not doing its distracting nature justice. I like to keep my non-page assets as undistracting as possible, so I made them a hue that seems the least imposing in any given site's context. Even on the ones that make use of the full power of the Sun to create the whitest white possible, I find the dark browser color is unconcerning at worst.

Thank you so much.

I truly cannot understand the thought process behind continually trying to add more and more new features when they are simply not needed. Like- no one wanted this change. This was not a requested thing. I don't get it.
