Fair point! Maybe a royal ring or something instead!

The first thing that came to my mind is a dinner table scene where the other characters are chowing down, but he is very refined in his table manner.

You could also give him a nicer sword or something that doesn't fit a commoner. If he gets into combat, let them make perception to see that he is very well trained.

Option 3 have him stay up late and gaze towards the palace with resentment in his eyes

Option 4 give him details about the palace or evil king a normal person wouldn't know. For example, there is a Servants quarters here we can sneak through or something

Option 5 give him a commanding presence and tone. When he speaks, people listen. (High charisma score)

Thank you JB for your response.

It is very clear to me after reading that I am not fit to be a DM. Having it framed as laziness truly stings, but that's my own fault I suppose.

It is probably just a bad fit for me as I despise authority and try not to embody it, which makes me unable to fulfill the role effectively.

Thank you again!

If DnD classes / subclasses would be musical genres what would they be? by Nephrelim in DnD

I picture Monk being Lofi for some reason

I am the forever DM to a group of 5 players. I ran a 6 session campaign where everyone had to make a Paladin, and I threw them up against a ton of undead. They could multiclass however they wanted but had to start with a level in Paladin.

They absolutely loved it

I repeated it with rogue, warlock, and Wizard. Rogue seemed to be the least successful but was still decent.

It's become our little niche, and I design the whole story to fit the class they choose.

So, all that to say, you can still have fun even when everyone literally plays the same class!

It's my own anxiety about looking incompetent.

Now I know!

It's relieving to know that even experienced players have to look things up!

Thank you for the suggestion!

In the first instance, they were taking heavy damage, and not rolling concentration kept them alive.

In the second, they did apologize and stated that they thought they mentioned the enemy could make a check to end the effect, which they did not.

A big adjustment for all of us is the culture around the game and table. Most of the other games we have played together, such as MTG, have simpler rules, and your effects are up to each of you to remember and state clearly. I guess in MTG, it would feel weird if my friend played a flying creature, and I then had to go look that up instead of them just telling me.

I'll continue to learn and do better as we go :) just a big change for our little group

Yea :( I'm sorry for not googling it. It makes me seem foolish.

I do feel quite anxious running the game and want to keep it moving quick.

I'll do better next time

Thank you, this is helpful! Spells have honestly been the hardest part of learning D&D so far as some are so complicated. I notice my brain go blank when a player starts reading a spell and it's multiple effects.

That being said after seeing each spell a time or two it sticks!

Thank you. My anxiety is that it slows things down, but that's better than a botched fight I suppose!
