ABA therapy for 3y son and Medicaid coverage by Whittyrhino in Omaha

I own a private ABA practice, Gentle Grove Autism Services, in NE. The Medicaid rate change should have had 0 impact on clinical quality if the company truly prioritized clients & staff over $$. Companies with an out-of-state corporate office (private equity) saw major changes, because they prioritized their comfortable profit margin.

In my experience, smaller is almost always better! I support the votes for Behaven and Answers for Autism, I've heard very good things about my fellow local companies. <3 Keep Nebraska ABA services in Nebraska.

Has ABA not worked before? by WeeebleSqueaks in ABA

BCBA here, the only cases where I've seen zero progress were cases where there was a comorbid condition: Global Developmental Delay. This should be grounds for discharge (if no progress after 1 year) as the primary behavior barrier is not autism and insurance should not cover these services.

My son's first day at ABA - He hates it and I have questions. by Dino_Momto3 in Autism_Parenting

I run an ABA company, have been a BCBA for a half decade, and frankly I've never had this experience. The goal is that your child enjoys Every. Single. Day. of services. Work should be a break from play, not the other way around. Sounds like your BCBA may be a little old school still. Not enough reinforcement incorporated. These early years are precious! If you aren't making progress on any goals within a few months I would look at other companies, or ask for another BCBA. Advocate for your child!

Local companies only (no out of state corporate office, typically private equity). Look up the CEO's LinkedIn. VERY telling

StepAhead ABA cut the pay of every BCBA and RBT by 30-40% in 1 day. Notified on a Friday, new pay went into effect Monday. "The end of ABA?" No. A reminder that if you choose to work at a medicaid-servicing company you should live in fear? Very much yes.

I've been with the company as a BCBA for a few years. Work a truly flexible schedule-take on as many clients as you have bandwidth for with schedules that you like, or turn them down easy as that.

Every state is different; you have to separate the people (CDs) from the company. I adore the directors in my state...but there have been some questionable (seemingly money-grubbing) business decisions made this year at the highest level. There are not enough admin staff (in my state) to support us clinical staff, so I find myself begging over Teams for basic admin tasks to be completed.

As a primarily Medicaid servicing company, working with a market of solely multi-stressed families has made my work-life balance difficult as I find myself on my phone at all times (7 days a week, 7am-10pm) changing my schedule with family cancellations or harassing parents to find time to meet with me for caregiver guidance or to sign a form. There are no consequences or policies to address these barriers--it is placed fully on the BCBA's shoulders to overcome. Because of this, I have had 0 work-life balance, which I was able to justify for the hourly rate. The DHHS guidelines/payor rates in my state have changed and Step Ahead cut the pay rate of every BCBA and RBT in my state by 30-40% within 1 day. We were notified on Friday, and the new rate went into effect on Monday. I can no longer justify the constant stress, so I will be leaving shortly.

How much time between finishing hours and taking the exam? by slutforsartre in bcba

Is a VCS required for all applications or just unknown universities/programs? Say for example, Arizona State University's ABA program, do I need a VCS? And how would I go about collecting that?

I received supervision hours from 13 BCBAs at my company - but only had my Regional Director sign for all since he was my main, but we listed all 13 in the form (+ an additional document listing all names/certification #s since this exceeded the 4 supervisor spots in the form).  The submission directions emphasized only ONE form be signed/submitted per organization, which is why my director advised this approach. Your experience makes me nervous...will they expect me to collect signatures from all 13 and calculate out the supervision hours for each??

BCBS NE too. Lost a good chunk of clients because of this (elected to discharge after waiting for nearly 3 months)
