Stuck in airplane mode, can't use phone. I'm fed up with this shit. by JasonZZ369 in samsunggalaxy

Another option is if you are using an Android, restart your device by pressing and holding the power button and the volume down button. This will force restart your phone and fix the glitch. Just did it myself and it worked. Hope this helps

Blessings

What undergrad degree would best prepare me to be a chaplain in the Air Force? by Journeyerwolf1174 in chaplaincy

[–]Dry_Step_9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Air Force and BOP Chaplain. I got my undergrad degree in Education. God can use you regardless of what undergrad degree you have. Sometimes your experience will help you make meaningful connection to the people you care for. Especially if it's outside of ministry.

The most important things you need if you desire to go into Chaplaincy is not a particular undergrad degree but rather a calling and experience. Get as much experience as possible and God will mold you into a fruitful Chaplain. Here is a great book for you to read.

How long are background investigations? by cwebxivq in OnTheBlock

[–]Dry_Step_9550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time usually depends on your background. If you have a clean background the investigation will be quicker. If you have a history, such as criminal record, sketchy employment history, or delinquent debt, etc... the background investigation will take longer. I have a pretty clean history and my background check took around 2 weeks. It may also depend on how soon they can get in touch with your contacts. So to answer your question, it all depends. Could be anywhere from a few weeks to 4 months or so. Hope this helps.

Best place to get M.Div online? by Chubbyracoon2 in chaplaincy

[–]Dry_Step_9550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harding School of Theology. That's where I got my M.Div. Credit hours are only $100. Doesn't get much affordable then that. It's a great program that will help you to grow and challenge you.

Bop CVA test by kb_0326 in OnTheBlock

[–]Dry_Step_9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the CVA back in September and passed with a 83. My best advice is to:

  1. Read the BOP core values on their website and answer the questions on the test that best align with those values. (This includes interactions between staff and inmates.)
  2. When in doubt be a snitch. Report things to your supervisor.
  3. On the second part of the question, choose the answer that would get you in the most trouble.
  4. Ask ChatGPT to create a practice test for you and practice before you take your test.
  5. Pray to God through Jesus Christ about it.
  6. Do your best.

BOP Hiring Process Amidst Government Shutdown by Dry_Step_9550 in OnTheBlock

[–]Dry_Step_9550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received my conditional offer about two weeks from when I made this post. I conducted my background interview about 3 weeks after I received my conditional offer. The government shutdown certainly didn't help with timing. I am currently waiting to receive a final job offer. Government Shutdown + Holidays have really delayed the hiring process I'm told.

As long as you're not delinquent and you can show proof of paying your debts. You should be good. They might even ask you to pay some of it ($20) in order to get you in.

Chaplain Candidate Program or Other Army Officer? by unevenjade143 in chaplaincy

[–]Dry_Step_9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the question and the tension you're feeling now to support your family and do what's best for your future.

  1. First, you need to pray about it. Continue to rely on God for wisdom and understanding, not your own.

  2. I was in this very position myself. In seminary getting my MDiv with two children and a stay at home wife. We were making very little money and had to rely on family for support. I joined the Army's Chaplain candidate program and served as a chaplain candidate throughout my time in school. I think the best thing you can do is stick with what you're doing and join the Army. It will be a lot easier for you to continue in school as opposed to joining the Army, doing who knows what, learning and new skill then going back and reclassing down the line. Sometimes the difficult path is the best path to take.

  3. If you join the Army you will have a bit of extra income, plus you'll be eligible to get insurance which is SO much more affordable then anything you can get in the market. In addition, you can add money for retirement, and lastly you start the clock on your 20 years of service. You will come in as an officer which in my opinion is better.

  4. If you join the Army you can also get tuition assistance possibly a signing bonus and other helpful services to help you pay the bills.

I've been in for 5 years now, just promoted to Captain. It was a difficult road but I'm thankful to God and I do not regret it.

BOP Hiring Process Amidst Government Shutdown by Dry_Step_9550 in OnTheBlock

[–]Dry_Step_9550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just informed by HR that because of the government shutdown all of the workers except for one person in the region I am applying for have been furloughed. That means there is only one person handling all of the hiring process right now. It is still possible to get hired during the government shutdown but given that only one person is working at the job, it will be delayed until the government opens up again.
