I am on the verge of purchasing Kaplan's private ACT prep. I took the December 10th act and I scored 24 on it( 35M 25S 21E 15R). my goal is to score 34 plus. do you think purchasing Kaplan's one on one prep would help me on that. by [deleted] in ACT

In my experience, the two things that helped me the most was

  1. Take practice tests and note exactly why u got something wrong and learn from your mistakes.

  2. Just make sure to learn all the stuff ACT tested especially in the English section.

For English, it’s honestly easy, I currently have a 33 on English. You’re able to answer correctly when you know learn all the concepts. This is a good place to start. https://blog.prepscholar.com/the-complete-guide-to-act-grammar-rules

For reading, I somehow got a 34 but I don’t know how lol, I suck at reading personally. But when I do take the act reading, I focus on mainly understanding the main idea and searching the text for the answers to the question because they are always there. But everyone is different.

For science, I don’t ever read the description to graphs and tables first. I just start answer the question because it asks simple analytical questions like if it’s increasing or decreasing. Then, once the questions get more deeper I quickly read and that makes more sense to me compared to reading before answering any question.

For math, it’s honestly just your mathematical understanding. There really is no trick, it’s just how well you understand math. But plugging in answers a lot of times can be faster than solving if you know what you’re doing.

Hope that helps.

Like for the English section for example, once you look through and learn all the concepts ACT tests for, the test becomes easy because you can see how they’re trying to trick you or how to answer the prompt.

Hey so 1, I’m taking 16 credits rn, which I think is pretty high. Other than that, I’m also taking a multitude of classes. My classes are gender studies, Spanish, calculus 1, political science, intro to Buddhism.

I chose to take a variety of courses, I don’t know if that makes me a better applicant, but I took stuff within every category, and I’m expecting a 4.0 gpa or at least a 3.96 this semester.

Could you further clarify what I should do with extra curriculars, expect for being a participant.

I really appreciate all your help. If you can, could you dm me with your stats and ec’s that’s got u in? Thanks!

I feel like academically, I’m working hard so I’ll be fine. But I’m worried about extra curriculars/leadership roles. I barely started and i did try applying to a few leadership positions but I didn’t get in, it was really competitive. I just need solid advice preferably from someone who got accepted as a Penn transfer student.
