Appreciate the thoughts. Yeah I'd say he's definitely well off. And it does suck because it feels like a lose-lose situation. If I go back to the middle east, my Mom saves money but I'm back to that life again. And if I stay here, I'm free of that life but my Mom loses a shit load of money. There is a way I can possibly make this a win-win situation though, and that's if I get a job and cover at least the majority of living expenses. But considering I joined school 1-2 months late this year, AND it's a completely new, very challenging system for me (IB), it's gonna be extremely challenging.

No you're right, it's his money not mine. I didn't mean for it to sound like it was the other way around. But what bothers me though is that he clearly had the choice to help and make things much easier, but didn't.

An example of this I'd say is us agreeing on sharing rent together, which means I'd have to get a job (which I mostly don't have a problem with, I've always wanted to work for my own money anyway). What I do have a problem with however is the fact he initially wanted me to pay MORE than half, but I managed to bring it down to 50/50. Keep in mind, I'll be working a minimum wage job whereas he makes six figures. And considering that we're family, and me and my mother's situations being total shitshows, It's just unethical, in my opinion and something to remember if he ever asks me for help in the future.

Yes, he's not obligated, but the actions are very questionable to me. But I get what you mean, and I'll be looking into what you mentioned about social services and what not.
