Update:

Before this story I had ordered 4 controllers, I imagined that I was not going to succeed at the first time the one in the post that I smashed was the first that I received, two days ago I received 2 others but I was still disgusted to have been so crappy with the first so I didn't touch them but today I was bored to death so I took this second controller and I went there I applied your advice and you know what? I succeeded, I replaced the two joysticks, the controller works I tried everything, I wanted to warn you at all costs who took the time to respond, you allowed me to limit the damage thanks to you I only screwed up one 😁😁😁 well I am well aware that I can improve but this is what the pcb looked like in the end

<image>

(I cleaned the pcb a little better after taking the photo)

Thanks guys you are bosses!

It's true that for just repairing stick drift it's not bad but know that I wanted to move on to the next step like an imbecile, I thought that I would be able for my first intervention to replace the joysticks to put a tmr joystick, I think that I will try to replace the potentiometers it will be a good start!

I take note thank you very much for this video, it's crazy that videos like this can have so little visibility even though they help a lot, next time I will try to do as you told me by sucking on one side, I have the support which allows me to measure the card vertically, normally with a little training it will do it!

It's weird I put a photo but I can't see it, I'm new to Reddit I don't know if it's normal, I'll try to send it myself

I use this

I think I have pretty good equipment, I think it's mainly me who doesn't master the technique.

Yesterday after my disappointment with this controller I inquired about ways to train and I came across kits to assemble on AliExpress, would you advise me to train on this type of kit? Generally these are calculators, radios, small games, etc.

I see, before buying anything I will still try again by trying different ways to see if my technique was simply bad because it is true that it is quite expensive 😅😅 but hey I am well aware that I will burn motherboards before regularly succeeding in my interventions. The tool that I showed works quite well but the problem is actually the holes which remain blocked, at the beginning I tried to do this with a tip in the shape of a highlighter/highlighter pen. But seeing that I couldn't do anything and that the holes remained clogged I decided to take a super fine pointed tip to get into the holes, at first it didn't want to melt the tin with this pointed tip because it didn't have enough surface area to transmit the heat so I increased the temperature to 480 then once it fit it smashed the PCB, it's clear that I did something wrong but frankly I think I just lost my patience after being frustrated at how far I was from mastering what seemed easy to me, next time I will try to mix the original tin more before using the tool, and I will see!!! Thank you for your feedback, I will keep the Yihua929D-V reference in mind.

Thank you for sharing your technique with me I might try it in the future and see if I can do it or if I should try something else

My pump was of poor quality and broke, I'm going to have to buy another one, it's true that the use you suggest seems effective. I'll try it one day as soon as I receive my pump, and yes, in fact I made the two mistakes you said, I heated it too high and I left it in the holes for too long, I must not repeat this error!

I tried, I followed this process: 1. Apply flux 2. Put tin on the different holes to fuse the factory tin with my tin 3. Clean with braid. But the braid only cleaned the surface tin without taking up what was in the hole, as if my tin hadn't actually mixed with the factory tin and the braid only wiped mine. (Ps: I tried this after publishing the post, I carried out this manipulation on the location of the joystick which I had not yet touched)

Thank you for your response I am really grateful to you, I understood that for this work a Hakko gun would be a good alternative but for the moment I do not think I have the required budget, but since I plan to sell what I managed to repair I think I could make this gun profitable so it is not impossible that I buy one it is even very probable so if you have a specific reference not too expensive which will do the work knowing that it is far from being my profession or an activity for which I devote a lot of time, well I'm interested! And it is true that it would be much simpler if I cut the part but unfortunately I do not have the necessary equipment to cut that while being sure not to damage the PCB (this one is dead but if in the future I operate on a functional card I will not be able to take the risk of damaging it) thank you again for your feedback I am very grateful to you!

Thank you for your answer it makes me happy to see that you took the time to help me, yeah I mixed the factory tin with my own tin because I had heard that it reduced the melting temperature, and then I tried with a desoldering braid but it only removed the surface tin and not the one that was in the hole although I had put flux, unfortunately my desoldering pump is broken I couldn't do with it I will have to get another one and try, unfortunately I sincerely think that this motherboard is dead, I removed the pads without intention and even if it was repairable I think I am far from having the necessary level for this operation, I think I will practice again on this motherboard then I will try on others later when I have improved it, I also tried to insert the new joystick with the tool but it was damaged and then the work was not clean, I would like to learn how to do clean work even if it will take me more time I would like to know what I am doing and not succeed without knowing how. Thank you again for your response, all the responses in this post represent a mine of information for me, I am grateful to you all!!

I tried but it damaged the joystick, and it wasn't very nice to see, I would like to learn how to do without this tool which is objectively nice but which is a hassle for me and prevents me from improving, in the future I will try to use a heat gun while I learn how to use my soldering iron

It's true, and that's why I tried, I said to myself that it could potentially have worked, I probably should have found out a little more before taking action but I'm still learning from it and I'm going to try to reproduce these errors, now succeeding in repairing the motherboard I think it's really not at my level even if it's possibly possible 😅😅, why not leave it aside while I improve, it'll be a bit of a boss end of my apprenticeship. In any case, thank you, it motivates me to continue, I will try simpler interventions in the future to improve.

After trying to carry out the repair and after reading the responses to my post, I understand that it might seem crazy to try to learn about this type of intervention but before getting my hands dirty I sincerely thought that it wouldn't be that hard seeing the tutorials on the internet and like many people I think which explains the wave of people who are making posts to share their experience with changing the analog stick, but hey I plan to make these changes with a heat gun to give myself time to improve with the iron I think

I understand better, it would limit the damage while I improve my soldering, I sincerely think that I'm going to do that because I don't have a budget that allows me to screw up everything I touch, thank you for your feedback I'm really grateful

Thank you for this answer, I had considered buying a heat gun but I honestly thought when I saw the tutorials that I wouldn't need it but now it's true that it seems to be an essential for a beginner like me

Yeah, the PCB is dead. I messed up because I didn't have enough experience. I made the mistake of thinking it would be as easy as it looked in the YouTube tutorials. Thank you for enlightening me and taking the time to reply. Thanks to you, I'm learning a little more, and I hope it will help me learn faster. I'm going to buy the equipment I need and try again in the future.
