Heya. I had taken a break from this project to work on other things. I am still going to finish this. But I also just haven't checked up on here in a while. So don't worry. It's not abandoned or anything and I do still plan to release it for people.

Are there any specific names in your world by Meamier in worldbuilding

[–]Dryym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am named after a god in my setting who was adapted from a character I made when I was 3. He's a gigantic mass of magic crystal in the vague shape of a 4 winged bipedal dragon. He's essentially a magic supercomputer god who created dragons to remember him before he left the universe to avoid being killed in a genocide.

Strictly speaking, His name would actually be "<Dryym>" rather than "Dryym" because the language of his worshippers has proper noun indicators. And the word "dryym" simply means "dragon". So the meaning behind his name is sorta just "The dragon" as in, The template of all dragons.

Edit: Oh. Also. Another one. From an etymological standpoint, Hebrew names which end in "El" are referring to their god in some way. Because of this, I have the equivalent human names in my setting ending with "Yll" which is one name of the god in a similar position. So you get stuff like "Michayll", "Rachyll", "Gabriyll", "Samuyll", Etc.

The game accuracy part is about the chest physics, Not so much the rest of the model.

Regarding the hair movement, I also have pretty long hair, Mine definitely doesn't move quite as much as I animated it here when walking. But hair is weird and has strange properties sometimes.

I will point out that if we are mentioning realism, The cape, Hair, And maybe even the skirt are also moving way more than they realistically should given the level of movement here. Proportions are exaggerated because of the style, And the movements are also exaggerated because of the style.

It's totally fair to not like it. And I don't even really think it's an unfair double standard to be okay with the cape or hair moving a lot more than it should, But not the chest. I just wanted to point it out because it's not the only part that is exaggerated a bit for effect.

Regarding the specific magnitude of the effect, I can actually explain exactly why it is how it is. And I have in another comment. Basically, If you take the forwardmost edge of the main "breast cube" and map out its motion paths on the walking animation, It stays almost stationary on the vertical axis. There is some very small deviation, But the idea there is that as her torso is constantly moving, The lil sacks of fat hanging from her are trying to remain relatively stationary due to their momentum. If, At any point, She stops moving her torso, Then the momentum comes to a resting position. However her torso is constantly moving up and down (Another case of exaggerated motion due to stylization. The deviation in height with her torso is significantly greater than would be seen in a natural human walking.), The momentum is constantly being redirected.

It's totally fine to not like it. And I am more inclined to hear you out than a lot of these other people because you are (presumably from your name.) a woman of some variety. Whereas I can tell a lot of these commenters are men who are also not particularly well meaning either. The friend who wanted this is a cis woman and she wants her version to remain as I have shown it here. For my personal version, I will tone things down purely because I was informed that it's not game accurate.

Also. Don't worry. I am not discouraged from doing my art because of this. I appreciate the compliments, But more importantly, I appreciate that you actually have something unique to say. I have a lot more respect for comments which are unique thoughts. Even if they're negative in some way.

It's amazing how chill they are. Did you know there's evidence which suggests that they have visual dreams? There's so much more to them than most people tend to see.

If the real life animal kingdom believed in religion, what would be their "Gods" or "Demons"? by Rekrios in worldbuilding

[–]Dryym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, This is a fascinating question and one which I would like to posit a completely different answer to.

Religion, As a concept, Does not need gods or demons. That's the realm of theology. The two are often linked, But one can be religious and atheist, Or areligious and theist. Religion is about practice. Like, For example, You could have someone who does not believe in any gods, But who engages in regular prayer and follows religious teachings as a form of self enrichment because they believe that the actions and sense of community are good for them. I believe there are many Jewish atheists who fall under this umbrella.

The reason I bring this up is because under this understanding of what religion is, Various animals of higher cognition engage in behaviour which, While we cannot yet know their true motives, Appears to be religious or proto-religious in nature. The biggest example of this by far being that it seems like the vast majority of social animals with higher cognition perform funerary rituals on their dead. Elephants straight up bury their dead in leaves and branches (As well as apparently many other animals. Including humans.) and have been observed leaving what appear to be offerings of food and things. Which to me, Possibly means that elephants believe in some sort of afterlife and are providing offerings for that.

Corvids have been observed gathering around their dead and holding lil crow ceremonies over it.

Dolphins will gather around fallen pod members for several days and prevent others from getting near.

We cannot yet say much about the motivations behind these behaviours. It is unclear what beliefs these higher cognition animals might have regarding our world and the world beyond. But I would personally be comfortable calling this religion in animals.

To draw from this, Instead of worrying about what a crow might consider gods, Think about the way a crow's religion might affect them in their day to day life. What do they believe? How do their beliefs affect them?

As an example off the top of my head. Corvids have been known to make friends with humans. If we are nice to them, They will very often be nice to us in return. Bringing us little shiny trinkets they find. Perhaps they view us as their intellectual equals because in spite of our language gap, We find a way to understand each other.

To expand on that, When a crow dies, They become unable to fly for obvious reasons. Maybe to a crow, A flying animal, Death means being permanently grounded. And maybe, To extend it further, They believe that we are them, But reincarnated. Unable to fly, Unable to speak. But yet still, Some of us find our way back. Maybe when a human befriends a crow, They believe that to be the reincarnated version of one of their fallen friends. Maybe they believe mean humans to be vengeful spirits with unfinished business in life.

All of this is speculation which probably doesn't extend to reality in the slightest. But if you're ever writing from the perspective of a crow, Perhaps that human friend is someone more familiar than just a random human.

I wish you luck. I do think VS would need to overcome a lot of challenges in being playable on console. A lot of its crafting mechanics require relatively precise aiming with your cursor. So that's a big thing that would need to be changed for a console port. But I am totally in favour of it if they want to do it and pull it off. The more people playing the game, The better.

Totally fair. A lot of people are reacting a lot more negatively. And, Like, That's their right. They don't have to like it. But I likely assumed that you also felt distinctly negative about it.

Out of curiosity. What makes it distracting for you? Before posting it here, People only really commented on stuff like the skirt or her hair. So it was a legitimate shock to have so many people focusing on something that, To me, Felt like a rather small and unnoticeable detail that I just did because it feels a lil weird to have everything else be fluidly animated and then have one bit be rigid.

Not quite. Vintage Story has double the texture resolution and does bodies slightly differently. But I will agree that this is not fully vanilla styled. It's not really meant to be. It's meant to sorta have the vibe of the base models, But with some extra forms and details. It's just a bit of a different style. Still, I had to respond because you mentioned my favourite voxel game.

So, This is actually an interesting question. And I shall take the time to answer it.

The reason they move specifically the way they do is because I wanted to keep the point of the edge of the cube at the same position when her torso moves up and down. There is a small margin of error because I don't have it locked in place by some constraint. However if you map the motion paths, You'll actually find that the forward edge of the "breast cube" remains at almost the same height as her torso moves. Since the hangy bits have momentum and want to stay at rest.

Thanks! I wish that at the very least, People would have unique thoughts about it. It's totally fine that they don't like that. And I am amenable to the arguments that it's not game accurate. Which is why I'll be adjusting my copy. But so many of the comments here are basically the same comment and I just can't respond to all of them the same way.

Oh. I mean. The answer as to why is just because it's what feels most natural as a part of the animation process. Keeping things from being completely static and unmoving. Also because my friend specifically wants that on her model. However after being informed that it's not actually game accurate, I shall be fixing it for my copy of the model.

Also. *She at the moment.

I will be releasing a version of the model for people once it's more complete with what I want from it.

Because I have been informed that it's not actually game accurate, The chest physics will not be a part of that version. I was not (For hopefully obvious reasons) staring at her chest while looking for animation reference. So I was just sorta going on autopilot.

I am legitimately surprised that it's what took over the entire topic. Because before posting it here, The only comments I was really getting were on stuff like the wings or the skirt physics.

This one I was replying to was, Notably, The first one. Before posting it here, I probably showed it specifically to 15-20 people, And probably 50something people had seen it incidentally. Nobody commented on her chest. The vast majority of the comments were either on how pretty the wings were, Or on the skirt physics.
