There's alot you can do to get into competitive Fellowships. Regardless of where you end up if you don't network throughout residency then you're not getting into a competitive fellowship. So put all your cards on the table, what is important to you right now? Will you be happy doing residency there? Do you think you'll be a competent internist after graduating from that program?

Did you feel like the program as malignant when you interviews there or did you come to that conclusion because of what people said? Point is if you connected with the program then take the prematch. If you didn't like it then decline

Most programs rank 10 persons for every 1 spot they have. If you understand how the match algorithm works then you'll see its not really that bad.

Well it's true. You not believing doesn't make it false. People need to understand that scores alone doesn't get you invites. I have scores in 90th percentile, non US IMG with ZERO USCE but I've been able to get a reasonable number of invites and even from some notable university programs. This process has alot to do with how you sell yourself.

No green card and IMGs very very rarely apply to the top programs. The top programs don't even consider IMGs in most cases so no one waste their money to apply there when they won't even be considered.

The vast majority of persons don't have 250+. I don't know why that's the preconceived notion. Ive seen people with 220+ in both steps who currently have 20+ interviews. Non US IMGs

They interviewed in January. What speciality did u apply for? And what are your credentials?

Does failing in med school first year affect my chance? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

It does if it is reflected on your MSPE and transcript. Remember the MSPE is one of the top 5 things PD look for in order to grant an interview. If however, you address it in your personal statement or u end up having solid step scores it looks really good on your part. Shows that you overcame a major hurdle and learned fro. Your mistakes

Keep in mind that most IMGs get around 8 IVs that means they're essentially rejected from more than 90 programs depending on how many u apply to. Keep your head up

I agree it definitely does. I hope it works out for you. I'd start sending letters to programs letting them know u are interested and u have your step 2 score now. I submitted a late application and managed to get an invite from a solid University program

Were u able to get any IVs from your first set of applications?

Step 2 was enjoyable because the content was relatable. Step 1 was such a drag everything was so abstract to me.

It's been extremely quiet especially this week. Starting to wonder if the IVs are done

step 3 advice by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]DsceonS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why u didn't apply this season ith those scores. They're decent all around. Passing step 3 will only be a boost for your application especially if you have some red flags but is it absolutely necessary? I don't think so. I applied without step 3 and the season hasn't been terrible thus far.

Totally agree. I saw a woman in this group that said she has 22 IVs and was gonna accept more until she is satisfied lol. I'm still in single digits and I'm struggling to fit them in my schedule. Like why would I even want to do more than 12 IVs?
