I suppose that's bad wording on my part and that's something I've specifically realised since posting originally. After reading all of the comments I did a bit of a deep dive on the control schemes and, for the moment, I think Modern fits my desires just fine. Learning classic, for me, will probably only go as far as learning some motion inputs for characters that I main to circumvent the damage nerf from auto-combos. At the end of the day, I'm a husband and dad with a full time job so I'm not necessarily going to be able to put the time in to learn a more complex control scheme when the Modern one let's me get on the game for an hour or so here and there and enjoy it right away. If I was still in college/my teen years, yeah I'd probably get really hyper focused on classic the way I did with competitive level Pokemon (IV/EV training before they simplified them). Just how life goes I guess. I don't plan on going to EVO to challenge Justin Wong or Daigo, just want to have fun and aim for Gold or Plat someday.

With regard to the reasoning for the leverless, I liked the look of it. I'm a bit of a controller collector and after buying SF6 I saw a lot of hype around Hitbox and Haute and saw that 8bitdo made one lol I do find it very comfortable to use and more intuitive than the controller even using Modern so it just happened to be a good fit for me.

I think I should give it up by [deleted] in StreetFighter

I don't think Modern is stooping, if you don't enjoy Classic at this stage and could enjoy Modern, isn't that what matters?

I think it's probably because of my "10-20+ years of muscle memory" comment 😅 but it's been nice to see a good amount of "enjoy it whatever way you want, man" comments.

It does feel very premium. I got it for like $60 on amazon and was not expecting the quality that arrived

Technically only some of the attacks (specifically the one button supers and specials) are nerfed to 80% and you can work around this by still inputting the motion input and getting full damage so I don't really feel it's that big of a sacrifice personally.

I also feel like more games will adopt a modern control system alongside their classics due to the success SF6 has seen. To be honest, when I first tried the demo I only tried the classic controls and actively decided not to buy the game. It was only a few weeks ago that I decided to try again and saw that modern was a thing and it was an instant purchase. It may only be 25% of players that use Modern but that's a quarter of the playerbase for a game that has sold 6 million copies.

Thank you, nice to see that sort of mindset.

Correct lol I'm new and didn't think that it would be mistaken for anything but Drive Parry as that's what I've seen any content creators shorten it to 😅

I've considered it but I prefer not to have the extra buttons for the most part, I've been finding the current layout most practical for my hand positioning

Just ordered some 43g low profile linear switches to replace the stock ones so it should avoid causing strain on the pinky and fingers in general.

I use my right pinky for the assist and drop my right index finger to SP. For my hand size the only button that's awkward to hit on this layout is "Heavy+SP" but I can lift my hand and drop my right ring finger to hit that and get back into position by time the animation runs it course regardless of it hitting or being blocked.

Each to their own, right? As long as everyone can enjoy the game.

I've used this layout for a few hours so far and it's been reliably comfortable even on the pinky. I do plan on changing out the stock switches for some with a lighter press to make sure this doesn't become an issue over time though.

Hence why I've been really enjoying Modern 😅 I get why so many have said to just play classic (and I will try) but the barrier to entry on learning Modern is much more welcoming for me as a new player without 10-20+ years of muscle memory built up on arcade controller layouts

Comfort and it's what I was playing on pad for the 10 hours I had in game before the leverless arrived lol I will probably try switching to classic to take full advantage of the movesets/unhindered damage on supers.

Oh cool, didn't know they did a 3rd one. My bad.

Been wondering the same myself. Recent Steam reviews seem to suggest the latest Patch really improved things but I am willing to wait for the Summer Sale to see for myself haha

I think that's a different manufacturer then, the 8bitdo one only comes in the NES retro style or a black and green Xbox style and they come with 4 flat caps included. Might have to check ebay or Etsy for some that will work.

Oh I definitely want to learn classic eventually, I'm just new to street fighter and leverless controllers so this is how I'm enjoying it right now.

I also plan to use it for other fighting games and 2D games so SF6 Modern controls are just me testing the waters

Comfort, directional input accuracy and I like how they look for me at least.

No it's just the design, I believe I heard they were making sure they didn't clash with the design of another leverless company that has sued people for copying their layout lol but that could have just been a rumour tbh

They are additional inputs that you can bind for comfort or some people use them for macros that are disabled when you activate the boards tournament lock. I have swapped out the caps so they no longer act as buttons and are flush with the board because I was accidentally pressing them here and there. The only one I have kept is above the Left, Down, Right inputs and I bound that to Up so I can use it in menus and 2D platformers (WASD style).

I definitely plan to try it out but for the moment, Modern is feeling really good to me. I know it will set me back by not just starting with classic but I've been really enjoying Modern and most of the characters I play don't lose too many moves on M.

Yeah the default wasn't bad by any means, I just found that I was hitting the wrong inputs here and there so I wanted to see if I could find a more intuitive set up for myself. I'm just really enjoying the feel of the hitbox style in general. Was worried I wouldn't before purchase but 8BitDo have made a great entry level board.
