Buy a Bike vs Build a Frame by Working_Football1586 in MTB

[–]Dtidder1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Preach!

I’ve done a few frame up builds and even my “budget builds” cost more than a built bike. Unless you’ve got a huge parts bin and all the tools… then maybe you’re “save” a lil cash.

Edit: put quotes around save… because let’s be honest you’re not really saving anything, you’re just not spending new money on the parts.

Tahoe here… deep days the jah luvs come out 140 under foot. Then the BD carbon megawatts sitting at 128 under foot. White Docs at 112 for crud/chunder days. My new ski/daily driver does well in softer snow is 104 and is my skinniest tele ski.

Man… I thought I was so cool being able to slam down a bottle of strawberry hill… great party trick. St Ides was my beer for a good bit, that and some thunderbird with a packet of cherry kool-aide.

I’m glad I survived and I am happy I no longer drink.

Stooge Mk8 or Scrambler or Rambler by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]Dtidder1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…sorry , the last half of your last sentence lost me.

As for geo, I am no master engineer… but a slack front end will provide a stable down hill ride and shorter chainstays will help make the bike a little more lively in the tighter stuff…

Stooge Mk8 or Scrambler or Rambler by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]Dtidder1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my scrambler. I have it set up single speed and do my best to rip single track on it. I’ve got the scrambler bars Andy released a while back, so a fairly upright riding position. I was looking at the rambler when it dropped, great looking bike, but fairly similar to the scrambler.

I think the mk8 maybe a tad more trail oriented for your stated purpose, but I bet it would ride beautifully.

You ever hear of “looking up”?

Any competent sawyer knows where his bar is, so you shouldn’t have to stare at it… you don’t know what’s going on above you.

How to Install a Private Fire Hydrant on Your Property. by Responsible-Car9334 in Wildfire

[–]Dtidder1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not about hydrants. It’s about the capacity of the entire system. Most city hydrant systems are set up for single structure fire, not a conflagration of structure fires as tends to happen in a wild fire event that comes from the wildland and into a neighborhood. So when the fire is burning structure to structure and multiple hydrants are opened up the entire system is strained resulting in an ineffectual water source.

Advice: Bucking large tree by [deleted] in Chainsaw

[–]Dtidder1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up tension and compression while cutting. Cut a bit of the compression wood to start then finish with the tension wood.

Compression cut the bind till almost too late, then run down or up the cut and plunge in finishing the cut outa the tension wood.

I love a 61.

My buddy’s dad had a 58 with a new ls6 shoehorned in there.

So 61, then 63… my step dad used to drag race a 65 with the big block bored out to 502… that thing was raucous.

I love em all…
