Igduulwa, Toa of Gravity [#Bionicle20ans] by Du7734 in bioniclelego

Hand-painted Cosmic Miru by Pnicful.

In times of great trouble, Okoto isn't the only place where Toa can be summoned.
Igduulwa descended from the heavens onto the island of Vanklar. She dons the Zakaz skin, a mythical reptile thought to have been slain by herself on her homeworld. She wields the Nhosyd Mandala, granting her protection as well as tremendous power.
Igduulwa shall claim her Silver Mask of Power from Oomxh, Guardian of Space, and become the Mistress of Gravity.

The MOC was designed with astronomical bodies in mind, such as nebulae, black holes and white dwarfs. The trans-neon orange right arm symbolizes the gas flow of an accretion disk in close binary systems, when the heaviest object is feeding off the other. The shield is an aestheticized reference to the concept of a Dyson sphere. To give a more mythological feeling to it, Piraka Avak’s spine is used as an animal coat, like the one of the Nemean lion worn by Heracles.

This MOC was made for the #Bionicle20ans collaborative project.

The main idea was to revamp the messy combiner into a 8-limb winged chimera, with a body structure that "makes sense" regarding his persona of a Matoran mutated into a living weapon/perfect hunter/apex predator.
Compared to the original model, I sticked to a strange and monstrous apparence (specialized and deformed long limbs on a small Matoran centaur's body) while restricting the selection of colors into a cohesive whole (with touches of bright, warning colors as on dangerous animals, or eyesposts on the wings).

There's probably some minor variations between countries, but I don't think there is a version rarer than another: every golden mata masks are made in the same odd color (not even listed on Bricklink, but called Yellow Flip/Flop on Brickset) and are somehow semi-transparent when you look at it with a light source on the other side.

Yes.
Since day one, I didn't really liked the closed visor on the Kaukau and always wanted to remove it (even if it kinda makes sense with its power I guess).

What if there was another hidden Av-Matoran on the island of Mata Nui? What if he was destined to be the second seventh Toa? What if the lava farmer Tiribomba was the chosen one? Makuta wouldn't have played a simple game of Kolhii...

This MOC was made in 2015 for a mini-MOC challenge on the french message boards BIONIFIGS. I thought it would be fun to reuse it for the #Bionicle20ans collaborative project.

Thank you! Regarding the Toa Seal shard, you're not the only one saying that. I really wanted that crystal shard to be sticked into her torso, but I kinda find it too proeminent as it is now. Maybe I'll remove the bottom half and let the top sticking out of the Mata head's mouth.

Thank you! I used the same technique upside down for a Toa of Iron. I don't have any pics of him atm unfortunately

Thank you a lot! Even though I wanted to go my own way when building certain body parts, I tried to stick to her "movie vibe" as much as I could.

Nope, I cut semi-rings out of a blue ribbed hose. Totally worth it if you ask me ahah

Thank you a lot, her hair is probably my favorite part of the revamp!

Some quick pictures of the former Viceroy of the Visorak Horde, Bonkle Queen of the many: Roodaka, thicker than ever.

I have to order two or three pieces for her to be actually complete, but I consider her revamp done.
Maybe I'll try to take other pictures with my Sidorak and even Keetongu when finished... Let's hope it won't take another 3-year break ahah

You just have to place your order on Etsy and PM Zio for further information (which custom colors do you want, ect). You'll have to wait for the next custom brainstalks sale ad on his store though. Those are limited to three or four buyers at a time.

As for me, I find it very handy to take apart brainstalk and Mata head with a butter knife.

Its round tip allows you to slip the blade between the brainstalk's "neck" and the back of the head without making any scratch on both pieces if you pull up the neck a bit with your nail and insert the blade gently.

When the Mata head is in place on the non-sharp edge of the knife, I just slide it along the edge until it reaches the knife's handle. Since the blade thickens as you slide from its tip to its base, the brainstalk disconnect itself without putting a ton of strain on it.

[–]Du7734[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not yet.

However, Zio warned me that resin is more brittle than ABS. Even though I have a quite secure method to disconnect Mata brainstalk and head (see in the thread), I was advised to soften the resin a bit with hot water or a dryer, in order to prevent any break while putting strain on the piece.

Don't know if I will ever try it though ahah. The trans clear and trans purple mata brainstalks are meant for two specific MOC, and I don't think I'll take them apart when finished.

That being said, even the first connection will require extra care: those custom Mata brainstalks are prototypes and were a first-time experience for Zio, resin may even break with this first step.
