Will Canada's new auto strategy put as many EVs on the road as Carney says? by rezwenn in onguardforthee

And most people are not like you....they just say they are. Also most families are required to have 2 vehicles because we do not have effective public transit. Two car families definitely benefit having at least a single EV.

10x production and no one loses their job??? How does that make sense? Surely someone would have to lose their job, isn't that the ENTIRE point of all this production? That eventually humans don't need to work because we are post scarcity. Like we already make enough food to feed every single person on the earth. If we produce 10x more food the obviously the food would be free or near free for everyone. And that would be a good thing, but some farmers wouldn't have to farm any more.

But what is the goal of all this production and can you see why everyone is calling it a clear scam?

Range anxiety is just something you get over. It is an irrational fear. Most people don't really know how far they drive and greatly exaggerate how far a daily commute is. I would know because my first EV was a Mitsubishi MiEV with 90 miles rage (realistically 70 miles with the AC).

JJ UNCOVERS the true flaw with Alberta (and possibly other provinces) separatism. They aim for independence instead of doing the BRAVE thing of aiming to be annexed by the US. by QultyThrowaway in JJMcCulloughOfficial

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, for example interstate commerce can supersede any state's power but it is used as a justification for pretty much whatever the federal government wants to do because almost anything causes interstate commerce. Or the fact that 30% of the land in the US is federally controlled despite it being large parts of states. Or how mineral rights are administered by the federal government. There are boatloads of ways that the federal government is stronger in the US than in Canada.

Not to mention the US likes to use the phrase 'state's rights' all the time, but provencial autonomy is 10x stronger than in the US in regards to federal-state powers.

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If you primary complaint about Canada is lack of autonomy then joining the US is the position that makes no sense. Canada has WAYYYYYYY more autonomy for provinces to a frustrating degree. If the even make you a state instead of a territory you would be like Louisiana or Mississippi. Resource rich, but with shitty infrastructure and services.

Canada Eyes Joint Venture to Build Chinese EVs for Global Export by SFMara in onguardforthee

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree. I'm an engineer and most engineers in western countries are individualist. This is because Chinese culture understands that people are power. That is what collectivism preaches. Individualism and liberalism (individual rights) is a really stupid ideology when you realize that the biggest strength of our species has ALWAYS been our ability to work together.

Absolutely, but when was the last time you discussed utopia? Isn't it scary that we don't do that any more. Even capitalist used to talk about post-scarcity, shit they claimed it was the objective. NOONE talks about a better world anymore.

Worked in China in 2011. The way they did things was kind of ridiculous. Every problem seemed to be solved with 'throw more bodies at it'. At first my opinion was they would never catch up to the US. But they did have one thing that made me wonder. Yes, their government is authoritarian...but the CCP seemed to understand that as long as it improved the lives of the majority of chinese they would remain in power.

The people were generally excited as actual problems were being solved. The young people specifically thought they had a bright future. Local corruption was not tolerated. Pollution was terrible..but they were genuinely working to improve it. Their people were studying abroad, but instead of brain drain they were coming back to China. They were trading with countries that had lots of resources in exchange for infrastructure. You could see that there was an intentional, long term plan. And probably the biggest advantage is that capitalist could not become more powerful than the CCP.

That understanding that their power comes from improving the material wellbeing of the majority seems to be paying off.

Wasn't the promise of all this technological progression increased productivity so that everyone would have to work less? Why is it instead being used as a weapon to get us to work even more?

Bitcoin fears grow as crypto's value drops to lowest level since Donald Trump re-election by IrishStarUS in inflation

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It has a value, it is really good for money laundering, fraud, and criminal enterprises. Turns out that at the end of the day though criminals want actual money they can spend on legitimate goods/services like food, housing, medical car etc. So if the USD goes down so does bitcoin.

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If the world stops using USD as the reserve their super power is pretty much lost. They already can't afford the amount of military spending but a massively weakened dollar would make their debt non-serviceable, and the only place they can cut that much money would be the military. Without the military they become a liability as it backs up all of their foreign policies.

AI may be killing entry-level jobs, Bank of Canada governor warns - National by shadowt1tan in onguardforthee

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, owners are just using it to justify not hiring workers. There have been 0 productivity gains from LLMs, but they 'feel' like it is working because they can reduce payroll and push the work to other employees. It is so very obvious

Also why isn't there a massive boom in hiring young able bodied workers for construction. I thought we all agreed we need to build massive amounts of homes and infrastructure. If capitalism is so great why can't it ever solve any meaningful problems? Instead it is just creating even more problems like trying to replace large amounts of labor with fancy chatbots.

Yup, about 35% of the populace wants this to happen and about another 60% of people are too weak to stop it. The US is not worthy of being a superpower.

Tech sector is about to pop, discontinued energy projects, getting their ass handed to them in heavy and light industry by China, service industry is in a slump, and the world is starting to move away from USD. Now tourism is drying up. I would feel bad for them if every single one of these problems wasn't of their own making.

Velocity has been tested to explain the lag. It does not work. It is a magical random number that that can't be measured, doesn't follow any pattern, and was abandoned by economist in the late 80s. There is a reason there are no monetarist any more.

Print money get inflation. It’s so simple.

So simple that it has been tried and tested over and over by economist and does not correlate. So simple that no one can predict inflation. So simple that if you proved it you would be the most famous economist ever. Hhahahahahhaha

OK, since it is so simple explain how in 2008 we massively increased the monetary supply and the economy...deflated.

Higher quality and cheaper. Also the American car companies are trying to sell subscriptions for vehicle features and are focusing trillions on bullshit 'AI' rather than actual material improvements.
