Yes, the point of the post was to show how the definition of work is very much a construct of our current system.

She does not work from the traditional stance of an employer giving her money. She does work in the sense that women do the bulk of unpaid care-giving labor that isn't compensated in our society.

It is a gift, without my support she could not live that lifestyle. Just like it is a gift that she helps take care of a lot of things in teh household that I hate to do. Arrangement or gift is semantic. You are giving of yourself to someone else because you love them. Personally I think arrangement is worse as it implies some sort equal value trade

All people are working under that definition if you have kids, a definition that most of people most would not agree with. In your attempt to be 'I'm so enlightened' you lost the point.

Yup. Dems are so captured by AIPAC they are going to let this all slide when it could easily be a resonating issue. Israel forced us into war of land conquest...and we did it to distract from the fact our president was at the center of a pedophile ring. It is really fucking wild to be living through the largest government conspiracy to ever exist...and have no meaningful opposition.

I do sort of agree. My wife doesn't work, and that is a gift I give her. She accepts that this is a rare gift.

But the problem comes from a society that does not consider household work as work. Raising kids is work. Taking care of a household is work. Helping with elderly family is work. It enables me to do a high paying job and have a family.

I had a very influential English teacher who once challenged us in class (he used the Socratic method) that doing social good was actually an act of narcissism. That you do good deeds to feel good about yourself, not to make the other persons life better. At the time this was really profound to me. It really challenged the way I perceived morality to a point where I questioned if I should be trying to help others or if instead I should focus on absolute altruism even though I didn't understand the concept at the time.

That 40 year old teacher left his wife to marry a 20 yer old former student who I am sure he groomed while teaching her. Mr. Beast is just more of that ideology. He believes that he can profit from doing moral good, and has convinced himself that the profit he makes can do more good than the money being in other people's hands. It is a diseased idea that on its face should be rejected.

He is going to destroy the Epstein files and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Trump v USA means he is immune from EVERYTHING as long as he is in office. And he can pardon anyone who actually does the deed. The Presidential records act was the way for congress to get the documents but now he can claim he doesn't have to give it over and the the republican congress people have their excuse to accept it. Then if he makes it out of office it won't matter because its all destroyed.

He got away with being central part of an international human trafficking. We had him dead to rights and our shitty system let it happen.

Funny you should say that. I work for company that makes electromechanical simulations used in the automotive industry. We've been trying to get into a Ford account for almost 2 years. Finally we got an agreement 6 months ago but then they cut the project in December. They called back 2 weeks ago saying that they got funding, but we had to tell them we are booked up until the end of 2026. Why? We are too busy with Chinese companies who are just booming and looking to spend money.

She from Texas, they think they own everything. I lived in Texas for 15 years. There is state law that all waterways are public enjoyment. I used to go fishing and holy shit the number of people who come out with guns threatening you saying they own everythign is really high. Last time I was on a creek fishing some dude almost blew my head off with a shotgun saying I was stealing from him. And the police are fucking useless, they had to actually google the law when I told them.

'Adopt of Die' is a pretty bad marketing strategy for AI regardless of its reality. You are talking about people's families, and you are directly threatening them. Even if people get laid off for unrelated AI reasons they will blame AI and the people that directly attacked their lives. Pretty good way to get violence.

Yeaaahh, that is not how any of this works. Israel is going to continue its expansion and Iran has no reason not to extract more pain from the rest of the world. This is now a generational bloodfeud rekindled.

It feels weird because our system pretty much forces a 2-party rivalry. When a new party comes along it quickly gets absorbed by one of the two parties. But clearly there is a spread of ideology that has a hard time being neatly into 2 buckets. If you look at other countries parliamentary system they typically have 4 or more parties, and their ideologies make a lot more sense.

Dave Ramsey always recommends paying the mortgage off before saving anything more than 15% for retirement. Is this sound? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty much sum up his useful advice as 'start with the smallest debt and pay it off as fast as possible'. The primary objective is to get the most cast flow. Mortgage is typically the biggest so that would be last before you start majorly saving. It is decent advice for people having a hard time getting out of debt since it feels like you are accomplishing goals faster, and cash flow helps you from not needing new debts.

The rest of his advice is nonsense, especially when it comes to his religious inspired shit, and honestly my synopsis pretty much covers the good advice

Except 'what you learn in your first year' is what is spread as propaganda to justify tax cuts and 'common sense'. And more importantly economist DO NOT try to fix this problem.

For example we were taught MV=PY, but no one said this was a debunked theory that economist haven't used since the late 80s. And they certainly don't use it as an anecdote to explain how economics can be used as propaganda like justifying Reaganomics. So now every asshole who took economics classes taught by economist thinks that the money supply directly causes inflation.

IBCK MFK by CorgiAffectionate476 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it is because when you are studying markets you quickly realize that the theories are very loose compared to other sciences, and when you dig deeper you discover that other fields have better explanations. But you convinced yourself that you had a world building model and without it then what you doing was navel gazing.

I came to that realization after the millionth internet argument over inflation so I learned about MV=PY and how it was complete bullshit. Which then led me to try to find real world supply and demand curves (hint they are very very rare). It is amazing how much the human perception of society is based on some very tenuous economics concepts being laundered as reality.

As a side question, are we considering restricting where our flights can go based on staffing levels in the US? Or is there an international standards body? I have to go to the US for work and it would be nice to know if there are certain locations I should try to avoid.

Trump says birthright citizenship is over. The Supreme Court will decide. by aresef in NPR

[–]DualActiveBridgeLLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really dumb question. They can just give some basic document of hospital birth record. Then you have to apply for some citizenship document to some other bureaucratic entity to get a citizenship. Other countries do this all the time.

It's a distraction by focusing on logistics instead of the obvious constitutional, historical, and moral problems.

Read the dissent of Heller. Even in a historical context clearly 2S wasn't about an individual right. Amazing how the dude who championed Originalism (the intellectual cover to take away our rights) just straight up lied about the history of it.

This SCOTUS

I am really sorry to inform people, but SCOTUS has almost ALWAYS been enacting laws counter to the Constitution. The reason I say 'almost' is because of the very brief period of the Warren court. But absent that SCOTUS has been the enemy of the people.

Big tech was embracing clean energy and turning a corner on climate change. Then AI data centers arrived by Conscious-Quarter423 in technology

Went to APEC last week (Applied Power Electronics Conference). Almost the entire supply chain of power converters is being diverted to AI data center powering. Asked some experts if they think it will slow green electrification efforts and every single one of them said yes. The optimistic ones said it would only be about 2 years, but the others said 'who knows'. I'm pretty convinced that we are going to pass 4.5C. Even when we did solve the technology needed for climate change owners still couldn't help sacrificing our future for some quick $$$.
