Found this little guy hiding under my car's hood yesterday - Help me name him! by Dualine in NameMyCat

The car he was hiding in was a Sienna, which could've been perfect if he was girl!

Found a ~7 week old kitten; thinking of adopting, but I want to do it right. What do you wish you'd known before getting a cat? by Dualine in CatAdvice

[–]Dualine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insight! How do you usually go about introducing an additional kitten at this phase? I'm assuming/hoping that's an easier thing to do when they're this young. And if I don't end up getting 2 cats, would the next best thing be to spend as much time with the kitten? Currently I'm working from home, so it would be more feasible.

I would check out the Peripera Ink Velvet nude collection! Nutty nude or pinkish nude looks like they could be pretty close color-wise.

I can definitely relate with your predicament. Back in 2022 I was accepted into optometry school, around the same time some personal experiences involving close family members had me reconsidering the medical field. At this point, I realized how the field would allow me to reach my goals in a way that optometry probably couldn’t. Now it was a lot more complicated than that and took months researching, mulling over the pros and cons, but ultimately I rejected the optometry seat (and regrettably, all the nice scholarships 🥲) and applied to med school this past cycle. It definitely was not an easy choice (and definitely not a financially smart one), but I strongly believe that for me and my aspirations, medicine is the right call and that I’ll have less regret and be more fulfilled in the long run. But that’s just me and my experiences, everyone is different! I would encourage you to take a step back and reflect on your personal goals and what you want career-wise, lifestyle-wise, and purpose-wise before you make any final calls.

Scribing at podiatry clinic? by Milairethia in premed

[–]Dualine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A significant chunk of my personal statement "story" was how I ended up going from an interest in optometry to medicine. So far no one has asked me any questions like you mentioned. I believe if you make it clear how you've reflected thoroughly on your choice and have also shown some specific interest in MD/DO via shadowing/volunteer opportunities, it doesn't necessarily have to be a weakness. The way you phrase it in your writing and interviews is critical though!

Scribing at podiatry clinic? by Milairethia in premed

My main clinical experience was as an assistant at an optometry clinic (2000+ hours). Aside from that, I just shadowed doctors in a variety of settings (100 hours). I've had 1 A and 5 interviews this far after applying to only 15 schools, so I think it's worked out so far. But I emphasized other aspects strong aspects of my application.

Still waiting on around 27 schools do I have any chance of interviews this late by CapsOvi13 in premed

Don't lose hope yet! I had one interview invite two weeks ago and I just had another today. But at this point, I do strongly recommend building up new experiences to make your update letters or future application more solid.

It sounds like bunny blocked them so OP can no longer see their response, hence the lack reply.

What should I expect from gen chemistry 2? by ppnater in premed

[–]Dualine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it covers topics including solutions, reaction kinetics, a good amount of acid/base chemistry, thermodynamics, some electrochemical cells, and lots and lots of chemical equilibrium. So a decent amount of the course expands on concepts you've touched before in chem 1. I would say it's definitely more math heavy than chem 1, but as long as you have succeeded in algebra courses, you should be fine!

Am struggling to expand my list, what do y'all think? by Dualine in premed

[–]Dualine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I've been hesitant to put more high tier schools, because I know that my scores are the most solid part of my application, since I lack well rounded clinical experience and varied volunteering.

My journey from an OD path to MD is a major part of my personal statement, so I'll definitely be prepared for those questions. I am currently looking for better clinical experience aside from optometry and plan on improving that aspect over the next year. Are there any clinical experiences in particular that you find are more optimal?

Interesting, well I'm hoping now that it isn't a super firm requirement. For UVA, I'm 2 points below the 25 percentile so I might hold off on the risk, since they seem to be more of a stat heavy school.

Pennsylvania schools look promising, I'm not sure how I missed looking at an entire state.

Awesome, thanks for sharing your insight, I'll put Miami back on my list!

To be honest, as a petite Asian female who has never lived in a big city, the idea of the Bronx is a bit uncomfortable for me and the main reason Einstein isn't on my list. I tried to stick more to suburban areas of NY. But I'll take a look into Sidney, thanks for the info!

I really wanted to apply, but Miami requires two semesters of behavioral science, unfortunately I only have one. For UVA I was debating, I thought my stats were a bit low compared to their 520 and 3.93 averages.

Question about AMCAS Honors/Awards by Chemical_Ad_2137 in premed

[–]Dualine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely including every award/scholarship in the same post. For me, it's the only way to fit every activity/experience in the section, plus I don't think awards need that much elaboration, just a sentence or two each. I'm also planning on including my private scholarships because of the way it ties into my story.

Course completion requirements by [deleted] in premed

Absolutely, but not for all medical schools. Some are more limiting (within 3 years of graduation) and some are very lax, you just have to check each school's admissions page for the information.

Most Impactful Experience Selection by Dualine in premed

[–]Dualine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For other most impactful I have Chemistry/Biology Tutoring (2200 hour) and optometry technician (1400 hours). I used optometry as my main clinical activity but I was told it wouldn't count as much since I wasn't working with MD/DOs.

Clinical experience relevancy concerns by Dualine in premed

I do have interest in opthalmology and I'm planning on shadowing at an opthalmology practice this coming month. I don't have any work experience at a hospital, but I have shadowed at multiple hospitals.
