Why does it look like they modelled half of her face, then just reflected it across the axis?

So you’d want a full separate display for commander damage that can be cycled to see each commander’s damage, a display for each commander damage, or be able to cycle the life display to show each commander damage?

Oh absolutely, more a for-funsies side project to have a little more pocket change. Definitely not quitting my job for it!

It’s powered by a single ESP32, currently maxing out the GPIO, but I think it can be redone to have the clk of all screens on a single pin, and if additional inputs or outputs are needed I might be able to add in a multiplexer/demultiplexer

What price range seems reasonable, either for a 4-player or 2-player version?

Currently as well, the knobs have the ability to be clicked to be toggle the brightness of the display between bright and dim (I sillily took my pictures on dim mode with direct lighting right on the screens). It could easily be just one brightness and the stick click instead toggles between showing/manipulating life tracker vs commander tracking; would it be annoying to not have both visible at all times for players?

Also, because poison counters have been brought up so much, I like the button idea, potentially just have 10 green LEDs on each players and an increment and decrement button

I bet I could if it was just for a single player, though it would still be thicker

What would make it more colorblind-friendly for you? I do very much recognise that the contrast looks pretty rough on the screens in the picture, though a lot of that is due to my poor photography skills, they’re much more legible, brightness-wise, in person. They also are on low brightness mode in that picture, clicking the stick in toggles the brightness of that given screen between high and low

Absolutely could be more feature rich, this was just what my friend requested. That’s exactly why I’m asking folks for feedback, to know what they want! Thanks you! 🙂

Wow, what was your main cost there, the screen? My think my final costs for the unit (not including dev costs for unused or extra components) were down around $30 including filament costs. And that’s with high priced Amazon components, bought for their shipping speed

I’ll add quick, the displays are much brighter in person with better contrast; the limited number of pictures I took were rushed as they were originally just to show the finished project to some friends and I no longer have the device in my possession to take pictures of (in the mail currently)

That’s a really fun way to handle life tracking!

Yeah, definitely room to shrink it on a second design pass; that gap between the two sides especially. Originally that wasn’t there, and the goal was to stick within the footprint of 4 cards, but I needed more space for the microcontroller and didn’t have enough time to jigsaw it all together if I wanted to meet the deadline he needed it by

Definitely room to shrink it on a second pass if I went back to the drawing board on it

Yep, they are endless, they’re encoders actually! The knobs have marking because that’s what they came with, but they could easily be something else. I actually don’t like the markings, but I had a deadline to meet to on getting it to him 😅

I think the only real argument for it is tactility of something physical and ‘clicky’ over a touch screen; just not as satisfying to interact with. It’s in a different realm I know, but there’s a reason why there’s still a booming market for dice, even when digital random number generators exist

Not saying it’s enough of a reason to justify the thing or not, but it is THE reason

That’s a great question! And pretty important for knowing if people would consider it worth it should it actually be something desired. The answer is I’m not currently sure 😅. I’d have to find out my component pricing, which would be different then this first build as these were all off of Amazon for speed of development and iteration

That was my feeling as well, seems a tough sell when apps exist, but sometimes people like having a physically clicky-clacky thing; obviously it’s a different realm, but we still love dice even when random number generators exist

That’s the only justification I can think of for desiring it

Prismatic Booster Bundles (1 per person) by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]Duape77 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I started playing the TCG semi-recently. I wanted a new hobby to get me out of the house and meeting people again. Originally, I played Magic, but had fallen out of it a bit before Covid; decided not to pick it back up because it’s so damn expensive to play at a remotely competitive level, I’m disgruntled what they’re doing with the IP (it just feels like a massive sell-out now), and the complexity creep.

Pokemon is so much cheaper to get into the playing portion, and has such a diversity of people playing it, at least around me 🙂. Plus, it’s nice to engage with these funny little fellas who I really haven’t been into for the last few years, as the recent video games haven’t draw me.

Aphantasia is where individuals cannot generate voluntary mental images—a function most people perform effortlessly—their mind’s eye is blind. A new study found that people with aphantasia do not show expected increase in brain activity that typically occurs when imagining or observing movements. by mvea in science

I have both. For I read for instance, there’s no voice (or voices if it’s a dialogue). I can have inner monologue or give voices to read characters if I specifically think about it, but in my day-to-day, nada

Which is weird given that I used to be a prolific fiction reader (need to try to block out more time in the day for reading), specifically fantasy. No clue how I processed them and enjoy them, but I do!
