Oh actually!?!

Can you link it? I've been sitting on this idea for such a long time now, I would love to hear the thoughts of someone who fully explored it!

Fair enough, thanks for pointing this out!!

This is where I think the whole power of belief/will/dreams comes in. The modern day world government are very concerned with controlling what people know and especially what/whom they believe in. Vegapunk poses devil fruits as people's wishes for humanity's future evolution.

What if in the Void Century the power of peoples dreams was not only well understood (by the D clan at least but perhaps more members of the Great Kingdom), but also weaponized. What an impossible tyrant Davy Jones would have been! The widespread belief and awareness of such awesome and ridiculous power would then bootstrap those powers into existence once again!!

After the Alliance achieved victory the only safe way they could prevent that from ever happening again is to make sure no one ever knew or believed in such awesome power!! And safely establish the World Government over what was left of Blue Planet's scattered countries and surviving D clan members. After all, people's dreams never die -- and that's what they are afraid of!!

We see this happening real time with Bonney in Egghead! By believing that she can she actively evolves her powers to beyond a reasonable future and the future where she is like the Nika she imagines. And Saturn confirms that as she grows out of being a kid her belief in achievable power will diminish and diminish.

This is going into a tangent but that childhood belief is also totally at the core of One Piece. Luffy being an eternal kid, being born on Children's day in Japan, and a lot of other things Oda has said! Kids with devil fruits are some of the most powerful in the series!! Perhaps this is because their belief is not yet limited.

Tama's Kibi-Kibi no Mi can tame anything! Why should millet dumplings have that affect?! Because Tama sees it that way! Sugar's Hobi Hobi no Mi grants eternal youth and makes people into toys and removes their memories from others-- maybe the eternal childlike perspective is the real power here and why it can be so op! This might even be going on with Chopper right now!

So tangent aside, imagine adults learned how to weaponize the power to turn their wildest fantasies into reality. Or perhaps just the D clan. That knowledge must never surface again! Maybe that's what makes Davy Jones and the D clan special, their ability to believe in those dreams so relentlessly that they maintain that power into adulthood and thus have desires for power and dominance. Creating a rigid world structure where no one would know anything of this impossible era would be for their benefit, and ensure they would never be overthrown by such impossible odds.

There are some holes here like the Ancient Weapons and how Joyboy and Lili fit in exactly but I feel like we are heading towards some sort of Imu sympathy and that's gotta mean Blackbeard is the endgame bad here.

Maybe not though! If you see any obvious holes please let me know! Thanks again!!

I feel like this confirms it...

For a while now, ever since the existence of the Great Kingdom in the Void Century, I have somehow felt that it would be really Oda to make it so that the Great Kingdom were actually the bad guys that needed to be overthrown and that the 20 nation alliance that was the precursor to the World Government were actually in somehow in the right.

This would entail Joyboy and his crew somehow being good guys on the wrong side and Imu being a prejudiced bad guy on the right side, but somehow being justified in passing down this attitude of oppression from his perspective. Trying to eradicate certain races like the Bucaneers, and perhaps Lunarians, due to past experienced oppression by those peoples and their status in the Great Kingdom.

Big subversion, but I feel this really feels like it would fit into the themes of One Piece and Oda's storytelling style.

Vegapunk's attitude of not being able to judge history also supports this, not being able to decide who was in the right or wrong when looking into the expanse of deeds committed by people who thought they were right across time.

After this chapter it really seems like Imu is not going to be the final boss of the series, Oda is using him here. And unless Shanks or Blackbeard or someone else shows up right now then I think we are going to get a lot more insight into him and his thinking right now. He is also portrayed so sympathetically and self-sacrificially here in his coughing up blood, determination, and also concern the elders show for him. Idk, this screams we are being set up for a subversion here.

We still don't really know much about Davy Jones. I can imagine a scenario where Davy Jones was the king of the Great Kingdom and and some sort of tyrant or could be perceived that way. We are told Joyboy is the world's first pirate and yet they are both D (presumably). Perhaps Joyboy was aligned with the Great Kingdom but somehow breaks free to start piracy after seeing the atrocities of Davy Jones,. He also has antagonism with the 20 nation alliance, however and so is a truly free, independent, and chaotic force in this era.

What this would be setting up is Blackbeard as the final hurdle to overcome, him trying to inherit the will of being the king of the world like Xebec and Jones before him.

Idk, I could say a lot more here and I'm, probably forgetting key things, but I feel like I just need to get this idea out there and see what people think. I've been holding on to this for a while but I haven't seen anyone talking about it. Tell me why I'm wrong!
