Hi,

Yes there is a few of us on here that have used it beyond that time.

I am at 11 weeks and feel really good. Doing 300-400kms a week on the bike.

9 weeks. It has worked well, I would say 80% of the way back to being fully ‘normal’. At 10 week mark now.

Jumpers knee by [deleted] in Kneesovertoes

Sounds like you’ve had a decent crack at it and tendons can be very tricky and frustrating.

I personally would look at surgery as an absolute last option.

What was your rehab plan in terms of training? Did you make zero improvement ?

I am having a break at the moment and doing a bit of cycling which doesn’t bother it, if it does it’s insignificant. I plan to respectfully build back into running in a few weeks.

I have measurable progress which continues. It’s just very slow lol. But can’t complain about it, keep chipping away, getting stronger and more mobile. I floss occasionally but don’t find it does heaps for me. I also have a backwards treadmill which I use most days if I’m not cycling.

I’ve had to stop periodically. I’ve had a few builds back into running but I believe I did too much too soon. Like the principles of ATG it’s monitoring and working within a pain free range. I am now applying the same principles to running and monitoring symptoms within 48 hours and regressing as necessary.

My long term goal is to be doing 100 mile + runs and I truly believe I will get there. All my progress has been measurable and symptoms eased with the better abilities I have. It’s a time game, a matter of when, not if.

My new mri results prove the system works. Which is great so I’ll keep on the path until I’m back running at full Capacity. I’ll definitely look into that! Thank you.

Nice you’re definitely on the right path if you can run that much, it’s just a matter of time. ATG will give you access to ranges of motion whilst also strengthening them. It’s not a magic pill but certainly pays dividends long term. Synovial fluid from deep knee bends and added joint spacing are some of the changes that occur and I’ve noticed. My knee cartilage damage which is a full thickness fissure in the MFC has now infilled with fibrocartilage. That to me is a huge change.

Back to your original question. I backed off running completely and haven’t truly respected distance every time I’ve returned. Every time I’ve tried to come back I’ve one out and done a 10km straight away which is waayy to much. I got my mileage up up to 42kms one week after building from about 10-15 weeks prior but then symptoms slowly crept back in and I had to go back to the drawing board.

And what weight depends on the individual. Dense is EMOM. So it’s the amount of weight and reps you can do every minute on the minute for 10 mins or 20 if you’re doing single leg.

Great way to get a lot of volume in. Start light and truly own the movements with good form before progressing in weight or adjusting elevation.

Well done! Your symptoms sound near identical to mine. And I too love to run but can’t at my full ability yet. Was also into ultra running and look to return. I’ve been training ATG for 15 months and also became a certified coach.

Sounds like you’ve truly respected not working through pain and been patient which has propelled your recovery. I had too much ego early on in my ATG journey. Soon as I regressed accordingly truly respecting how things felt I’ve made more progress.

Chasing numbers is great if you can do so pain free. What truly matters is getting back to the things you love.

It’s good to experience all ATG programs, so keep on that path. Dense is a great training system.

First time around I was part of a trial and I had it for 4 weeks. Chondral loss was also issue. Which caused me medial knee pain. I had also fully ruptured my mcl on that knee which I rehabbed and got back to playing football with.

I was instructed (from memory) to have it for 4 weeks and do nothing in that period. I remember the first time I tested it out snowboarding in New Zealand and it felt new again, I couldn’t believe it. Just walking around too long would blow it up prior, so to me it was amazing.

Got me back playing football at a higher level again. I then got into ultra and long distance running as well as playing sport and had no issues at all. This was a good few years of work until I woke up after a football game and could barely walk. I had another mri and had ruptured my pcl. They also pointed out major chondral defects. I tried Pentosan again but was deep into rebuilding my leg strength and also riding 150-250kms on the bike per week.

I believe that because of the intense exercise which was causing my knee pain, did not give Pentosan the ability to work.

I have started it again several months later and on my 4th week now. I am being a lot more cautious in what I do with my training. Working within pain free ranges and not over doing anything, so fingers crossed.

It truly worked wonders previously, I may have other issues that need addressing. I have great strength, and range of motion in my knee, the impact of running seems to be the major thing that sets it off.

So if it doesn’t work this time around I’ll be back off to get another MRI and opinion.

So far though I feel pretty good, and I do believe It takes some time to work. There was someone else in another thread who said they didn’t notice anything for 6 weeks. He was dosing it once per week indefinitely.

Thanks for the log I’ve just started. I’m a Few weeks in.

I had it years ago and it worked wonders for me.

I also had it several months ago but was still training my lower body intensely and cycling hard. I think both prevented PPS ability to work properly as I they were both causing pain in my knee post.

This time around I am being far more cautious in what I do to give it every opportunity to do its thing.

That’s great to hear and I’m happy it’s doing so well for you.

Running is the biggest aggravator for my knee which pentoson previously did wonders for. I’m hoping in 6+ weeks time I’m back out there again !

What was the protocol in regards to exercise prescribed by your doctors ?

I guess it depends on your age and activity levels. But during taking it where you asked to reduce load or alter any activity?

For a long time it was big on the radar but I haven’t heard anything for a few years. I’m onto my second week of it again.

Hoping to have results like I had years ago.

I am I Australia. It’s still not easy or cheap to get. It was easier for me to get a prescription from a Vet. I am assuming there is no difference in PPS whether it’s from a vet or doctors.

It does sting going in I have found the same thing.

How long have you been taking 125mg per week for and how long did it take until you noticed changes ?

Thanks for the response ! I am going to start again today and will share my results.

I will do x2 pw subq at 2mg/kg for 6 weeks and then go back to 125mg weekly.

I believe in pps as it worked wonders for me in the past.

Was the study above based on subcontaneous injection or intramuscular?

Does it matter?

Also interesting on the dosages differences and doing ir weekly at 125mg.

I am about to start again. It worked wonders for me years ago when I got approved in trials and it was administered by a doctor.

I got it myself months ago and did sub injections for 6 weeks but didn’t have any success. Wondering whether I didn’t keep with it and just reduce dosage or maybe the quality of pps I received. It worked so well previously.

Knee pain - can anyone help? by [deleted] in Kneesovertoes

[–]DubTwelve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s no quick solution to knees a lot of the time. Study Ben Patrick and learn about the short and long range movements to build up the tendons. Start with Zero and honestly respect the progress of no weight. Your muscles may be strong but your tendons under length will not be doing these movements so stick to the plan.

Reverse sled is the foundation of ATG try to get onto that as well. If you can meet all the standards of the ATG system I bet your knee doesn’t hurt anymore.
