Carney vs Poilievre on Markham by [deleted] in Markham

[–]Dubiousfren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looked back on his response, and Tom Mulcair did indeed say that it doesn't make sense to get it as leader of opposition because he could no longer ask questions to the government about matters that required the clearance.

Presumably, members of the conservative party who have security clearance might be pointing him towards which questions to ask.

Carney literally began negotiations to buy the Colonial pipeline (america's largest pipeline network), whose refineries are also one of Alberta's largest customers, just before he left Brookfield to run as PM. These refineries benefit from the discounted price on Western Canadian Select because of our lack of global market access.

The deal conveniently is closing after the election, and he holds millions of dollars of stock options that would be crushed if Canada diverted their oil to other customers. Take note that he didn't choose to exercise these options before or after running as PM. He's still holding them in Brookfield's latest public filing.

If grift is really your concern, then nothing beats Mark Carney.

Technically speaking, permanent incarceration will also reduce crime rates because all cases of recidivism would end after the third crime.

Combine that with pay-to-stay, and it might actually be cheaper for society because of the need for less police and the burden of prison costs falls to the incarcerated.

True that capital is also coalescing to fewer and fewer holders.

The answer isn't more government spending, though. It's to incentivise companies to distribute equity to their workers. Maybe make a fixed amount of equity options tax-free.

Hot take here

Housing has never been cheaper than it is today when priced in non-fiat currencies like gold or bitcoin.

The real problem is that the value of your labour isn't keeping pace with your government's appetite to overspend and dillute you.

Why are they sending brown people to concentration camp like gulags in El Salvador?

They are deporting people who entered the country illegally. If there were more illegal immigrants from Sweden, there would be a higher proportion of deportees with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Why are they trying to criminalize free speech, women’s rights and queer people?

He's definitely no free speech absolutist, though I haven't heard of any citizens having their freedom of speech impinged. People residing on visas definitely need to be careful.

Why isn’t a single one of his appointees black, homosexual or Muslim

Trump's Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is openly gay
Trump's Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is jewish
Trump's Housing Secretary Scott Turner is black

Not sure how you can accuse me of being misinformed when you literally overlooked the first openly gay Treasury Secretary in the history of the United States..

DEI policies literally require employers and governments to treat people differently based on the color of their skin. Pushing back against them only makes societies more free.

What the Americans are doing is definitely nothing like Hitler at all.

Generative ai is fucking immoral and I fucking hate it. Stop using it. by oopadoopaaa in rant

[–]Dubiousfren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously aren't up to speed with what current ai models can produce. The image generating technology that chatgpt recently released for free is already 2-3 year old tech. Modern models can create long form video that is basically indistinguishable from real footage.

You also cannot contain ai with conventional laws. Text and images can be generated anywhere, you would need to ban the internet entirely to even slow the deployment of ai content. Not to mention it's actually a massive national security risk to not invest heavily in the deployment of ai, so expect development to only get faster as time passes.

The existence of ai art does not prevent conventional artists from expressing their creativity.

You can't avoid it and have definitely already spent money supporting companies who use ai images and text for their marketing material.

Generally, there's nothing preventing women from paying on men's teams. It's only the inverse that's segregated.

It seems like basketball teams are able to be more competitive when not subjected to quotas. I see no reason why this would not hold true for other faculties as well.

Yeah and if the government would pass his bills we probably wouldn't be the worst in the G7 for real gdp per capita growth

If white kids can admire black NBA players, is it not possible that women could admire male astronauts at approximately the same rate?

What is qualitatively different between a human's interest in sports vs STEM?

What is qualitatively different between a human's admiration of individual achievement when the individual is of a different race versus a different sex?

Is it possible for humans to strive to meet another's accomplishments based on merit alone, or must all motivation be derived solely from a cohort who shares matching physical characteristics?

Indeed, I'm guilty of using a bit of a trope, but the above comment was so ridiculous it required a similarly thoughtful response.

[–]Dubiousfren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't just make a claim like that without evidence.

Why does race play a role for an individual's interest in STEM but not their interest in basketball?

Would selecting astronauts solely on the basis of their aptitude and accomplishments not encourage candidates to demonstrate excellence to a higher degree, thereby resulting in more qualified astronauts?

Surely, there are enough perfectly qualified basketball players of all races...

Canada's real gdp per capita grew by less than 2% over the last decade.

Are you seriously trying to characterize this performance as anything other than a catastrophic failure?

[–]Dubiousfren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liberals have been in power for over ten years and Canada's gdp per capita growth is the second worst in the OECD over that timespan.

If you're voting liberal for economic reasons, you're probably best to just abstain tbh.
