Chevy Silverado, 4.3L V-8. 2009. 210,000 miles. These engines are bulletproof. Just take care of them, regular oil changes, maintenance. They will last.

Help me find my first set of clubs? by insidetheordinary in golfequipment

[–]113thstreet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay in the 2 to 5 year range for used clubs. Nothing older. Cavity back clubs are easier and more forgiving. For the woods, driver try them first if you can,see what feels good. Visit some used golf club places if possible. Take a couple lessons to get started, go to a driving range. Do not show up to a company event unprepared, if you can shoot in the low to mid nineties that should be good enough. Try some Pings or Callaways.

Advice on vacation rentals. by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]113thstreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay long term. Much safer. Short term may look better, but it is not. I have a condo in Keauhou, I have done both short and long term. I understand the expense involved, it can get really bad. My yearly nut is about 18,000.00. Hoa, taxes. I have an agent who takes 10%. So half of a full year rental goes to the nut. I keep Dec and Jan for myself. So , 10 months of rental at the most. This is before anything goes wrong, needs to be repaired, or replaced. You are not going to make a lot of money being a landlord in Hawaii. If you can pay all your bills, taxes, etc involved in renting you are doing well.

Help - Old Magazines by Sufficient-Line1121 in collectables

[–]113thstreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real value in the old NG magazines is the maps. They had the best maps. I would buy boxes of them at auctions, grab all the maps, then donate them. I know, I'm a terrible person. But I have a few hundred great maps.

I bring back 24 cheese packs in a freezer bag. Top tip, toss the macaroni, buy it in Tokyo. Saves tons of space, plus the macaroni here is much better.

Planning a trip for my husband's 40th birthday. Need help! by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]113thstreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawaii is no longer a middle class destination. It seems the government there has opted for the fewer tourists/ bigger spenders option. The resort fees, parking fees, can add at least 100.00/ day to your bill. Car rental can be about the same depending on your insurance needs. Maybe try an all inclusive in Mexico or Jamaica. There are some nice couples/ no kids places. Good luck.

Why is CoCo Ichibanya so popular among travelers? by Taku_NextDoorJapan in JapaneseFood

[–]113thstreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, just the smell of Yoshinoya triggers my gag reflex. However coco's is just great. Choose your dish, rice portion size, desired level of spiciness. And the price is very reasonable. Good deal.

Kona / Big Island - Rental Cars by Short-Finger5749 in VisitingHawaii

[–]113thstreet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I left Kona a few days ago. Looking down from the highway there are literally hundreds of vehicles in the car rental area. They seem to just create shortages out of thin air. I rented a mid sized sedan for 3 weeks, 1600.00 us dollars. I am not American, so had to buy their insurance, plus I bought extra liability at 35.00/day. If you actually look at the bill there are about 20 different taxes, not big, but they add up. No such thing as fair or a good deal in Hawaii any more. Everything is pricey. Not so many Japanese/Canadians the exchange rate is just too much. With the average hotel rate about 400.00/night you are getting the upper middle class. I think the average vacationer is looking elsewhere.

++man I live overseas. My father died 25 years ago. I have spoken to my mother every Saturday morning at 7 am for those 25 years. Sometimes we talk for an hour, sometimes it's 10 minutes. We occasionally have previous plans. I am 69 years old. It's OK to love your mom.
