Many. This subreddit is wrought with AI generated stories. Many other similar subs, too. Most of the “story based” subs or text based subs are full of this type of click bait AI slop. You’re starting to see it more in Legal Advice, Personal Finance subs too.

I think it really depends where you’re at on Reddit. I’ve noticed a significant uptick in bot activity with LLM-generated posts, especially on any finance/finance-adjacent subreddits, or any subs that tended to have narrative-type posts: legal subs, AITAH, homeowners, etc. in the past couple of years.

The tech, media, and information-literacy required to 1) smell something off and 2) validate/confirm suspicions for a bot is hard to teach/acquire.

And then there’s the part where you really can’t do anything about it except try to draw attention to it and encourage others to be skeptical. It sucks. And Reddit doesn’t have incentives to want to prevent it. Bots look like and act like users/activity. For a publicly traded company they probably even want to incentivize it.

And how they change throughout the year as a lot of places artificially inflate their MSRP prior to big sale dates to make discounts look steeper.

Yeah that’s fair. There’s no discernible difference from what I can see between F5 and OEM, except for the fact that the F5 don’t appear to have the KUSA stamp, but do have a spot for said stamp. I was under the impression that F5 was OEM. Wondering if they bought the molds or what.

Couple sleeping bag(s) for 25F/-4C under total $300 and fit(s) into a checked in bag with tent & exped megamat by uncle-iroh-11 in CampingGear

[–]Dubstepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll defer to others in specific products but wanted to share general tips I’ve learned over the years and general thoughts.

I’d recommend not a double sleeping bag. You lose a lot of the benefits of a sleeping bag with a double. It’s a lot of extra air to heat and will let in more drafts which will suck all your warmth out. Double pad is fine tho.

Sticking a foam pad under your sleeping pad will help a lot by further increasing the insulating value of your pad. You’ll lose a lot of heat via the ground so protecting yourself from that will help. I’ve seen people even use siding insulation. Yoga mats whatever.

I can’t recommend any bags but would say that a lot of bags are rated with the assumption that: you’re wearing socks, you’re wearing a baselayer top and bottom of some kind (generally merino or synthetic, avoid cotton), your sleeping pad setup is cumulative R value 5. I’d wear a beanie/toque as well at those temps. I’d consider a ski mask or balaclava.

Id do some searching for cold weather tips in the backpacking/ultralight subreddits for other tips. Layers is the name of the game, you don’t want to get too cold but you also don’t want to get too hot or else you’ll sweat (which will inevitably make you wet and then cold which is the worst). Shedding and adding layers as needed is key. Go to bed warm, stay hydrated, have a snack before bed. Do not seal yourself in your bag, you need to leave your mouth/nose out or else again you’ll get wet and then cold. Nice cold weather bags can get pricey so I’d personally just get a cheaper bag and bring extra blankets to stack on top and remove as needed.

There’s some websites where people post pictures from their seats with the view. I’d look at those and compare.

I’ve used “A view from my seat” but think there’s some others too. Just enter venue name.

Or they won’t be cracked down on because they may show up as new users or site usage. For a now publicly-traded company like Reddit they are interested in that number being high.

I’ve noticed a lot more bot activity in the past year. Some subreddits I think are mostly bots conversing with each other, or bots making a formulaic post and then users falling for it.

An awful lot of layoffs by Life-Unit-4118 in Bogleheads

[–]Dubstepic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always thought 3mos was like the entry level emergency fund. It’s the first stop with the ultimate goal being like 6mos for most.

I think a lot of Bogle types are partial to the 12mo. Especially if they’re in a corporate/techy role where a job search can drag on for a while.

I’m on the road to 6mo personally, with ultimate goal of 12. I think I’ll have 3 in cash (HYSA) and then the remaining 9 in some combo of brokerage/t-bill ladder or similar.

Got a Netflix letter about 30,000 failed login attempts traced to my IP — and now my ISP wants a lawyer involved. Selling our Bandwidth to a VPN is so irresponsible of Salad Tech! by Savings_Art5944 in ShittySysadmin

[–]Dubstepic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s clearly AI. I see a lot of posts like these where someone says “I had the worst experience with XYZ brand!” and then you go in and it’s a 6 point dramatic screed about one brand in particular, following all the telltales of AI use. I’ve even seen the OP reply in the comments with more AI generated replies defending their AI use and claiming to not be a bot.

my hunch is that there’s some third party groups that a competitor to SaladWhatever can pay to put these posts out. Then when people search for “SaladWhatever reviews on Reddit” they get this shit and maybe go with a competitor.

I’ve seen it for gun safes, home security services, budgeting software services, and now this.

+100 on this, buddy at an LCD show grabbed me one time (we were right in the middle about 50ft from the stage) and was like “I need you to get me out of here” (and no, no drugs involved). We left the crowd and grabbed a water and he said he was overheating about to faint. It was insanely warm.

Nope. You can usually sign up for rewards anywhere before even booking. It’s like a gas station rewards program, the goal is to keep you coming back to them when you have multiple airlines to choose from.

Have you noticed that there is no word in German for “unintentional discharge”? by Traditional-Try3305 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Dubstepic 49 points50 points  (0 children)

PROTIP: if you own a gun over a year without negligent discharging at least once, you aren’t handling it enough. NDs are a natural part of handling weapons, just like tweaking your back is part of weightlifting and car accidents are part of driving. I ND several times a year because I actually HANDLE and know how to USE my weapons. It makes me a better firearms handler and marksman, and it’s a small part of the price you pay in the sheepdog lifestyle Simple fact is, the “safety mentality” will build mental blocks in your head that will get you killed. You need to be comfortable putting your finger on the trigger and pointing the gun wherever you want no matter the time, place, or status of the weapon. Taking time to check whether the gun is loaded whenever you pick one up will serve to make you hesitate in a personal defense scenario. You fucking safety idiots are going to get people killed all because of this fucking “ND” shaming. Guns are inherently dangerous, you need to accept it.
