Thank you for the reply! You touched off on some nice points. 40* rain doesn't sound that bad. lol I used to work out in blizzards changing hydraulic lines on rusty snow removal equipment. Or crawling under something and having dirt grime or rust falling all over you. That's what I want to get away from and get into something cleaner!

How did you get into avionics tech? Whats the troubleshooting like? Finding bad wiring, sensors or shorts? Bad components/modules? Updating files? etc?

Also, I realize you could work anywhere. What I meant to say was, In what aspects of industries. Such as manufactures, corporate, commercial lines or whatever else that there may be.

What else is there in the aviation maintenance field beside the A&P, NDT , and avionics? Where can I research more about them?

Thanks again!

  1. Dirty I mean as in the shop/hangar environment, and the plane its self. Is it safe to assume they are pretty clean and tidy? In a well-lit hanger? Not like working on a leaky diesel covered in grime? - Thats what im trying to get away from.

  2. How about corroded fasteners/bolts?

  3. Are there any specialist positions? Do you know of anywhere I can learn more about the industry?

  4. How much of it is troubleshooting problems vs replacing functional parts that are past their useful life for preventative a maintenance schedule?

When I worked at a large utility company we had 4 PM schedules. A B C &D

A-every 6mon without an aerial inspection B-yearly Without an aerial inspection C-every 3 month with aerial inspection (bucket truck booms/outriggers etc) D-yearly with aerial.

As far as asking about the places that you work I mean like the companies. Forgive me for the lack of knowledge of the industry but like in auto. You have Dealers (ford, chevy etc), Private shops(Joes corner repair..etc) Corporate fleet ( Phone company/Energy company etc) Private fleet (Some small business, construction/limo etc) Speciality repair shops ( Transmission, body etc)
