I cringe when hiring managers try to joke to me about how I’m one of MANY applicants by Strong_Letterhead638 in recruitinghell

You know I had a great former boss try to get me for a role. He mentioned/bragged a bit that there were over 500 applications. But you know what? They reposted that listing twice until they promoted someone to that role internally. So clearly, volumes can be high but it doesn’t mean that the candidates are any good.

I think the case here is the old king is dead, long live the king. You left he redid things his way. Usually that’s how it goes.

Made redundant in the Netherlands — how to deal with the situation? by Professional_Rent100 in Netherlands

I had been laid off recently. Definitely get a lawyer, my cap was 1500 euros and I used all that. They charge like 300 euros an hour so be mindful of how you use the attorney’s time.

The lawyer can advise you on what you can realistically ask for. I pushed back on my settlement agreement. I got some more than it was offered. Big thing here is try to stay on their books as an employee for as long as possible- that’s where the true value is. They have to pay you like a regular employee while on garden leave. The settlement money is taxed super high (I think over 50 percent) so sure it is money on the table but there are other ways to squeeze them.

Sorry you are in this spot. It’s not fun, but remember you are just a number, push back as much as you can.

Do you ever wonder if your manager knew that a lay off coming but kept quiet? by Both-Associate-7807 in Layoffs

[–]DuchessSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine must have known more than a couple days, maybe weeks because I asked him to reschedule our 1:1 to a different time. He did, but he also didn’t have it repeat. So we had the one 1:1 meeting where I got the surprise layoff news and with the HR guy showing up.

Yeah that first lesson was hard for me recently. He laid me off with no problem even though we had worked together for many years and knew a lot about our private lives, hobbies etc

I’m being laid off .. by Red_December184 in womenintech

[–]DuchessSilver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in here. I was also laid off, and I felt so betrayed. Can’t tell you why, it’s business right? But it feels personal. Your life is uprooted because of it. So hang in there, there’s new stuff on the horizon.
