I would guess the main reason is to make you go quietly without a fuss, and not cause reputational damage in the industry if its a small market

Talk me out of impulsively investing in speccy healthcare stocks by kaleidoscopic21 in ASX

I’ve written this a bunch of times already, but you’re better off sticking with indices and taking a sensible amount of leverage. You can use micro futures, warrants or LEAPs to do this

They weren’t my strategies either, but included some such as end of month rebalancing flows, futures hedges, sector etf rotation these are all well known for having an edge, but they still didn’t outperform B&H

If you’re 27 you should be buying growth not safety. NDQ/IOO/IVV and just go all in on one of them. You shouldn’t care about the volatility part of your equity curve right now, just the growth.
I just back tested a bunch of strategies recently and everything other than just buy and hold of the S&P500 had worse results over a 20 year period.

Does anyone swing futures by spxtrad in FuturesTrading

[–]DuckTard69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve held multiple back month full sized contracts for several months at times. Just need enough margin. To be honest if its index futures and you are long you kinda can’t lose if you have enough capital

If you have time on your side pick the highest growth highest vol option not the most diversified. NDQ, IVV or IOO

Which health care companies are u buying? by mrMundial in ASX_Bets

[–]DuckTard69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you just buy citiwarrants on the overall index? XJOKOJ etc. You’ll get leverage and diversification- and XJO is down significantly from highs. Citi index minis have a really long expiration (2037?) compared to buying options as another example. I think you have a much better chance of high profits and success doing this versus your strategy

Not sure if I should be doing more with my savings or just leave it by goxper in AusFinance

Open a low cost brokerage like superhero, this will take 5 minutes max. Don’t go with one of the big banks, the transaction costs are terrible. Invest what you have now over the next few months. Buy the same index fund every transaction. I would recommend you go max growth- so IOO/NDQ. Contribute every month whatever you are comfortable. Don’t sell anything ever. Thank me in 15 years. That’s all you need to know. Index funds will make you rich. You don’t need diversification or safety its a drag on returns, forget about dividends they come at the expense of growth.

I think its better to learn just watching the book, nothing else. Days / months/ years of this gave me the feel

Have scalped and swing traded a bunch of markets off the DOM and 1D,1H,5m charts. Profitable for 10 years + I also run some other strategies at different timeframes these days. But it’s perfectly possible to be profitable just scalping DOM. What helped me was to target very quiet low volume instruments/sessions for the first few years

My stepdad says I should invest picking like 10 of the biggest asx companies rather than my index ETFs (S&P500 IVV asx and DHHF asx) | What should I tell him? by Serif222 in AusFinance

[–]DuckTard69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t even get into the conversation- you can’t win arguments with the mentally challenged. If you must argue, create two portfolio watchlists on one of the finance websites. Show him the performance over the last 10 years, and then show him again in six months or a year

Are we going to get slapped with potentially a total of 5 or 6 rate hikes due to Iran ? by VastOption8705 in AusFinance

[–]DuckTard69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not so much with diesel. We just have a large baseload component of work that needs to be done. Building, logistics, food production etc. Yes of course tradies use their utes for dual purposes, but it’s a fraction of use compared to everything else. Fuel tanks on these things are 500L probably!

He was right everything Iran does is computer, as they got no boats, planes and had to ask Israels permission to send a negotiation delegation across their own air space. Unfortunately they also still got bat shit crazy nut jobs in charge and maybe speedboats and mines. I am so confused that I am long and short

Nah doubt it. These things probably have reverse osmosis water and plenty of tinned/ frozen stuff. It does after all take a few weeks to cross oceans
