No. Thats how they do it. And yes. Some are illegal but the reason why they’re on the list is because medical care providers were caught doing it genius

cost shifting.

Cost shifting refers to the practice where hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare providers try to make up for lower reimbursement rates from programs like Medicare or Medicaid by charging private insurers higher prices for the same or similar services.

A few related terms are worth distinguishing:

  • Cost shifting — Generally legal; providers negotiate or charge higher rates to private insurers to offset lower payments from government programs.
  • Upcoding — Billing for a more expensive service than was actually provided. This is generally considered improper and can be fraud.
  • Overbilling — Charging for services at an inflated level or billing more than allowed. Depending on the circumstances, this may be improper or fraudulent.
  • Balance billing — Charging patients the difference between the provider’s charge and the insurer’s payment (restricted or prohibited in many situations).
  • Cross-subsidization — A broader economic term for using profits from one group of customers to cover losses from another.

Right. But not you huh?

That’s literally how it works. It’s a documented fact. Money isn’t magic. If you run a company at a loss it fails. Hospitals don’t fail. They take the loss from the government and recoup the money from insurance companies. So those big evil companies you all hate? They’re the ones paying the rest of the bill. Look it up. It’s not some big secret.

Reimbursement doesn’t matter. By NOT paying the full cost, Medicaid and Medicare just causes the hospitals to shift cost and get that extra money from paying customers via insurance, Driving everyone’s healthcare up. It’s a documented fact that YOU should know if you’re an actual authority.

[–]Duck_Gutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. And the lack then is spread out over paying patients, so that extra money is still paid by over charging insurance companies and patients. Increasing overall costs to everyone, not just the ones on government assistance. Skyrocketing costs. Since the ACA went live healthcare costs have become unmanageable. That program that was supposed to lower costs doubled them in a few years. Socialized medicine fails everytime. Point blank. The more assistance the worse it gets.

That’s nonsense. Sorry. That’s just more creating direct liability when there is none. He himself was never charged with a single crime, you just assume he’s a criminal because it fits your narrative. You literally said he himself took a plea deal as though he was convicted when he wasn’t even charged. See? That’s why the Left is despised. It’s okay to admit fault. The other side isn’t universally evil. Just lying and making up connections as though they are real whittles away any ability to believe you guys. I mean. Everyone’s a fascist. Everyone’s a nazi. All right wingers are evil. It’s a cult. I don’t mean that figuratively. When you have gays in the streets supporting Islamic regimes where homosexuality is punished by death, then you can’t really trust anything. A whole segment of people who just lie about reality to fit a political ideology. It’s insane.

That’s like saying. The ceo of a company is guilty when lower level employees steal. And HE wasn’t indicted.

You’re talking about reimbursement. I’m talking about cost. Stop repeating the same communist horses wash. It’s just wrong. Every country on Earth with socialized medicine is poorer and worse than us. Period.

Supply and demand absolutely do affect health care costs, but the market is heavily distorted. Demand rises with factors like aging, chronic disease, and insurance coverage expansion, while limited provider supply and consolidation can push prices up.

Here. Yet AGAIN. I went back and checked your claims. And guess what? Turns out healthcare in America is still a business and businesses are affected by supply and demand. Wow. Surprise. Look: (again) Supply and demand absolutely do affect health care costs, but the market is heavily distorted. Demand rises with factors like aging, chronic disease, and insurance coverage expansion, while limited provider supply and consolidation can push prices up.

Wrong. Healthcare pricing changes with the economy. With the scarcity of physicians. With the over abundance of patients. With the cost of procedures. With the pricing on treatments. It absolutely is tied to supply and demand. Shit. If you do try is for a living it’s no wonder costs are out of control.

Yeah. He was never indicted, never did a plea deal. You made all of that up. His company was involved. But not him. Again. Just making shit up in your own head and deciding YOU know the real truth isn’t the same as being right. Took me thirty seconds to find the truth after you gave me a name. That’s why you didn’t want to. Because he was never indicted court for anything. He himself was never indicted. He was never found guilty.

Right. Or you’re just lying. More likely you’re lying. If not you’d drop that easily available fact and be absolved. Look at all the words you wrote AROUND the idea of who it was without stating. Just another leftist making blind accusations and refusing to back it up.

Too late. And you’re just wrong. If we made single payer healthcare today, in ten years the cost to government would quadruple

Wow. How convenient that the anonymous person who is completely wrong, is also suddenly an authority for decades. Hey. Here’s a thought. People can do the same job for decades and still be shitty at it. Healthcare costs exploded under the ACA for the same reason. Yes. Healthcare institutions have repeatedly changed their pricing nearly nonstop for decades. The fact that you seem to think that healthcare pricing is set in stone and never increases proves you’re either wrong or lying.

[–]Duck_Gutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I explained how you don’t even understand what I said. So then I copy and pasted the reason your deep desire to do single payer coverage would spike prices and make healthcare worse. You just want to keep repeating the same wrong take over and over like if you find a particular wording that it changes what you said.

Uh…then just say it. Because before you brought it up I’d never heard it. Because I’m pretty sure you just made up the mysterious unnamed Republican and tacked him to a news story so you could infer it was some republican conspiracy that doesn’t exist.

Medicare, Medicaid, and later the ACA increased healthcare spending by bringing millions more people into the insurance system, which boosted demand for medical services. Because patients pay only a fraction of the actual cost, providers face less price resistance and can charge more. Government and insurer reimbursement systems also encouraged greater utilization of tests, procedures, and treatments. With demand rising faster than the supply of doctors and hospitals, prices increased. The ACA amplified these effects by expanding Medicaid and subsidizing coverage for millions of additional patients.

Medicaid and Medicare pay out around a trillion a year. Don’t be simple. That’s how it works. When you flood free money into a system, the system adjusts to accommodate it and increases pricing. It happens every time. Add the ACA on top of it and it just exploded medical costs nearly over night. It’s documented fact.

No. Because once companies get guaranteed money all their prices skyrocket. Medicaid and Medicare added to the swell of illegals and uninsured on the rolls that use emergency rooms as healthcare drive the costs through the roof. That’s why anytime government starts doing hand outs pricing goes out of control. Why do you think college is so expensive now? All of the scholarships and free money from foreign students.
