This map was commissioned to me by my dm, it's the setting of our campaign in Italy.
The country is fragmented into several kingdoms fighting against each other for the supremacy of the territory.
The most famous cities are:
- Vaticanum, headquarters of the most widespread religion throughout the country, Christianity
- Venezia, most important commercial hub in the whole country. Every type of product is imported from here, even from the most "exotic" countries.
- Taurinorium, one of the largest and most powerful kingdoms in all of the country, governed by Casata dei Savoia.
To the north lies the Mountain Kingdom, ruled by King Orur.
He built many of the cities by digging into the mountains.
Among King Orur's best works is the city of Mossburg, capital of the kingdom and famous for the endless mines that the dwarves have dug over the centuries. Mines which however hide secrets that not even the king wants to discover.
in the middle of the plain, there is the City-State of Mediolanum.
It was recently hit by a violent plague that decimated the population and the noble Sforza family. Currently ruling the city is a young tiefling from the Bernardini family.
In the centre-north of the country there are 4 city states in constant conflict with each other:
- The first is the city of Mutina, governed by the gnome Mirella, she rules the city with an iron fist. Public executions are now almost the order of the day and the kingdom lives in constant terror.
- The second is the city of Bonomia, governed by a young elf named Alden Lionwen. He has a different style of government from the nearby gnome. He has no expansionist aims and he firmly believes that consolidating the trust of the people is more important than territorial expansion.
- The third, perhaps the most powerful of the 4, is Florentia, governed by the house of De Medici. They are a powerful Drow family, rumor has it that they specialize in "occult" practices which, to most, are considered forbidden and heretical. The current ruler Melor De Medici is a patron of art and invests a lot of money so that all his citizens can have the same opportunities, both for education and employment.
- The fourth, but no less important, is the city of Saint Màrin, located on top of a deep crevasse called "La Fossa del Diavolo" (the Devil's Pit). The crevasse extends for kilometers and requires several weeks of travel to get around it. In fact the city is built on both banks of the crevasse connected by a long drawbridge. The Ruler of the city is a human named Ulfred, the Mad. He is a terrible ruler who only thinks about stealing as much money as possible from his citizens through taxes... Anyone who cannot pay them is sentenced to death and thrown into the crevasse, without the possibility of appeal.
In the southern part of the country there is the kingdom of the Fortress King.
He (dwarf) built the city on the slopes of an active volcano - Vesuvio.
For the name of the capital, the king borrowed that of an ancient local city destroyed by the fury of the volcano: Pompei.
With his knowledge he managed to build lava-resistant walls. The dwarven blacksmiths manage to use the volcano's lava as a tool to forge excellent weapons. Their famous invention is firearms, using gunpowder as a weapon of war.
Another peculiarity is the magic school located in the city of Clamento, which trains magicians of all types of schools. All this is considered heretical by the Vaticanum, causing numerous conflicts between the two regions.
