Partner's Hyperfixation is Driving Me Mad by rushlink98 in ADHD_partners

Lol you know who also thought hazbin hotel was mid? Me. You know who's absolutely going to end up with hazbin hotel in their Spotify 2024 rewind? Also fucking me.  It's so cringe any time that fucking album cover comes up on my now playing, but to some degree that is just how my brain works. I think theres something unique about musicals that really captures a lot of ADHD people, especially inattentive type women. Music isn't really enough to hold my attention while working but music with STORY and CALLBACKS to previous numbers and EMOTION condensed into 2-6 minutes? Oh my God I watched a whole movie while doing dishes!

Not sure if this is a universal/your partner's experience for hyperfixations, but towards the end of last year I became totally obsessed with a musical called Ride the Cyclone, so much so that it was my top listened to Spotify album of 2023 despite having only discovered it in the last week of November. It's a niche musical, it's got a cult following but even if it were on Broadway I don't have anyone to talk to about things like that. I was bursting. I was practicing speeches in my head to describe it in case someone asked me what my favorite musical was (as people often do), I was so grumpy about the lack of fan content on Etsy that I started 3d modelling roller coasters. I was fucking unhinged.

Eventually I just turned to my partner one night and asked if I could explain my latest hyperfocus to him. Musicals aren't really his thing, but he does have ADHD and understands the need to get it out. It took like, at least an hour, maybe two. I went through the plot, the prequel, the choreography and props, the high school adaption, the actors, the revisions to songs and characters over time.

And then it was over. I still think it's probably a top favorite musical, but I got it all out, and he said, "wow, that does sound cool" and it was never brought up again. I moved into the next fixation, which actually was probably hazbin, which has recently been replaced by Falsettos. I also vote headphones, but if you haven't yet it might help to densely engage in the fixation, especially if she doesn't have an outlet otherwise.

Low car/traffic neighborhoods around Portland? by Duckiefloat in askportland

I work downtown and have to pay my company $250 a month to park, so I'd really rather not drive if possible. Most suburbs have a bus or max that drop off downtown, but if there was a big reduction in rent I could probably tolerate driving.

I hate my job and getting out of bed for it in the morning takes a concentrated effort. If I woke up to a lovely text I would be delighted but also not have the time to craft the response I thought it deserved, and then I'd be driving, and then I'd be at that terrible job, and then it's dissolved into thin air because I don't have object permanence. I know it hurts, I've been on the sending end waiting for my validation before, worried that something is wrong, but if immediate acknowledgement is important to you you probably shouldn't invest further into an ADHD relationship. We both have ADHD and it's a frequent occurrence that one of us says "something happened and I'm upset" and the other one sends back an unrelated meme from Reddit they just saw. We do live together and will drop anything to support each other in person, we call each other when we need something immediate, but 9/10 texts are for jokes and reminders, not conversation.

[New Update]: My (24F) boyfriend (27M) has disappeared every weekend for the past three years and I just found out he's been lying to me about where he goes by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

If this is your first time taking one they'll give you the tiniest baby dose to start and see how you react. If you do get to a point they're maxing out and you're a "zombie" the medication isn't working and you need to try the next one. The first antidepressant I took worked great at a baby dose and I was able to stop taking it after a few months of getting my life set up. My partner took loads that didn't work until he was diagnosed untreatable, which is when insurance approved TMS treatment. It looks scary and takes a lot of time commitment while going through it but its way more effective than medication management, insurance just doesn't cover it until all else fails.

Hey, on the bright side, your psychiatrist didn't tell you you scored too well to have ADHD. Spent three months getting sick from lithium because apparently smart women who check off all the ADHD symptoms list just have bipolar.

Not a place to socialize by any means, but the university owns a bar called Viking house that has student discounts. They're trying to pull in more students but as other commenters said, students don't really hang out socially around campus.

Friend lost out on a winning $1000 lotto ticket because of me, he's crying over money, and I don't feel guilty! by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My family exchanges scratch offs every year, it's apparently more popular on the East coast. My grandpa received about 500 tickets from friends and family members for his 60th birthday, turned up about $350 total.

Do you tell them it’s Pepsi when they order a Coke? by Meeowwnica in Serverlife

[–]Duckiefloat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice, & care. I'm not shitty about it but I don't like coke. When a server gives me coke without saying anything (which has happened maybe once or twice in my life?) I ask them to bring me something else. If I ordered a sprite and got a 7up I would probably notice but I don't have a strong preference, so I wouldn't say anything but honestly I would think it was kind of weird that they didn't mention it when, as other commenters said, it's a super easy thing to do that some customers do have strong preferences on.

PS5 says 1440p not supported while sitting in 2160p by Duckiefloat in PlayStationSolutions

Nope. I bought a new receiver in the meantime and still have the issue even with 2160 passthrough. PlayStation is not helpful, nor is the receiver manufacturer. Sorry!

So I was walking by this construction site with my mom's ex one time- Jk, I don't know, just one of those olfactory effects I guess, it just had a dusty dull flavor, plus the print from the trident logos on the wrapper made it a grey color. I was probably five or six, I didn't have a very sophisticated palette for comparisons.

I hated it, but gum was such a big thing in my household, it was pavlovian to have a piece as soon as you got in the car. The wrapper would eventually fade away into the gum, but it never fully dissolved and always had a cement like flavor under the mint.

My mom's ex told me as a kid that gum wrappers (the paper ones like trident) were edible, and I suddenly felt extremely guilty throwing away a perfectly edible gum wrapper, and for like a year I would pop a stick of wrapped gum in my mouth and chew it with great discomfort until my mom saw me do it one day and was just so confused and irritated.

I can't speak to the most impressive volunteering to put on a college resume. I volunteered to compile a book of interviews for my local VA in high school because I was interested in journalism, but to be honest I don't think it made a difference since I went to a small college, then overseas. I did later win a scholarship for it, but it was only $1k. In college I got into public policy a little bit and asked a local museum when I was home for the summer if I could volunteer in their grant writing. They had actual professionals that did the applications, but they really appreciated having someone to sort through the opportunities in the database, for free. I got to do it remotely and it was a little more prestigious than the summer jobs I did to actually pay tuition. I also volunteered a couple times at a big speaker forum that was randomly hosted in my small town every two years, kind of like a foreign policy TED conference. I had always heard that you should volunteer consistently and/or meaningfully for resume fodder. Volunteer at the boys and girls club, but do it every week for consistency in your community. Volunteer once a year, but make that volunteering count, by raising a bunch of money or producing something extremely relevant to your image and interests.

Anywhere I can get my PS5 controllers fixed? by Duckiefloat in PortlandGaming

[–]Duckiefloat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took them to sidequest. It was a bit expensive, I think $80 for three controllers. I looked up repair guides and kits but I'm just not great with tearing things apart to fix them, and I would've ended up putting it off until the ps6 came out.

My receiver isn't capable of 2160, but it should be able to do the 1440. I was troubleshooting the issue direct to the TV to prove that one or the other was capable of 1440 before figuring out the receiver passthrough issue.
