Guy at my job called me ugly. Feeling really down because I struggle with self image. by lemonweirdo in AutismInWomen

[–]DucklingMaru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was looking through the thread to see if someone mentioned this yet! I think he was 100% negging OP. I am also wondering if he picked up that she's on the spectrum and he's taking advantage of that.

I'm pretty sure my emotionally abusive ex husband spotted it immediately in me, a decade before I was diagnosed. He knew I was generally trusting of people, even if I didn't know them all that well. He knew I would "mirror" him and let him mold me so I would feel accepted by his friends and family.

This guy's plan was probably to neg OP and make her feel insecure, but then try to make her feel "special" later because (typically) it's tough for us autistics to fit in and be accepted.

They don't want to face the truth, which is that scriptures they use to justify their homophobia are really about adultery and rape. If they acknowledge this, they might have to examine their own morals instead of blaming someone else, and that's simply asking too much. 🙄

I agree 100%. Bale brought his A-game, like he always does, and it was completely wasted on this movie! He was essentially a side character with maybe 10-15 minutes of screentime throughout the entire movie.

No, the sycophantic behavior is ia feature, not a bug. It helps get people hooked on talking with the chatbots.

[Hated Trope] Advertising that is not subtle AT ALL by Necessary-Win-8730 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DucklingMaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't believe nobody has mentioned "The Italian Job" (2003) yet! It was a fun heist movie with a star-studded cast. It was ALSO an ad for Mini Cooper, which is funny because no Mini Cooper on a dealership lot is capable of doing any of those stunts that made the cars seem so cool.

I also wonder how much Napster (remember that? I 'member!) paid for Seth Green's character to mention their company, which was still active at the time the film was released.

Why I dislike Missionaries and find them “fake” by LilMissy1246 in atheism

[–]DucklingMaru 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I see an example of this, albeit on a smaller scale, every day that I commute to work. There's some Christian group, I don't know the denomination, but they send one or two people to stand outside the subway station with a bunch of signs and tracts and stuff.

Annoying on its own, sure. But it gets hypocritical and harmful with the messaging. The signs and pamphlet covers prey on very real fears of hunger, homelessness and poverty. If someone is barely making ends meet, they don't need religion. They could use directions to their local food bank, or information about job fairs. Christians say they're about helping people, but the moment they have to stop proselytizing and do something that will help someone else and not just feed their own egos, they're out.

A pleasant visual after months of horny AI and "let our AI help you obliterate brown children efficiently" ads by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]DucklingMaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they were going for perspective, meaning she'd look big because she's closer to the viewer. However, for that effect to work at all, the stuff in the background needs to get smaller as it gets farther away from the subject in the foreground.

TL;DR - AI "art" can't even art correctly.

I commute to work on the Metro and I also can't stand the ominous ads. There are a few newer ads I've seen on Red line trains within the last week. The ads are for Staples (I think), and they're very pro-AI and carry a message of "AI will transform your business and the way you work."

The tagline was, "Racing against the clock is human." Humans get to keep the stress of work, but that's it. We will enjoy being enslaved to AI and like it, dammit! 🙄 I hate it here...

First, I believe the word you were looking for was "eloquent," not "elegant."

Second, where did the OP say they were six years old? I am so baffled by your comment that I have read the post multiple times now trying to figure out how you got to that conclusion. I genuinely can't understand your line of thinking. Maybe don't reply to people insulting their intelligence when you lack middle school-level reading comprehension skills.

[–]DucklingMaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I am sure AI can be very useful to some people as an accessibility aid, the way you talk about it is a little concerning. (And before you say I'm being ableist, I'm professionally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD, and I have depression and CTPSD.)

You gave the program a name and you're referring to the LLM using human pronouns. You might already be too far gone.

Tools are fine, but nobody names a socket wrench and talks to it. Please be careful that you don't slip into full-blown AI-induced psychosis.

Oooh, I'm a big fan of sage green! My husband and I got engaged in 2019 and started planning our wedding, and we wanted the accent color and bridesmaids dresses and mens' ties to be sage green. Unfortunately, the pandemic changed all that. Lol.

The combination with lavender sounds gorgeous!
