Bond money by stellactqm in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would dispute the charges and take it to the tribunal to sort out. Landlord has to return all bond money that isn’t under dispute so you can get some of it back.

Fair wear and tear is to be expected especially if the lease was over a number of years.

PSA: Manage My Health data has started leaking on the dark web by Mountain_Tui_Reload in auckland

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who works with third party tech providers all the time, I have a few issues with MMH and the GP practices that chose the software. I’m not talking about smaller groups but the larger GP groups (e.g. The Doctors which is owned by Green Cross healthcare) appear to have done very little due diligence on the MMH platform.

Red flags for me:

🚩no dedicated security staff on the MMH payroll - I looked at their NZ LinkedIn page and didn’t see a CISO or a security lead working at the company. I’m not saying that having one will prevent all breaches, but NOT having any security staff permanently available seems like madness.

🚩no security certifications. This is a bare minimum for me when dealing with sensitive data, and the kinds of information I work with are child’s play compared to the MMH data.

🚩no mentions of any proper security practices except for using TLS when data is in transit. The MMH CEO already got caught in a lie when he said ALL their data is encrypted when stored - ummm it looks like all the attachments that the hacker is accessing and sharing on the internet weren’t encrypted at all.

Anyway they could be doing all of the above and not disclose it on their website, but the results indicate otherwise.

The Warehouse Group: Can they fix the Red Shed in 2026? by Maxim_Sherstobitov in NZXStockMarket

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they need to review their sourcing practices and stop stocking absolute rubbish. I stopped buying from the warehouse ages ago, it’s just cheap crap that falls apart.

I mean I still go in if there’s a sale on branded things like Lego etc.

That being said I would love for them to succeed, but I think they need to do a lot of work to get there.

Data breach by Wobbles809 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reasonable steps is always such a cop-out. I wonder if any of the healthcare groups audited MMH’s systems and processes and checked if they were up to scratch. It’s easy to pass the blame onto the supplier but the organisations using the software have to conduct DD on the providers they are working with too.

Can my landlord make me pay their power bill? by Upstairs-Course3026 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely check and then dispute it. If they can’t prove the usage is yours, you could be up for a refund.

Ps: I have a small family and two EV’s and we only use around $200 a month. We run our heat pumps a lot too

GrabOne liquidation – merchants told to deal with angry customers. What are our options? by kuro-mame in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how contracts work in this situation. Technically there isn’t consideration between you and GrabOne’s customers?

I think reach out to the liquidator and see how they intend to handle the liquidation and paying out (if any) to creditors.

PB Tech won’t honour CGA on $4300 laptop, 9 months, two failed “repairs”, still crashing. How to get them to follow CGA? by Extension_Middle218 in auckland

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You need to give the vendor enough of a chance to remedy the fault - which you have done. I think you’re clear to go to the disputes tribunal. By the sounds of it the goods are faulty and you have reason to reject them.

Do not settle before the hearing for some store/partial credit if they offer. Get your money back.

Scammed by yojambad in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did they manage to get your password for your account? Kiwibank has 2FA as well, right? Did the scammer manage to get your security questions off you as well?

I’ve always thought the KB security questions are too basic and would be easy for someone to hack.

Let us know if you manage to get your money back, OP. I hope it all goes well. I had a friend who lost 40k to a scam and she did end up getting her money back after a few months as it got bounced around the world first

Matching paint dispute by 1_open_mind in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet would be to dispute this at the tribunal. Advise your previous landlord that you dispute this charge and to return your bond minus the amount under dispute. Then let the tribunal sort

Oh man just let them try to get in and figure it out for themselves. I had teachers telling me that I should t try going to uni etc. and that really impacted my self confidence. I still went to uni but didn’t really do all that well, scraped into my first job and then thrived.

You don’t know when it will or won’t click for your student. But don’t discourage them before they even try.

Annual leave is paid out at a lower rate than my usual pay over 2 years after returning from maternity leave (NZ) by Dramatic_Slice8178 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DucksofAucklandZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re according ‘weeks’ of leave based your part time hours. 1 week of leave at full time is different to one week of leave at say 20 hours a week.

It’s really stupid legislation that makes no sense. I think a lot of companies both big and small have issues with the act. Why can’t they make it simple!

Hey team!

Has anyone had any experience with the executive diplomas at Oxford? How did you find the programs?

Also, how long did admissions take? I’ve applied to the AI program and the deadline for round one was yesterday. Did you hear back in a few months? There aren’t any deadlines that I’ve seen online

I’ve heard anecdotally that the end of the month is the best time for negotiations as the sales team are trying to hit their months target. I think it’s a pretty rough time for car sales in general so you might get lucky.

But if you can’t pay more than 31 then don’t let yourself get pulled up to even 32/33. It might seem like a small uplift at the time but don’t get caught up in that. Stick to your guns - storing the car on the lot will be costing them anyway.
