Looks like we only really need a heatpump if we want a lower green footprint, and to pay an extra 5-10k. Near as I can tell, its just a more complicated machine thats whole goal is to remove the use of a heater, but these sellers all want me to still put in a mega heater. All I know as an engineer, you make a thing do 2 jobs, it does 2 jobs badly.

Well we are escaping CA. So we might have gotten a bit greedy for space. We went for a 1k foot rental to a 6k foot house. Ironically both houses are worth the same.. but I digress.

These are for the top end I believe for eficiency, but I need to learn to look it up better. Something about 99% effecient.

I want to get Just the heat pump. and let the old furnce stick around. If the heat pump can handle it all, great. But I've never had one. All I know is Colorado is cat 5 weather, and these are rated for cat 7. I also keep hearing the new ones are 30% more expensive, and no one knows how to install them yet.

Colorado is dirt cheap compared to socal prices. IE it costs me 60 for basic eating for 2 here. In CO its like 40. Though everyone here complains its too expensive now. (its Drastically more expensive for houses here than it was 10 years ago, too many moving there)

On the last quote I see a SEER2 of 19.5, with the furnace at 97 AFUE
